“I just have to wonder, if every game ever made is at least one person’s favorite game of all time” could be the most positive thing anyone has ever said about video games.

These year-end MLiG videos are a highlight for me each December 31st. Thank you so much for being consistent with these and making them so fun to watch.
As a fun side note, it made me buy Danger of the Ooze, so thanks Try!

You guys produce some of the best content found on the internet, hands down. Really great stuff - thanks for your continued hard work. I don't know any people in my adult life that play games as passionately as I do, so watching you nerd out on games, old and new, is really fulfilling. I also really loved the MiSTer FPGA video. It was badly needed by the community and those that want to enter the community; it was no doubt a monumental task to produce, but it'll become one of those staple videos for years that people will come back to for reference and inspiration.

Coury it fills me with joy to see how much you enjoyed the Yakuza series this year, because I had the EXACT same thing happen to me with Yakuza 0. I played it for right around 10 hours, and with a heavy heart was texting people who'd recommended it to me to tell them that it might just not be for me. I felt like all I was doing was pressing X and reading text, not playing a game. Then instantaneously it clicked into place and I have since played every single game in the series including importing the then Japanese exclusive Ishin. I will never not pre-order a Yakuza game again in my life. I'd recommend hopping into 0 instead of 3, as it helped me develop an overall better appreciation for the character development going forward, but it always makes me so happy to see somebody getting into the Yakuza series. It's one of a kind. Happy New Year!

The Paprium maker somehow thought it would be a good idea to effectively glue a metal plate to the board with a really junky adhesive that did not work well in all temps so almost all carts folks received had a metal plate moving around within the cartridge. I removed the metal plate in mine when I received it and was immediately disappointed that anyone would think that is a good plan.

I'm one of those folks who loves good visual novels and I especially adore The House in Fata Morgana. Still, I'll be the first to admit the genre is absolutely not for everyone, your reaction is very understandable Coury 🙂
VNs do tend to be about a slow buildup that pays off incredibly by the end, Fata absolutely included in that. An initial slow pace is understandably a tough sell for many who may not be sold on the genre anyway.
If it's still in consideration, I do recommend continuing with Fata, it honestly probably is my favourite narrative in gaming and I think the hype is 100% deserved. Though of course, I absolutely understand if there's reluctance to return to it or if it still doesn't click with you after another try. Regardless, good on you for giving it a go and for going outside your comfort zone still 🙂
All that aside, great work as always guys, these videos are consistently an end of year highlight for me!

Me and a buddy of mine did something very similar to your 10 game list just last year. Slightly different rules. We picked 12 games from our backlogs that we've been meaning to play for years but never got around to. 12 because 1 a month sounded reasonable. We had a rule of max 2 games per console and no modern games. We are both long time collectors and thought this idea would give us incentive to dig into our backlogs. Im 44 and have accumulated over 3K physical games over the years. Needless to say, my backlog is enormous. And for as much gaming as I do, there's still a ton of greats I never completed. Some of the games from the list I tackled this year are Xenosaga, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Eternal Darkness, Phantasy Star Portable, etc. I look forward to hearing you guys talk about some of the games on your lists during the year on streams. There are some bangers on there. I work strange hours so I don't usually catch the streams live, but I watch each and every one of them the following week. You guys are the best, have a great 2023

I've been gaming since 1985 and the psvr2 has been the single most mind blowing gaming experience I've ever had, by far. I can't believe I have this amazing tech at home at my disposal anytime I want to play it. I think you had some interesting choices as far as games that you've tried (and didn't). I suggest playing Gran Turismo with a wheel and pedals (single handedly the greatest gaming experience I've ever had so far), Resident Evil Village, The Light Brigade, No Man's Sky, Tetris Connected, Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, Song in the Smoke, or Moss. All of these games are just simply amazing on the psvr2. Then, later this month I'm playing things like Right Before Your Eyes, TWD Saints & Sinners, And Resident Evil 4 (if the VR mode is ready, might wait on that one).. all in all, I've been blown away by this thing. So glad to be part of the VR community. So refreshing..

