- Turning A School Bus Into An AMAZING Tiny Home | Time Lapse From Start To Finish
This is the entire build all condensed down to 15 minutes. This is about 12 months of work, from when the bus was purchased until now.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!

Thank you!!
Seen better ones

This book is a great source of inspiration for anyone who wants to build high-quality tiny homes. Instead of settling for ordinary materials and designs, you can learn how to create structures that are durable and aesthetically pleasing. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxLum--iPp9YKZ09j1BMdHaBMLkrGfIbcm The book does not provide detailed engineering drawings, but it offers plenty of photos that illustrate the concepts and designs. The book assumes that you have some basic building skills, but it also provides a range of ideas that can suit different preferences and needs. I found this book very useful and informative, and I appreciate it greatly. Thank you for providing such a valuable content in these Shed Plans. It is remarkable! For long-term service, it seems like it is worth investing a bit more money. Ryan, you are very generous to share such extensive information with us at a very affordable price.
not sure how to respond to this.......
Holy Freaking Whopp. Finally after 40 years of searching for an excuse to go with a school bus and not a freaking RV that's made crappy. Sir, you have done it. The More Room problem. You might as well quit your day job and just build these as shells and sell them. You're a millionaire in two years and a probably have a long list of people in line. The only problem I see is the paint over the aluminum which was installed running down both sides. I would have polished those and watched many sunsets in its reflection. She's a true beautiful home. Congratulations, you earned it. Peace.
Thanks!! Yeah the shell was the easy part on this build. The only thing I would do different in the future is spray foam. Yeah I agree some things would look better polished. Maybe my next build will be a little more unique than this one. Again I appreciate the kind words! 😎
Absolutely agree, this is one of the best conversion in its class. I have ever seen. You did a man’s job, Sir. Hats off to you 🇬🇧 👍👍
Thank you so much!! Really appreciate that!
Using hockey pucks for solar panel spacers was my favorite. Great build.
Thanks! Yeah they were cheap and easy to use.
Dude you did an awesome job on your bus. Especially on the interior that was very well thought out. The mid entry was a great choice. Kudos to everyone involved.
Thanks!! Yeah a lot of thought and time went into the planning.
the raised roof but drop down ceiling is a great idea very clean look!
Thanks! Yeah gave me some room to run the central AC lines and some wires. The inside height is about 6'3" with the drop ceiling.
@@DanZalinsky You're the first TH-camr I've seen drop the ceiling like that. Excellent idea and excellent work overall.
@@bryans8656 Yeah. I havesnt seen any other drop ceiling in a skoolie. Also havent seen the loft or a ducted minisplit. Again I appreciate it!
@@DanZalinsky that ducted mini split is a great idea! I bet that with the foam insulation keeps it cool, I’ve owned a newer “2021 model” 40foot 5th wheel 2 roof units and if it wasn’t in the shade it wouldn’t keep up in the summer
love how you did the ceiling, never seen that on a skoolie.
Thanks!! Yeah took a decent amount of planning.
Started following today, your bus build is absolutely, Amazingly, beautiful. My travel prayers are with you. God Bless your journey. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!!
Job well done! I love the high-end finishes. 🎉
Thanks!!
You have a better built RV than you could ever buy. That will last for many yrs. RV's today are trash. The frames and carriage are not tough enough. A school bus is built tough to last for yrs and yrs. Great job Sir.
Thank you!! I really appreciate that
i'm so happy that the toilet and the shower is not in the same place. What a relief!
Yeah that was one thing I wanted. To separate the shower and bathroom
Very nice build. Love the cab-over bunk
Thanks!! Yes, very happy with the way that turned out.
Awesome renovation, I really like the cabinets and counters, they came out beautiful! Enjoy
Thank you so much! Appreciate that!
@@DanZalinsky your very welcome
A lot of hard work. Time consuming work. Butt, it paid off. Great job. Love this transformation.
Thank you very much. Appreciate that!
This kind of ingenuity is quite impressive. 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC JOB !!👍👍
Thanks!! Appreciate that!
Beautiful job!! I really like the layout, but the shower and seperate loo is my fave part! I hate when you have to stand way too close to the loo when trying to get clean! Lol! Really nice....and I am very jealous! 😂🤪
Thank you so much!! Yeah Im glad I separated them. The closet door also swings out to divide the shower area so you can change when you get out of the shower.
This build is clean! All the finishes are beautiful! Those counter tops blew me away! great job friend!
Thanks!! Yeah I’m happy with the way it turned out. I was hesitant on the countertops, but I’m glad I tried the resin out. A lot easier than I thought. 😎
Fantastic job, loved the smooth video. I loved everything you did, really terrific build. 😊
Thank you so much!
Awesome transformation 👏👏
Thank you very much!
Super sharp job.
Thank you so much!
Wow!! Very impressive! Love the outside color too!
Thanks!! Yeah im happy with the color too!
