I come from the west but have had a real liking of buddhism for years, only recently i discovered jainism and its ahimsa teachings. What a proud legacy India has left the world.

Yes, plants also have life. And yes, in order to survive we have to eat something (even eating the lowest-being). But that's why Jainism teaches that the KARMA OUTFLOW should be greater than the Karma INFLOW. That's why Jain monks and Tirthankars (highest level of enlightened beings) also have to repent for killing plants so the karma can be erased. When net karma = 0, then only can the Soul attain Nirvana. If Soul has any bad karmas OR any good karmas, it can not attain Eternal Nirvana/Liberation. Good karmas only give good happy life with little suffering and bad karmas give only suffering life with very little pleasures. When Net Karmas = 0, which is possible by meditation and actions prescribed in the Jain doctrine of Karma, then only can the Soul attain Nirvana.

Sneha Vora but how can net karma be zero? The aftermath of any deed will be cumulated into the karma circle. So, if one does good he will be rewarded fairly and uf he does bad, he will be tried.. then, isn't the idea of net karma an utopian thought ?

For shravak we focus on gaining good karma.
For monks they focus on zero karma.
There is a complete and long process through which karma can be zero.
The jainism explain in very very detail how the karma can be zero . It is not possible to write everything here.
You know the main motive and teaching of all the ancient jain granth is to teach how karma can be zero.
Infact the main motive of jainism to teach a path for complete elimination of karma.
      Have a nice day☺

I am jain and after reading many ancient jain holy books I am telling you this is the most amazing religion.
And the best thing is there is no compulsion on anyone to do anything. We are advised to do anything based on our capacity.

I am sorry but facts about Jainism in the starting are not correct. Load Mahavira as rightly mentioned was 24th Thirthankara ...but Jainism is not just practiced only on his teachings ... we are Jain believe that there is no starting or the end. Yes the earth will end someday but it will come again and again and again as it has been done infinite times and will happen infinite time. What I mean to say is there was no starting of Jainism. However we have different "kaals" . And for this kaal our 1st Thirthankara load Rishabnath started Jainism.

In previous kaal We had other 24 Thirthankara ... And on and on..as we believe this is happening since infinity and will happen forever. There is no beginning and no end. However a kaal consist of particular No. Of thousand years then new kaal starts. As so on as on.

Jainism is the oldest religion in the world, based on the teachings of Ahimsa(Non-Violence) or reverence for all living beings. There in NO founder, There is NO creator ! The universe is eternal and the earth we live in , is just a small spec in comparison . Non-Violence, Truth, Celibacy, Non-Stealing, Non-Possessiveness are few of the main beliefs. The Jain cuisine is completely vegetarian and also excludes underground vegetables such as potato, garlic, onion etc, to prevent injuring small insects and microorganisms, and also to prevent the entire plant getting uprooted and killed. There are about 4 million Jains in the world. Their aim is to achieve liberation of the soul (becoming God themselves ) by not being born again in another body. Jains believe this can be achieved through a life devoted to non-violence,compassion and the rejection of possessions. It does NOT derive from Hinduism, Budhism or any other faiths. It’s always been there since time (forever). Beside the 24 Thirthankers , 608 souls achieve Moksh every 6 months. They are all Gods - They achieve eternal peace and can know the past ,present and future if they want to - but they have no desire to.

This ridiculous statement that "Hinduism is a way of life and not a religion" is why the Indian government after independence protected Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Jains but left our precious Devasthanas (Temples) wide open to government interference and looting which continues today. The salaries of temple purohits (priests) are lower than the machine gun wielding security guards sitting outside. Pathetic. It was the so-called scholar president Radhakrishnan who stated that Hinduism is a way of life, and this was echoed by Chief Justice Gajendragadkar. The truth is that every religion leads to a way of life. It is my prayer that Hindu temples and organizations will finally be freed from the vicious clasp of government. The ancient organized spiritual path of India was Jainism. Before Buddhism the Shraman culture was introduce by Jain monks. The idol worship was not present in early Jainism. This was included later by the influence of the Buddhist idol worship, which was existed in Mahayana & Bajrayana. The practice of Vedas was done by the Aryan Brahmins, those who carried these practices from central Asia. That's why we got the similarities in between Rigveda and Zoroastrian Avesta. Buddha period was existed in India for more than 2000 years from it's birth and once it was a globally popular religion, which was influenced by the atheist part of Vedas & Jainism. But later Buddhism distracted by it's followers from Hinayana Buddhism which was the real Buddha pantha. An atheist spiritual way was slowly changed into Polytheism because of society demands & by the monks. Later Hinduism was formed slowly by the Aryan Kings & Brahmins with the ending of Buddhism by continuing the practice of idols worship which was present in Jainism and Mahayana-Bajrayana Buddhism. That's why we can find the similarities in between Hindu deities and the deities of Jainism & Buddhism.

