    Good video. More people need to watch this. I've run 5-6K converters on the street for 20 years. So many people think you will cook your transmission. They don't understand that at part throttle cruise they don't slip that much.

      Im really thinking of this i have an rb26 so 4k+ is needed atleast
      Any recommendations you’ve seen true it needs a lot of cooling

      @@mexicoracing691 No. For normal driving it doesn't generate much heat. I have a small single loop cooler on my transmission in addition to the little cooler in the radiator. My external cooler is one loop measuring 24", that's it. I don't run a huge RV style trans cooler. Not needed.

    How is it for stop and go on hills? Will it go straight to lock? Or ride the converter up it, but at a higher rpm?

    • @bowhite1293
      @bowhite1293  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Like any other stall converter. The more you load it the higher it will stall. I'll be driving it on a 1500 mile trip next month.

    How does gear ration and weight affect the stall converter? More weight higher gear lowers or higher stall?

    • @bowhite1293
      @bowhite1293  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In general the stall converter is load sensitive meaning the more load you apply to the converter the higher it will stall. The more power applied or the heavier the car or both will raise stall speed. Gears will also change stall speed. Usually a 3.08 gear will load the converter more than a 4.10 gear.

      Drag racing. You want your converter to flash stall 100-200rpm higher than where you make your peak torque to put you immediately into the power band. My 7.1 liter in my s10 makes peak torque right at 5,000rpm and I have a 5,200 stall converter in it.

    What does a stall converter do

    • @tomboy1875
      @tomboy1875 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Typically let’s you rev higher rpm’s before it locks up if I’m not mistaken or that’s just the jist of how it works. Therefore creating a mean hole shot and/or keeping the rpm’s up between shifts.

    • @nashvilleoutlaw
      @nashvilleoutlaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Put 2 box fans together and only plug one in. Now turn one on (engine) and the air from one turns the dead fan (transmission). A stall works the same way but uses fluid instead of air. The tighter the tolerance between the fans, the higher the engine has to spin to turn the transmission and tires. It acts as a clutch for an automatic transmission to disconnect the engines power from the drivetrain when not needed.