Absolutely an amazing build. Excellent job on those cabinets and countertop. Just stunning. The one flaw I will point out is where you placed the heat exchanger under the bus. That must be better protected from road spray and rocks from the wheels. Add sheet metal around it and a door with vent. Just a thought Mr. Fox
Thanks!! Yeah I plan on adding some extra protection around the unit so that it doesnt get damaged going down the road.
Job well done 👏🏾
Thank you!
fantastic, beautiful.
Thank You!
Love how your panels are straight on the roof raise. I see a lot of buse that have had a roof raise and the panels are wavy. Looks like crap.
Thank you! I made sure I got the appropriate gauge sheet metal panels. I bought 14g and 16g depending on where they were going on the bus.
Black matte with choice of tented windows. Change the lights. ❤
Wow. Amazing job on the bus build. That was a lot of work. It looks fantastic ❤Happy traveling.
Thank you very much
That's awesome. I love it!
Thank you so much!!
Love it what a beautiful job congratulations!!
Thank you!!
Great job!!
Thanks!!
Insane idea!
Wow... beautiful
Thank you! Appreciate that!
Omg so beautiful❤
Thank you appreciate that!
Awesome build
Appreciate it! Thank you!
Well done
Thank you!!
Incredible 👍🏾🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
This is a beautiful build 🥲😍
Thank you so much
That’s the best school bus conversion I’ve ever seen very professional job you could sell it, and certainly get all your investment and labor out of it.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
This video was awesome loved the finished product! Looks like alot of freaking work and creativity! Ive always wanted to do this but seems out of my skills. I really would love to have one of my own would be so cool to take on trips or just to have in general!
Thank you! Don't limit yourself. You are probably capable of more than you think.
Great job, but out of this 15 minute video, i would've liked to have seen more than 45 seconds of the completed interior (most of which was spent in the bathroom). From what I could see, it was awesome.
Thanks! Yeah I did lack a little with the finished bus. I do have a few tour videos that show the completed bus.
On your next build look at a Unico air conditioner and the Happijac bed lift system.
Wow that’s really amazing. I like the layout😮 very nice and clean
Thank you! Really appreciate that!
Its amz next level nyc job 😮
Thank you!!
perfect job bro!!!
Thanks!! Appreciate that!
Nice job!
Thanks!
Great job!
Thanks!!
I wish you the best with those welds.
Amazing….would love to build one
Thanks!!
I’d add couple springs to rear axle the way it’s sagging
Thanks. Yeah Ive been looking into that, with all the extra weight that was added in the conversion
Very cool!!
Thank you!
Amazing ❤
Thank you!
Wow 😳 amazing 😍 bro
Thank you!!
@@DanZalinsky it's ok bro carry on
Everyone remodels old buses and they look great, but is it possible to buy a brand new bus as a private citizen and covert it? Always wondered. 🤔
Yeah you could do that. Most new school buses go for over $100k. So to most people its not worth the price when they could just buy and RV for that.
This video took 1 month before viral ☺️..
Keep going and keep safe 🥰
Appreciate it!
Looks ok for a DIY job.
Вау, вау, вау.👍👍👍Какой молодец, очень красиво и качественно. Я в восторге, мои тебе аплодисменты 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Большое спасибо
Looks dope. Wish there was a living space though for guest!
There is the second full bed above the driver and passenger seat.
@@DanZalinsky oh my bad ! Nice work
Beautiful build. Your skills are amazing. Love the bathroom and shower. Are you selling or keeping? This could be your business if it isn't already. I love the attention to detail, very professional.
Thank you!! I plan on keeping it right now. And eventually buy some land to park it along with a few other skoolies to rent them out as tiny homes.
@@DanZalinskyExcellent idea, with the way rentals are now 👌🏽
So cool!!!
Thank you!!
Is it easier and cheaper to build your interior cabinets and such by hand, or do you recommend buying from furniture departments? I do buy things like faucets, lights, switches, sinks, toilets etc. But would love the best alternative for my interior furniture.
It’s probably easier and cheaper to buy cabinets. I wanted a specific style and stain for my bus. I also had unique spaces to fill with cabinets. That’s why I decided to build all my cabinets. Home Depot and Lowe’s usually have good deals on cabinets.
AWESOME
Thanks!!
Amazing build! Many awesome ideas here. I like the overhead loft area. I want to do that on mine but with a loft-net. How is the AC w/plenum working for you? Does it reach the front well on a hot day? May be the way to go vs 2 front/rear ACs on my build 👍🏼
Thanks Appreciate that. Yeah Im glad I did the loft above the front area. The AC reaches the front and there is a vent up top blowing into the loft. The drivers area gets hot but I ordered the semi truck window covers. On a hot day 90degrees, I had the AC on the second setting (out of 3 settings) and it kept the bus at 75degrees in the middle of the sun. Im happy with doing the ducted minisplit vs two units.
Dan Zalinsky has skills, no doubt about that.
thank you!! 😎
Magnifique 👍❤️🇫🇷
Awesome
Thanks!
looks really good. im worried the driving movement will crack the wall tiles.
Thanks! So far no issues. We used construction adhesive to attache them and a flexible grout.
Don't forget the verry important peace of safety equipment....
