I love that he didn’t apologize for crying. He just sat in his emotions because he knows they are ok and natural. One does not apologize for laughter because laughter is comfortable. Tears are uncomfortable, especially in front of others hence the “oh god, tears again”. But no apology. Apologizing for bringing discomfort to a situation through one’s emotions would imply that one’s emotions are less important than the emotions of those being apologized to. Watching that was personally profound. Bravo sir!

He should though, the last two years or so it's all he's been doing in almost every interview/talk. It doesn't really feel profound anyore after the 4th or 5th time you see him tear up in a dialog that is meant to become online content. This video literally starts out with him crying. Because he apparently carries all these deep and profound emotions relating to his experiences as the voice and saviour of so many repressed, hurt and damaged people. I mean I just saw a video of him today, where as he was "supressing" tears, was talking about how orthodox Jews called him "Rabbi". (Which seems a little far fetched, but it could be true) And this was such an honour that he couldn't keep it together talking about it at a much later and unrelated moment. I agree that you can feel emotional, that emotions can well up while reflecting on things or remembering stuff. And it's totally okay as a man to show that. And sure it's great if people don't apologise for crying, except that it's normal when you're talking to a stranger and not a close friend or loved one, especially when you're being recorded for the whole world to see. Dr Peterson has a right to his emotions, but it's getting weird and has started to feel manipulative and fake.
Jordan Peterson is carrying so much weight and trauma from all of the millions of people he has helped. It is so hard to hold in those emotions, and seeing Jordan trying so hard to hold the emotions in as he is speaking truly is hard. It makes me wonder sometimes if what we're seeing as you mentioned the weight and trauma from all the people he has helped, if that was something similar to what Robin Williams may have been feeling leading up to his tragic end. Not implying a similar fate is in store for Jordan Peterson, not at all, but was this a glimpse of what was possibly behind closed doors for Williams as well. Very raw interview, but very truthful. It's actually just knowing one thing - If you use pauses especially after someone saying something remarkable, even better content may follow. It's basically just a good bit of creativity and essentially, a great business strategy. All the good podcasters do it. Its most effectively used in therapy. If he was to ask any other successful tv presenter (which is what he is), the key to a good podcast, they would say 'use the power of silence. It's 101 for podcasting and he shows just that. I wouldn't make it all emotional and sensitive. This doesnt essentially show he is a good listener or that he is comfortable in silence, even if he may be. It's just that he's a good business man. It's important to look at it through this lens, and not through the lens you saw that with. Because it's the actual truth

Wow. I have never heard that before!!! Thankyou. Hundreds of thousands of men from my country of New Zealand went through horrors of 2 world wars. A tenth of the population went to Gallipoli and France in WW1. Monuments and names are everywhere you go. 6 million of my distant relations were murdered when Nazis ruled in Europe. I have studied all this intensely. It has all changed my life and I have learned a lot about human beings. But there are many survivors many stories and many pieces of footage I will never forget. I am saturated by it all. I think about these things very often. I kind of feel I have still done the right thing for me in spite of a sadness that will never really leave me.
I feel like Jordan's carrying the worlds burdens on his shoulder, such an intelligent yet complex man seemingly still battling his own demons of anxiety and maybe depression. Great podcast, insightful, emotional and fulfilling! Keep doing what you do J.P!
Aren't we all? A living breathing human being has to be battling some form of demons if they are attempting to live meaningfully. If this conversation was simply a head exercise, it would not have been half as inspiring. Dr. Peterson marries intellection and humanity in a way that is rare to come across in one's lifetime.
That’s what I really love about him. Everyone says “ oh well he clearly doesn’t take his own advice wasn’t he in rehab for drug addiction” it’s like he never said he was perfect and that it was easy for him to do these things. He’s human and he makes mistakes. That’s why I love him.

This man was under immense pressure with his breakthru on the internet what was meaningfull but also very though on him as he said in his awnser to the question 'how are you doing?'. His whife who he has a deep relation with and leans upon was diagnosed with cancer during this time. I guess my point is that there are things so tragic in live that they will knock you down regardless of how well you have set your live up.

I've watched hundreds of hours of JP over the last 7 or so years. This is the first time I've felt like he was in complete comfort talking. He wasn't under attack. He wasn't defending his views or position. This is sublime interviewing
his podcast with theo von I would say is the most comfortable he's been, as he was actually laughing multiple times. This was I guess a less superficial/more in depth podcast that allowed him to breath and brooch more serious topics while not feeling challenged.
I'm also lonely. Have been for some time. But I'm sort of at peace with this, now. In the past, being frustrated by loneliness led me into the clutches of some dark people. Be careful bud. And try to be at peace. I send you my sincerest best wishes.

