    Funny you said that 1st. Put a 3500 in my brothers 1st hot rod. He thought the car would stall to 3500 like it's on a brake and then take off. Had to explain the same thing. I told him a loose sloppy converter is like having a clutch that's starting to slip and go out. Or shoving the clutch pedal in just enough to start slipping. In a N/A sb 3400# car you would probably have to bolt it to the ground to get 3500 w/o a brake. Now back to T/C dump valve studies for my car.

    I bought a stock torque converter 4.3 V6 for my Chevy van $75 with core Exchange without cords $150 me my self I don't a high stall torque converter it's always good to put in additional external oil cooler on your vehicle helps keep the oil cooler because rubber seals dry out with heat so if you want your transmission to last longer put on an exterior additional transmission oil cooler on your vehicle the man this video is right I'm a retired transmission mechanic another session you have to get all correct information before you can put in the right High stall torque converter in a car otherwise she will tear up your transmission the man this video is very knowledgeable about torque converters a friend had a Buick with a 6 cylinder motor in it and he wanted a high-performance High stall torque converter it would not run right I told him to put the stock torque converter back in and the vehicle ran fine apparently put in too high of stall torque converter in his vehicle always go to an expert that knows about high performance when doing high performance modifications on your vehicle

      I work on Nissan's and most of the time the torque converter will lock up as low as 18-20mph. So not much need for the converter to work, the CVT is making the range change. Also performance and CVT...with Nissan do not go very well together. From my experience.

    So an 1800 stall speed means the converter stops slipping at 1800rpm? So if i have a 454 idling at 500rpm, then giving gass and reving it to 1300rpm to accelerate, the converter will not lock up untill my engine reaches a speed where the cruise rpm is 1800?

    Is that why I've noticed Monster torque converters made for Diesel have an extremely low stall, even for 700R4? As long as a low stall isn't going to hurt my acceleration with a twin turbo setup, I'm fine with using a Diesel rated torque converter to swap in my 700R4, 6 lug is designed to hold up better than the stock 3 lug anyway. Are there any good online calculators to pick the right stall speed converter that's perfect for the setup?

    • @bigce
      @bigce 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who's running a 700r4 behind a diesel? Do not run a low stall diesel converter on a gas motor you will be disappointed.

    • @bigmurph1447
      @bigmurph1447 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On a diesel u have to watch on how low of stall you go with it will effect turbo spool up. If you tow with it I would go 200-400rpm lower than stock. If ur not towing I would go with a stock stall. Look a goerend for a converter

      fuck me now i had to know too.
      i think its those plastic tools they use to allign a clutch into a gearbox with the splines on them. "clutch allignment tool" or w/e

    • @joshdupont2209
      @joshdupont2209 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya they are clutch alignment tools for different engines. The clutch has splines (you can see the splines on those tools) and in the engine there is a piolet bearing that the tip of the tool goes into. You tighten up the pressure plate and remove the tool and the clutch is aligned

    • @marscruz
      @marscruz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rods hanging on the wall are Clutch Alignment Tools. They are used to center the clutch plate when you bolt on the pressure plate to the flywheel at the back of the engine. The center of the clutch plate is splined and the front nose of the tool is smaller and round to fit into the pilot bearing that sits in the center of the engine flywheel. These are used only when putting together clutches and manual transmissions.

    • @MidnightMechanic
      @MidnightMechanic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stock fluid couldn't handle it, even the converter and line pressures generated could blow something. Most dragsters use a full manual valve body and trans brake to keep driveline stress down, and still manage good launch times off the line. Hell, even the Demon uses an automatic.

      I am a retired transmission mechanic one of the most important things is to keep the transmission fluid cooler if you're doing racing or even if you're driving on the street put a big external oil cooler on vehicle this will keep the transmission cooler and your transmission will last a lot longer it is a torque converter that generates most of the heat in your transmission Shady your transmission as recommended by the manufacturer is best for passenger cars also doubt a sub shops are doing the flush system I don't recommend that especially when you have an old vehicle and the transmission has not been changed for a very long time for example we have a vehicle with a hundred fifty thousand miles or more and a person goes down to the mechanic shop and they want to watch the transmission this is not a good idea because the transmission is old the clutches are old trust me on this don't have the garage do a total flush on an old car I recommend change the oil as recommended by the dealership and a filter on your vehicle but do not do a chemical flush on your vehicle you can I do your coolant lines from your radiator and there is an intake line a output line you put new transmission oil in this way would you do a regular scheduled transmission fluid change are your vehicle with a filter if a vehicle has a lot of mileage on it it doesn't look like it's been changed very dirty or burnt fluid drain the oil pan put a new filter on it and fill it back up with fluid maintenance is the key to keeping your vehicle running for many years have a nice day sir
