Looking at her here no one would ever expect how famous she'd grow to be in Sweden. So youthful, so innocent. Out of her 3 ESC participations this one is definitely my favourite.
I know she was in '83 and' 91 bit what year was her third entry
@@puZZy14 Her third entry was in 2006. She finished in the top 5.
How famous is she in Sweden? I have no idea. She isn't famous here in England.
to me I can already see she is a star here!
@@ajs41She is huge in Sweden. I would say she’s the number 1 singer. Sweden has had many musical exports but Carola was strangely not one of them. She remains a Swedish artist
Carola Haggquist finished in the top 5 a stunning 3 times. So when Johnny Logan is Mr. Songcontest, she really is Mrs. Songcontest !
Hans Vegt, but didn’t Katja Ebstein get top 3 on 3 different occasions.
Well Katja Ebstein is more successful than Carola.
@@athandog but her average placing is 2.6. But Carola's 3
@@ufuksnmez98 Linda Martin's average placing is 1,5. There are only four artists who have finished in top 2 twice, and they are Lys Assia, Linda Martin, Elisabeth Andreassen and Johnny Logan.
@@zalkkareita9017 yes they are successful than Katja.
I can't believe she had that voice at only 16 years of age...
Främling is surely one of the absolute best Eurovision songs ever!
I love 1983 contest, such a strong year...more than 10 songs were good enough to win!
Wonderful rendition! Very young and talented! I remember of course!!!
Ein Song, der sicherlich auch heute noch ein Hit sein würde!
One of my favourites from Sweden.
For me, this is a very catchy song just perfect for Eurovision Song Contest, and it has a great music quality. Carola is unique; my favorite artist at this song contest.
Best Eurovision Song Contest was in 1983.
What a voice!!!!!
yeaaah !
Almost 40 years and remembered in a karaoke scene of Netflix's Young Royals 2nd season.
It's still a very well known song in Sweden. Used often in Karaoke for that reason.
One of the best Eurovision Song ever❤
This officially marked the beginning of Sweden's golden age at Eurovision. Still going strong 40 years later.
We had a stint in the mid 80s of great ESC results. Then we lost the plot and our current Golden Age started 2010. I'm talking about results. Me personally love the early stuff better. This is a personal favourite.
@@nocturne7371
6 top 5 positions between 1983 and 1992, one of only three (non big 5) countries to never get relegated, only failed to qualify from the semis once. It's fair to say the golden age never ended.
Great voice and only 16 years old when this was broadcasted.
The song may have inspired one of ABBA's comeback songs, "Don't shut me down", especially the melody in the chorus. Maybe Framling was itself inspired by an ABBA song in the first place, but either way both songs are gems .
Yeah! They do sound similar, maybe someone can do a mashup because that would sound so cool
oh my god finally i found someone who thinks like me !
Fun fact: Until today nobody has ever won the ESC wearing a giraffe outfit.
that is a weird but fun fact
Definitely that would count. It would not be negotiable. And look how close she was!
SUPER RECORDING! It was from '83, when i was just 5 years oldI cannot belive it! Go Carola! Heja Carola!
impressive voice , so young , kisses from Switzerland ( Gstaad )
This nice song always brings me back wonderful memories...
My Winner of 1983
this woman is a big name in Swedish music, her latter participations in 1991 and 2006 also made her a Eurovision fan
that she even sings during the opening acts of Melodifestivalen
I love the Song....
SUPER !!!
No! They were wrong! This is the #1 song of the Contest! What a Sweet Lookin' girl who sang a great inspiring song! Easy #1 !!❤ Love it!
No this and israel deserved to win
@@윤기민-b5p They were all good and inspiring Artists!
But then came the ultimate and unique Pop Band , ABBA !❤
They were the Best of the Best! ABBA's music is timeless and well liked and appreciated for decades... Vive ABBA !❤
I think Ofra Haza with Israel was the best
There are things that can't be brought back. The live orchestra is among that things.
That's bullshit. All music can be played live if the band/orchestra is put together the right way. Check out Mahmoods performance of "Soldi" from the 2019 Sanremo festival. 100 % live orchestra - and sounds 100 % modern.facebook.com/watch/?v=875710892777218
@@escLIVEmusic1 Which is fair, but you've never answered the question of how much an orchestra would take out of the budget, how they would learn over forty songs, and how much it would add to rehearsal time in addition to working out the choreography and technical elements of every song. Or where they'd be, since it would probably take a chunk out of the already-limited venue space unless you put them in another building or something.
I mean, Rendez-vous, I'm Never Giving Up, Främling or Hi, Play-back or Bem Bom, Hajde da ludujemo... If only we had this orchestra quality allowed for the new years... imagine Belgium or Portugal new entries with orchestra, it would be such a hit.
@@escLIVEmusic1 But no orchestra matches this one. The sound has such a lovely punch to it. The live version of this is proper "dansband" in places. I love it.
