    My uncle John played this on his Saxophone to my aunt Tracy. They lived a spell in Ft. Lauderdale. I have some conspiracy theories

      That's awesome, it's a great tune. Check out Manhattan Transfer's version! What conspiracies you talking about? lol

      Owen Adams Music The dates and instruments are wrong, but the basics is my uncle is Jaco and he gave up music for his wife

    Awesome playing man! I’m a metal bassist but hope to play to the level of jaco one day!

    • @OwenAdamsMusic
      @OwenAdamsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks dude, Jaco was the best. You better start practicing your monitor-speaker-backflips if you want to be like Jaco! :D Check out a group called "Talking Points," it's my buddy Dan Ryan's group, his bassist Alex Weber is a master of combining metal and jazz. Not my favorite style of music but all those guys have insane chops.

    Awsome job! Alot more to this song than I realized, I play my own much simpler version I have the chord chart. Do you teach lessons? I would love to learn the real way of playing it that sounded great, many parts sounded just like the record very cool

    • @OwenAdamsMusic
      @OwenAdamsMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude! I do teach lessons, hit me up on Skype! This tune is quite tough to try to nail those Jaco riffs in the left hand, and yeah Zawinul definitely does some interesting stuff with the chords.

    awesome playing!!!!! i love Weather Report. Zawinul was a genius! if you've never heard it, check out "Lord, Lord, Lord" from The Rise and Fall of the Third Stream.

      Will do, I'll check out all that stuff! Looks like you got some cool content on your channel as well! Thanks for the suggestions my friend, that Chick Corea stuff is right up my alley.

      thanks Owen!!!! I'm not that great of a musician but i enjoy it. a few others from Zawinul you may like "Country Preacher" and "Mercy, Mercy Mercy" when he was with Cannonball Adderley.

      @OwenAdamsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mindmusic1582 Thanks dude, Mercy is a great tune! I actually recorded an arrangement of that for my Based Piano series but I didn't like it so it never got uploaded lol

    Your musical idea is really far from Joe Zawinul's, but the improvisation part is interesting and creative.

      LOL thank you Bilbo! Actually the angle of my camera lens makes the hands look larger than they actually are... guys like Cory Henry can reach 10ths and 11ths easily, but not me :'(

      @@OwenAdamsMusic oh and what scales would you suggest for improv over the vamp at the beginning of the song...bass B...C ....D etc...I play a g blues over it but there must be more....

    • @OwenAdamsMusic
      @OwenAdamsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bilbobaggins4403 Yeah they definitely got skills! Collier cheated by letting Quincy Jones produce his stuff though LOL

    • @OwenAdamsMusic
      @OwenAdamsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bilbobaggins4403 I always associate Zawinul with the mixolydian mode, basically a major scale with a b7 (G major but with a F-natural). Also chromatic works nicely, from the 3rd up to the 6th can all be chromatic! For instance, you can start a lick in blues/pentatonic then shift into the chromatic stuff, then end it by returning to the blues scale.
      If you wanna get real outside the box, you can get the LH to hit chords on each bass note, for instance, Bm7, Cm7, Dm7, then match your RH scales to each chord. Takes a bit of practice to resolve it back to the G smoothly though! This works well if you use 4ths and sus chords as well
