I love this!! We once did this for an elder cat. We cut the entrance really low so she could easily get in...she also would stand straight up and not squat for peeing cuz it was too hard... the vet did give her medicine but she still just stood up. The high sides were perfect and kept the pee in the box!
Warming up the plastic is a great idea! I was trying to think of a good way to make the door, and this is awesome! Thanks!! 😊
Make it less messy and use a large litter box, placing it at the end furthest away from the entrance- this allows minimal scattering of litter usually kicked out from the entrance hole.
Just make sure your plastic bin is large enough to accommodate the litter pan but able to keep a good distance from the entrance.
And cleaning is easier bc the litter box itself is much less bulky
I also use the xtra large disposable litter box liners.

I was literally thinking about making this same thing for the simple fact my cat's sling litter all over the floor when they cover because store litter box doesn't have high sides. This just verified my idea 😂