@@escLIVEmusic1 No orchestra or music today can touch 80s Live music compared today everything bullshit technology
brilliant
The winner!
Happy 40;th to FRÄMLING!
I always return
Maybe the one and last time that Sweden dared to sing in Swedish. Nice entry, one of the best of the 1983 ESC and for me the best of her 3 esc prformances
Way way better than her entry from 1991
I agree!
I remember my heart skipping a beat when I saw this live and her microphone didn't work during the start of the song. They fixed it really quick, but still...
I am always surprised by the mic misfunction in the first second of the performance. I do not believe it cost her the first place, though, as the same think happened to Sandy Shaw back in 1967.
There were also technical issues when she gave a winning performance in 1991. Bad luck but ultimately she won so it didn't matter that much. 1 point more for Amina, though, and that would be a different story.
My personal Top 3:
1. My winner 🥇: Ami Aspelund- Fantasiaa 🇫🇮
2. My second place 🥈: Carola Häggkvist-Främling 🇸🇪
3. My third place 🥉: Per Lucia 🇮🇹
The micrphone didn't work at the beginning
but the Show must go on :))
@@rolandbendig0815 so true !
the pleasures of " live " programs !!
True, she never lets that stop her though, in 1991 the audio also crashed during her performance but you don't even notice, she always goes on like an absolute boss
Carola was only 16, almost 17 here :3
What a beauty!!
No
🥰
How come this is an NDR broadcast with Wogan commentary from the BBC in the UK?
Although I note this switches to stereo when the song starts - is it a mix of two feeds?
Always impressed by the sound on the 1983 show. I don't know what they did but it has a beautiful punch and warmth to it.
James Martin On the BBC broadcast, Sir Terry talks across the start of the song by announcing its title on the opening notes, so I’m assuming it cuts to the NDR rebroadcasting of the contest some years later, hence the better quality (ARD was the producer of Eurovision that year). The same thing happens with the Sweet Dreams clip as Sir Terry erroneously says “the UK has won the contest four times, an honour we share with France and Luxembourg”. France had actually won five times. Luxembourg chalked up its fifth win that night, ironically.
@@whyayetv and we'd have to wait to 1997 for our next win, after coming second in 88, 89, 92 and 93...
❤
You are the best!
I just keep coming back to questions about the Giraffe shirt
Should have easily won that year
She won a few years later so that's good I guess
Not really. Israel and Luxembourg were better. She shouldn't have won in 1991 either.
Israel was way better then Sweden btw I like this song my third, Israel my winner
@@ponyclub3198 This is true, but France that year gave me the willies. betnod.com/threads/eurovision-song-contest-2016.7949/page-6

Song actually starts at 0:43. Yeah. The host in '83 was insufferable 😂
Using 3 languages was insufferable.
And it got even worse it the voting phase when nobody could differentiate deux, dix and douze.
@@ponyclub3198 I can't imagine sitting through the voting, sounds like torture 😂
@@casperrabbit7254
Well my country came second, so it's even more frustrating to me.
However, not the worst Eurovision of the 80s, and definitely not best either.
@@ponyclub3198 Greetings from the UK 😄
And aye 1986 was worse imo, so many forgettable songs
@@casperrabbit7254
Greetings from the Holyland:)
To me 88 was best and BBC production of 98 was among the best of all times.
When are you coming back to the top 10, that's the question :)
She won it in 1991 with Fangad av en stormwind
Swedish and Finnish backround singers looked exactly the same in -83
Carola was only 17 years old here !!
She was 16
16!
Jeg mener stadig ,at USA & EU musik konkurrence kunne være hyggeligt Når alt kommer til alt er vi alligevel en stor familie.
Maybe back in those days, but today definitely not
En stor familie. Jeg får ikke en krone for min kunst.
is that the same introducer for the 1967 Eurovision! she sounds exactly the same! is it her!?
Nah different people. The 1967 presenter is austrian.
Incredible how very old-fashioned a teenager's hair-do was in those days! 😁
It wasn't old-fashioned in 1983... it was very much in fashion back then
Interesting point of view.
Yeah, just like any modern and fashionable haircut today, will look very oldfashioned in like 40 years from now, in 2060.
What?... 2:52, she did not sing into the michrophone, whose voice came out?
A backing singer taking her moment, I’d figure
And also the woman who wrote the lyrics. Monica Forsberg
Eigentlich ein ganz gutes ESC Jahr, aber für mich mit der absolut falschen Siegerin. Die absolute Nr 1 war füŕ mich Ofra Haza, keine andere reichte alleine an das Charisma dieser Israelin heran.
Her cousin Sandra Kim won three years later..
Wait theyre cousins?

What a silly song
yes , indeed !
I mean, I guess it sounds silly now, but she was pretty much a kid at the time and the song fit her age :"