Sneha Vora i don't want to argue with you because i love Jainism but you should know that sanatana dharma has all detail about creation, sustain and destruction.Hindu cosmology , the universe is cyclically created and
destroyed.Deeply rooted in the texts of Hindu literature,
including the Vedas and the Puranas , is the belief time is
divided into four epochs or Yuga, of which we occupy the
final . In roughly 432,000 years, it is believed that the Avatar
Kalki , the final incarnation of Vishnu, will bring the end time
(i.e. a time of climax of world events).
Hindu cosmology also describes aspects of evolution ,
astronomy, and astrology. The Hindu timeline is considered by some to be the closest to
modern scientific timelines. It suggests that the Big Bang is
not the beginning of everything, but is just the start of a
present cycle preceded by an infinite number of universes and
to be followed by another infinite number of universes.

My favorite comparison for the odds of that is putting explosives randomly throughout a junkyard, setting them all off, and having the garbage land perfectly to create a high speed sports car with the engine running.
AKA, What's more likely? That somebody is out there who loves everyone enough to create a world for them to live in, or that nobody said anything, and the universe (and all the tiny little processes that happen within it) just happened?
As for evolution, if that were real, why do you have a brain? It takes a lot of energy, doesn't help you in a fight, and is very fragile. Why would you evolve that? It'd make much more sense for humans to have evolved some more defensive/offensive features.

Buddhism is diametrically opposite to Hinduism in every aspect with only one exception - Karma. The other thing common was that Buddha was born to a Hindu King.
Except these 2 aspects, Buddha questioned every other thing that Hinduism believed in & advocated. So to propagate falsely that Buddhism was only a branch of Hinduism is utter non sense & absolute falsehood.
Hinduism believes in a Creator-God. Buddha vehemently denied this. Buddha emphasized only the innate human nature & ability to avoid sufferings. His total focus was on man only.
Hinduism believes in rituals to ward off sufferings. Buddha never advocated rituals. He only enjoined his followers to do good & follow his 8 - fold path to come out of the birth & death cycle.
Buddha categorically denied caste as creation by an act of Lord Krishna. He emphatically denied & said that human beings are like waters of an ocean whose only taste is salty. All are born equal out of their mother's womb.
Till the advent of Buddha Hindus & in particular brahmins had been slaughtering animals during rituals & consumed meat. This changed after the decline of Hinduism.
To resurrect Hinduism it had adopted whatever Buddha advocated & assimilated all his teachings within itself. Thereafter Buddhism started declining in india. The decline was further expedited by Muslim invasion.
Buddha never believed in avatar of God as a human being as He himself repudiated the existence of creator - god as falsehood. As against this truth, Hindus still propagates a false notion that Buddha was indeed a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Like Buddhism Jainism too is an aetheist religion with some variations. Both Buddha & Mahaveera were contemporaries. Yet the latter was not considered equal to Lord Buddha by the people & Kings in their life time.

Jainism is the oldest religion dear. You should study properly before you create any religion based videos. Bharat Name comes from Bharat Chakravarti who lived billions of years ago and way long before Ramayan. Before to Bharat India was known as Nabhi Varsh who was the Grand father of Bharat Chakravarti. Even Rama was Jain and so does Buddha Originally belonged to Ikshvaku Dynasty. Rama answers to Bali when he was about to die that whole world including you and me and animals, mountain or sea and rest of everything belongs to Ikshvaku. Which was begun from Jainism. Vishnu is the father of 11th Tirthankar Shreyansnath. That proves Jainism is way older than Hindism.