A great quote. I'm a psychologist myself and although it's tempting to talk, it's best just to listen. If "we" begin drowning the patient or friend etc with what we believe is great suggestions/help we risk that they zone out/fall asleep/daydreaming etc. I have spent many hours listening to patients - and barely saying anything myself, and afterwards they thank me for listening and showing interest.

I have to say that Steven, you are a great interviewer and listener. The way, after you asked Jordan how he was doing, you allowed an extended silence (where 99% would have filled the space) to almost permit Jordan to contemplate and gather his thoughts before speaking, was powerful.
That was the turning point of the interview. I imagine Dr. Peterson rarely gets asked that question - about how he really feels - maybe not even from those closest to him because everyone that looks up to him believes he's a rock. But he's just a man.
It's a pretty invasive question to be asked on camera when your wife has cancer and you are coming back from brain damage. He knew he wasn't doing great and wanted to force some sentimental moment for views.

A local Minister once told me that w. relation to his role in society, people almost always forget that he is first a man. That some of the things that they confess thru sharing is really hard to carry.
He restored my faith in honesty. The importance of being honest with yourself and knowing the importance of standing with your principles. Amazingly intelligent, and well educated, so of coarse there are people that want to silence him.
And he proves time and time again every time he speaks, how wrong the media and left opinions are of him! He is literally the opposite of what you hear about him and that proves all the more why we should just listen and learn from him!
Eh, I don't agree with that. There's a lot of times where I've asked for advice or someone "told me what to do" unprompted and it was good info and I improved from it and I still felt accomplished because I still did the work and sometimes people just need guidance.

I am the same - even if it isnt completely relevant, i try to pick out what is relevant to me and add to my personal bank of knowledge and insight. I think Peterson is used to mostly interacting with the more extreme case of people - the ones who _need_ some sort of outside direction, but reject it like a brick wall rejects an egg.

That man gets so many questions, about this and that, and the one question he really wanted was an authentic “how are you doing?” That’s a powerful moment right there. The simple things that some people take for granted, like that question, meant a mile for him…
And that the interviewer could genuinely ask him how he was doing and not just for an answer for the sake of the interview. I think Jorden felt he was genuine. He’s a very talented.

As I sit here in tears, just letting the gravity of this conversation wash over my soul, I realize this is another great piece of the puzzle I am still trying to understand, let alone solve. What a wonderful piece. A true contribution to the human psyche. Thank you.
Sorry, my friend, but the only lesson you should take from this is that we're very easily emotionally manipulated and that Peterson knows exactly how to do so. (for instance by recording his messages, not when he's stable and clearheaded, but when he's all choked up and emotional himself. Or do you think this isn't a deliberate choice of his? Do you not know that these things are recorded in several (often _many)_ "takes," in between which he composes himself to get in that mood again, to then choose the most effective parts to be edited together to be uploaded? Jordan is such a genius and great man. When this video was taken he had just come out of a traumatic detox from pharmaceuticals and his wife had recovered from cancer. One thing I will take from this conversation and live with for the rest of my life is that I will live life doing things just to see what will happen. Expand your freaking world view goddammit! He's fooling everyone in the worst way imaginable knowing what his tribe is doing. When he says bear your cross, he means ball and chain yourself for the benefit of his tribe and their beast system. Then you go out into the world and find out they are trying to sterilize us and turn us into half-machine drones obeying every order dictated to us. If that's the future you like, well fine with me, but I'm going to fight him tooth and nail. You know why? I have self respect for one, but also because I value people more than things, ideas, and superficial gains. I love that he didn’t apologize for crying. He just sat in his emotions because he knows they are ok and natural. One does not apologize for laughter because laughter is comfortable. Tears are uncomfortable, especially in front of others hence the “oh god, tears again”. But no apology. Apologizing for bringing discomfort to a situation through one’s emotions would imply that one’s emotions are less important than the emotions of those being apologized to. He should though, the last two years or so it's all he's been doing in almost every interview/talk. It doesn't really feel profound anyore after the 4th or 5th time you see him tear up in a dialog that is meant to become online content.
This video literally starts out with him crying. Because he apparently carries all these deep and profound emotions relating to his experiences as the voice and saviour of so many repressed, hurt and damaged people. I mean I just saw a video of him today, where as he was "supressing" tears, was talking about how orthodox Jews called him "Rabbi". (Which seems a little far fetched, but it could be true) And this was such an honour that he couldn't keep it together talking about it at a much later and unrelated moment.
I agree that you can feel emotional, that emotions can well up while reflecting on things or remembering stuff. And it's totally okay as a man to show that. And sure it's great if people don't apologise for crying, except that it's normal when you're talking to a stranger and not a close friend or loved one, especially when you're being recorded for the whole world to see. Dr Peterson has a right to his emotions, but it's getting weird and has started to feel manipulative and fake.
Jordan Peterson is carrying so much weight and trauma from all of the millions of people he has helped. It is so hard to hold in those emotions, and seeing Jordan trying so hard to hold the emotions in as he is speaking truly is hard. It is hard to do, to be able to function properly with all of those emotions inside yourself. He is doing gods works. Thank you, Jordan Peterson.✊🏼❤️