Put a C.B RADIO IN THE BUSS...
Ahhh yes I do need to add one!
WOW amazing, you make it looks so easy but I know building a bus RV is definitely not.
Thanks. Yeah some things were a little easier than others.
Muito bom !!!!
Thank you!
Waaoow !!
Wow! Great work and well thought project. I'm impressed by the transformation. How much did it cost in total? You can give a range, if you prefer.
Thanks!! Total was just around $35k
I for one didn't realise that you can just *Snip* and boom you have and H3 bus
Yeah people choose all different roof raise heights. Skoolie.com makes the hat channel supports that fit right in after you cut the bus.
Awesome build what was the total cost of materials?
th-cam.com/video/EqZ_c3cSf20/w-d-xo.html
I see you went the Vermont route with getting the title. I did the same thing but insurance has been a pain to figure out for sure! What path did you end up taking with that? I also love/hate the whole roof raise thing. I planned to do it, then decided against it as I'm not super tall. I hate how it looks but it's hard to argue with the added space and build options. But they seem to take even more issue with the roof raise, rooftop decks, and fireplaces with insurance. Anyway, awesome job, I know the work involved first hand!
Yeah it was a little tricky. I was able to get insurance through progressive. Im so happy I did the roof raise on the bus. It helps with having that extra space and the exterior height with the solar panels is only 11' 6". Thank you for all the kind words. It was a fun project

This is awesome! Love the self poured countertops! Not trying to be a troll cause I really liked this build but just curious if you had any concerns about tile work cracking from any rough roads or constant vibration from driving or worse turning into a ceramic shrapnel flying through the cab if you get in a bad wreck. Hopefully will never happen but just curious! Awesome job!
Thanks!! I was worried about the same thing with the tile. I used construction adhesive for the backsplash and they are smaller tiles so im not worried about them cracking. I also used flexible grout for them as well. An the bathroom floor is even smaller tile with the same flexible grout. Hopefully nothing happens in the future, but I dont think anything will
Definitivamente aunque mi esposa e hija dicen q yo se hacer todo, no llego a su talento quedó genial
день добрый. это успех! спасиБО
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow...ya dude you got skills ..nice build !
Thank you! Appreciate that!
Круто!
Could you tell us the cost of the build please? Ty great work!
Thanks! Here I go over all the expenses. th-cam.com/video/EqZ_c3cSf20/w-d-xo.html
Naw this is an RV at that point, it’s fantastic
Thank you!!
I would love to hire you guys for my build, I have a 24' 2012 u-haul mover. My total budget is $80,000, can you give this quality, beauty, luxury for that???
That seems like a nice project. We saved a lot of money on our build through Amazon warehouse deals and networking with people for RV parts for the bus. Also happy to have an amazing metal supply shop close to us in NJ. Thats a high budget. Im sure you can do a lot with that amount!
That's a great conversion and you're obviously very skilled. Cost wise, why not just buy a nice used motorhome?
Thank you! The motor homes are not as solid as a bus frame/chassis. Also I was able to customize the bus to my specific preferences. And i have a complete off grid electrical system included in the build.
Beautiful job . What was the name of that stain that you used .
The stain was called Dark Walnut. Two coats
How much weight goes back the bus in with these builds?
With everything in there it weighs just over 21k. I never had it weighed when it was empty.

Cleaning before placing something there and sanding of the old paint would have been better in my opinion though. Seal of the propane tank aor tied. Apparently they leak a little bit. If you have one
Before I sprayed it with the primer, I sanded the entire bus with scotch brite pads. And i havent had any issues with the propane tanks.
To the poster - I saw your bus on marketplace but I don't have a Facebook. Is there a way I can get in contact with you? I happen to be in Princeton and would love to talk about this amazing build!
Hey. Thanks yeah you can send me an email at dzalinsky@gmail.
Were there plans and drawings by you or did you find a floorplan and follow it?
Did have an initial idea. Some things got adjusted through the build. But overall the layout we planned.
Super b7ild
Thanks!!
I have a question, the cables you removed are not important for the operation of the bus.
Which cables are you referring to?
@@DanZalinsky those who are above the windows
Oh yeah most of them were for the school bus lights in the rear. I left the wires for the reverse lights, brake lights and running light.@@acostaedwin986
@@DanZalinsky thanks for answering my question! I have a similar project but I am going to build a food truck
Awesome! Good luck with the build
What was the total build cost (including bus etc.)?
$35k
What type of board is used to close the sides?
The interior, I used thin mdf board with wallpaper
How much did you spend to renovate? What was the budget ?
Spent $35k and the budget was $30k
Realy a nice buikd! But damn the kameraman! And wheres the livingspace!?
Thanks! Yeah footage is a little wonky lol. Full bed in the back, full bed in the loft and the futon folds out to a bed.
@@DanZalinsky i see, tanks!
Do you need a special license to drive your home on wheels? Or would you only need it if using it for commercial purposes?
No special license is needed. It is registered as a Motorhome
👍👍👍👍🌹🌹🎉🌸
