This man is saving my life one 8minute video/hour long lecture at a time. I'm learning more from him than I did in my 29 years of life living with or around my parents.
LaLabutterfly: I Don't know the circumstances of you and your parents of course, just hope you will get perspective and forgive them. Mr JBP is at WORK and is a prof of psychology. Maybe your parents are good at their jobs too, and if they would start lecturing on their job, maybe they would get more eloquent by doing that, and get feedback that stimulated. HAving ideas and talking about them is easier than practising and doing them every day, being at work is easier than being at home, in the sense that one gets some distance to ones inner stuff, distraction by workmates, and is freer to concentrate on tasks than when at home in it all, outer and inner things.I am sure Dr Peterson is not perfect and does mistakes with his family sometimes. He is an unusual one, but please try to be fair when you think of your parents and all that you may not know about them (yet?) But yes, he is inspiring and great. I just saw my mother being able to be nicer to others than to me, which has to do with a lot of pain, shame, memories, seeing herself, guilt, etc.And I myself write last to the ones most important, - because they are sio important to me tahat i want to write really well - they get no letter at all because I can't. They might get the wrong idea... - Love.
I'm sure your parents raised you right. Sometimes the little things are dismissed when you become bitter towards your parents, possibly subconsciously.
I found that I used to get to sleep around 10.... Then I discovered Jordan Peterson... Now I stay up all night watching... Jordan you are my distraction. Worth it

Maybe I have to do it while eliminating activities that make me less efficient (like bad habits). We have a saying where I live that you can't have the barrel full and the drunk wife.. so some less stupid stuff (but also some good stuff) and more things done. Let's see if it work
I wish there was a personal Jordan peterson for everyone on this planet. There are so many questions I have that you no doubt have the answers to but will refuse to give me on account of allowing me to figure them out by myself. We need people like you, not to provide answers, but provide us with the capability and reason to answer our own. Just like @LaLabutterfly said, you are saving my life one video at a time.
for the protein & fat rich breakfast i've taken to making baked bean smoothies if i'm lazy, lentil soups if i prepare them in advance if i want something warm otherwise a smoothie of avocado, banana and oats. a lot of the time i'll eat the avocado as is, cos i like it like that, and add fruits int the smoothie. almond milk if there's any in the house, otherwise water. pineapple or grapefruit juice and carrots and celery if i'm having heartburn troubles. and a spoonful of coconut oil before all of that, i don't like having it in the smoothies themselves.
I was unable to maintain focus and was lost in my own thoughts within 30 seconds... it took me an additional 2 min to realize I wasn't paying attention. This is when I understand the seriousness of my condition.
I feel that pain.. try to have less distraction while make a rule like (I give myself this time and then I do a break; than take more time and then some more) Clean all the environment and TV. Then start to focus on your task or meditate. You're not alone, let's do it🤟🤟
If anyone doubts any of this for whatever reason, I'll give you insight on my life. Reading was something I knew I should be doing but couldn't commit to. Partly because of the books I chose but largely due to sitting there and actually absorbing. I scheduled in my reading everyday and placed small reward systems for the time after or even during if I wanted a longer period of it. Before I was setting a 30 minute timer to read, after a few DAYS of scheduling it in properly and self reward I read for about 3.5 hours easily without stop ( that time did include processing the info, applying it to myself and reflecting with note taking ). Use the schedule to reward yourself. When your mind starts to realize that you reward yourself for good habits ( in your perspective ) it becomes a lot easier to do those things and you'll feel more inclined to!
I learned how to concentrate on reading, and found that I could only read about 45 seconds at a time for textbooks. I trained myself and increased my ability to read textbooks all the way up to 5 minutes at a time. I got all the way through university with only being able to read 5 minutes out of every 6.
Awsom. I graduated from high school with a second grade spelling level and not so much better reading level, I knew I was in trouble and i started reading the Bible, slowly and over a few years I'm at college level. Motivation to change.
Concentration is a muscle. I use an interval timer. Before starting a task I ask myself what the task is. I set the timer for 5 minutes. Every 5 minutes the timer goes off and I literally ask myself if i am doing the task I started or if I've been distracted. If the answer is YES, I keep going. If the answer is NO, I get back to the task. If I answer NO 3 times in a row, I reduce the timer by 1-2 minutes. If the answer is YES 3 times in a row I increase the time.
This must seem so simple for people who mastered it already and that is propably why we who do not do it habitually at this level oversee it. Thank you!

My best advice is spending 2-3 hours a day taking unfocused doodling sessions when you are getting started. It gives you a mental break, but also means you can use it as a way of figuring out if your routine is actually working. Ideally once you get bored of drafting up schedules and figuring out what works you can start to reduce those doodling sessions and converting that time into more productive energies. The other thing is while you're doing those doodling sessions, you could be writing down all the things you'd like to be doing. I often find I can have twice as much fun in half as much time if I figure out the timing of things I enjoy. I.e. instead of spending 3.5 hours watching hockey, I rig it up so I can watch last nights game in the morning. Instead of spending an 1.5 hours watching commercials and bobble head commentators, I fast forward through my taped game and just watch each of the 3 periods as my breaks. When you get organized you realize how much of your fun time is wasted on shit you hate.
Today my reading of the gospel according to John paused to chew on "making straight the path". I feel like making a schedule could fit in a sort of way ... I think that it generally means more like preparing yourself, though, of course. Of course changing the mindset from "to-do list tyranny" to "what do I want the day to look like" kind of fits from a certain point of view. See I stopped to chew on that part so maybe now everything looks like it belongs to that part. What tunneling of perception!
I would very much like to regulate my routine, but alas, right now I have to work in a job with like madly-flexible shifts, where for example, working hours in the span of just one week, are simply all over the place...