It's actually just knowing one thing - If you use pauses especially after someone saying something remarkable, even better content may follow. It's basically just a good bit of creativity and essentially, a great business strategy. All the good podcasters do it. Its most effectively used in therapy. If he was to ask any other successful tv presenter (which is what he is), the key to a good podcast, they would say 'use the power of silence. It's 101 for podcasting and he shows just that. I wouldn't make it all emotional and sensitive. This doesnt essentially show he is a good listener or that he is comfortable in silence, even if he may be. It's just that he's a good business man. It's important to look at it through this lens, and not through the lens you saw that with. Because it's the actual truth

Aren't we all? A living breathing human being has to be battling some form of demons if they are attempting to live meaningfully. If this conversation was simply a head exercise, it would not have been half as inspiring. Dr. Peterson marries intellection and humanity in a way that is rare to come across in one's lifetime.
That’s what I really love about him. Everyone says “ oh well he clearly doesn’t take his own advice wasn’t he in rehab for drug addiction” it’s like he never said he was perfect and that it was easy for him to do these things. He’s human and he makes mistakes. That’s why I love him.

This man was under immense pressure with his breakthru on the internet what was meaningfull but also very though on him as he said in his awnser to the question 'how are you doing?'. I've watched hundreds of hours of JP over the last 7 or so years. This is the first time I've felt like he was in complete comfort talking. He wasn't under attack. He wasn't defending his views or position. This is sublime interviewing
his podcast with theo von I would say is the most comfortable he's been, as he was actually laughing multiple times. This was I guess a less superficial/more in depth podcast that allowed him to breath and brooch more serious topics while not feeling challenged.
His discussion with Camille Paglia seems to me to be his most comfortable. He was truly in his element

A great quote. I'm a psychologist myself and although it's tempting to talk, it's best just to listen. If "we" begin drowning the patient or friend etc with what we believe is great suggestions/help we risk that they zone out/fall asleep/daydreaming etc. I have spent many hours listening to patients - and barely saying anything myself, and afterwards they thank me for listening and showing interest.

Jordan Peterson’s neuronpathways branch out into endless connections and you can really see this in how he communicates. Anyone interviewing him knows that they have to just let him talk, and they will get so much more than what they could ever ask for. Steven did a great job!
That man gets so many questions, about this and that, and the one question he really wanted was an authentic “how are you doing?”
That’s a powerful moment right there. The simple things that some people take for granted, like that question, meant a mile for him…
And that the interviewer could genuinely ask him how he was doing and not just for an answer for the sake of the interview. I think Jorden felt he was genuine. He’s a very talented.
When you asked "How are you doing?" (57:36) and Jordan sat, for 10 seconds, contemplating his truth and answered, "Brilliantly and terribly." This guy is the definition of what it means to stand up for your truth with grace.

Sorry, my friend, but the only lesson you should take from this is that we're very easily emotionally manipulated and that Peterson knows exactly how to do so. (for instance by recording his messages, not when he's stable and clearheaded, but when he's all choked up and emotional himself. Or do you think this isn't a deliberate choice of his? Do you not know that these things are recorded in several (often _many)_ "takes," in between which he composes himself to get in that mood again, to then choose the most effective parts to be edited together to be uploaded?
Peterson is a psychology prof. by trade. And, just as _yawning_ is contagious, he knows that acting all emotional will have that effect on the viewers too. Jordan is such a genius and great man. When this video was taken he had just come out of a traumatic detox from pharmaceuticals and his wife had recovered from cancer. What a beautiful soul. I have such tender feelings for Mr. Peterson. I am the oldest sibling in my family of all younger brothers. In a world that continually tears down men (including my brothers), it is so wonderful to have Jordan Peterson as an example of passion, goodness, and wisdom. I find it certainly cannot be a mere coincidence that everytime I see this man sit down and share his knowledge with all of us that my mind goes to the leadership and guidance that we men owe to the generation of young men who will inherent the world we leave them with. I have self respect for one, but also because I value people more than things, ideas, and superficial gains. Admittedly the tears came from me in the last few minutes specially of this podcast I found it so profound. I realised in a moment that the kind person I have always tried to be was both distracted by the world in which I live with tech etc but also my truth, and kindness was marked by my experiences and the way in which life had treated me tainted the best parts of me.