  • @StephenTheZ

As someone whose favorite game of all time is Dragon's Dogma, yeah the combat is part of the reason why. Gotta keep in mind that the dev team is a lot of the same people that brought us DMC3, 4, and 5 so there is just a stupid amount of depth in the combat, even if DD is a simpler game than DMC. But it has a lot of the same weird nuances that you only get from people who have made some of the best ever action games. Even after hundreds of hours of playing I can randomly watch a video and learn some new thing I had no idea was possible, it's just so dang great.
That said though I do enjoy more than just the combat. As time as gone on and open world games become more homogenized I greatly appreciate DD even more for not being a simple checklist open world style game which is the norm now (even freaking Elden Ring went this route.) A proper quest driven open world where every location has a unique purpose is so great even if it results in a smaller world. I will take a smaller and more focused open world game over a bloated one every day of the week.
Plus all that aside, DD has one of the most fun class mixing systems outside of Final Fantasy. Magick Archer is one of those things I never knew I loved but after DD I wished every game had one. Also half of what I just said applies to Monster Hunter as well. The appeal to a lot of these Capcom games is just the insane level of depth to their combat. Most other devs just don't compare so it's not surprise a lot of us are extremely fervent over these games.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

[Try4ce] However the fact that there are so many of us who don't quite "get it" shows that the depth is a bit hard to break through to. I really feel left out when people get so into Monster Hunter but I haven't quite figured it out yet to the point that it really gets its claws in me.

[Try4ce] I didn't like the voices too much at first but the badness kind of became part of the charm to me. I love some of the cheesy dubs of that era. Grandia's dub has so much heart in it I feel, even if it's "bad".

So try, with halo anniversary's new graphics. It's so much more than an aesthetic preference. They also affect gameplay heavily. Colours blend in more and makes enemies much harder to see. The models also don't match the hit boxes well. So there are high chances to hit rocks you can't see in the new graphics, but can see in the old graphics

You are great my dudes and i should do like you, play me some backlog games, my backlog is ridiculous, I will never have enough time in my lifespan to play through them all unless I stop getting more games and that will likely not happen 😅
Thanks for a great year and let's have a new great one 💕

The mention about Fata Morgana got me really interested in the game so it's something I'm going to have to check out, thanks, guys!

I have to say, this is a great show you guys put on, a retrospective of the previous year. Reaching back to unplayed sleeper hits discovering along the way GREAT titles and new titles. I love it!!! I have similar stories as well and love to hear you guys share yours so great! Thanks again!!!

LOOVE Hyper Light Drifter, can't wait to hear Try's opinion on this stylish indie game, and I've been curious about Policenauts so looking forward to seeing that in the next end of year video if it makes the cut.

Coury, you going to love Axelay. I've only just played it again after owning an import version back in 94' and wow this is more stunning than I remember it's right up there with best 16 bit games. Konami at its finest.

I tend to have that exact issue with trying to play ADV/VN games, especially if it's in handheld mode and I'm lying down on a couch or something. Trying to read all of that just makes me feel very sleepy, and start to doze off. I've never been much into reading books, with few exceptions... and yeah, it can be hard for me to focus as well.
One thing that has kinda helped me though, is actually streaming while I play such games. I play them while streaming to friends on Discord, and having some kind of social interaction as I'm going through all of that text, actually makes it easier for me to stay focused on what I'm playing. I probably wouldn't have beaten games like Snatcher or 999 if I didn't go that route, so I'm glad I did. If you haven't already, I would suggest giving streaming a try, the next time you feel like attempting something like The House in Fata Morgana.

Always enjoy seeing you guys do these videos! It gives me some great reminders of games I missed or set aside, that I need to go back and try.
Also, you both touched on a reason this year felt extra special to me. My kid is finally old enough to start gaming with me. The game we spent the most time with was Try's game of the year. We beat it on co-op mode from start to finish, and she asks to play more Kirby every night. And hearing Coury's adventures with the kids just gives good feelings, and I look forward to getting more and more of those experiences in the future.

I've been really busy with my guides, so I haven't really had the time to play the new releases. The one game I couldn't stop playing until I was finished was Cathedral. It's highly derivative - it's basically Battle Kid meets Metroid meets Shovel Knight - but what it does it does so well. If you enjoyed Battle Kid, you really shouldn't miss it.
