i was thinking the same thing
I thought he died
Yeah I agree, a lot of people are like “yeah I like it, 10/10”
Or like “this is trash, 6/10” lol when actually a 6 really is a decent critic score
it's insane how many people think 7-8 is an average score
@@willoverdoseonmusic yeah true like a 8/10 is actually fantastic. Thats pretty much the critic score of Dune Part 2. A movie that many people are calling a modern masterpiece, up there with LOTR or TDK. A 8/10.
@@DonovanGG__LOL; yes, the masterpieces, lord of the rings and the dark knight.
@@DonovanGG__don’t forget the only other three movies that exist: inception, wolf of wall street, and pulp fiction 🤯
@@DonovanGG__honestly I’d give dune like a 9.5 maybe a 10/10. That doesn’t mean I think it’s one of the best films in all of cinema, I just think for what it is it does it pretty much perfectly and I love watching it a lot.
As someone who has followed Fantano for a long time it's insane to think that there's canonically this many tens today.
Canonically was so unnecessary it made me laugh
Most of the 10s arent from reviews though
@@rldv634a canon review lmao

About the last song on Toxicity (Arto), it was originally a hidden track that played 15 minutes after Aerials but when the album was put on streaming services it was just added like it was part of the main tracklist, which it isnt.
Wow, I never knew that. I’m curious then why they include it on CD and vinyl copies
@@MichaelMan2000it’s on my vinyl copy of the album, maybe on CD it’s still hidden

As I'm sure some other commenters have probably told you KIDS SEE GHOSTS was a group artist project between Kanye West and Kid Cudi, who now very much hate each other. So sadly there will probably never be another Kids See Ghosts album.
I was gonna ask if that was a joke tbh. Like there’s no way he doesn’t actually recognize their voices (at least Kanye) is there?????

@@mintmango10 I mean, Kanye has kinda transcended hip hop at this point. He’s just super famous. But Smags said it was a joke in another comment. He just played it super straight
YOU WONT BELIEVE IT BUT CUDI AND KANYE ARE COOL WITH EACHOTHER AGAIN
Definitely aged well
One minor correction regarding LYSFLATH at 27:13
The album didnt come out on the first of january but actually in october. I presume you may have made this mistake from spotify, which gives many classic albums that the site doesnt know the date of the first of january as a generic fail safe. That is why so many albums from 15+ years ago are listed as coming out on new years day, even though, they didnt.
That’s very strange, they should just not specify the date
Graceland by Paul Simon should have been an honourable mention! It is easily a 10/10 album of the 80’s.
One of my all time favorites

Huge huge fan of your reviewing style, subscribed
One of my 10/10 albums from the 80s that should also get an honorable mention is Masayoshi Takanaka's Rainbow Goblins. Also his album Alone. Honestly like 1/5th of the albums he's ever made are perfect.
EDIT: Okay I'm also now finished with the video lol, good video! Agree with a lot of your takes, except I like Depeche Mode a lot more, but that's a personal thing, that synth style just warms me. Which is ironic since a lot of it is quite dark lol
same here I'm a depeche mode fan myself they were just as great as u2 as far as 80s bands
The rainbow goblins is so incredibly good!

Bro… the Violator ranking 😵😵😵really wish you had a better experience with this album. Easily one of my favorites from the 90s
THE perfect pop record. I genuinely think almost every song there is 10/10 shit, it's dark yet not too much to be unpleasant, it's got a fucking sensual vibe that's unmatched, top tier production (like top 5 best produced albums I've ever heard), singing is amazing, hooks are amazing... do I need to go on?
Violator is a prefect album that to me stills sounds incredible
For some reason Michael also gave a review of the deluxe edition of Violator. Fantano was talking about the original Violator which only has 9 songs. Personally I think it's near flawless synth pop. Personal Jesus is a bit of dud imo but the other 8 songs are fantastic.
@@Valley66 I do wonder if his rating would be different if he just listened to the base version that ended at clean
It's actually not that good. Pretty boring knowing the band is doing the same tune again and again for more than 30 years now. I'm amazed their trick is still working though.
Fantano has previously stated that Pink Flag is easily a 10. He has also done a classics review of Rain Dogs
he’s got loads more on his RYM (including Pink flag)
@@Splash136789 hes stated his RYM isnt accurate to his current thoughts and he doesn't update it.
This video was really well made and I enjoyed your criticism of these albums 👍

I think Violator is definitely a 10/10 album, by far my favourite synth-pop album.
World in My Eyes is my favourite from that album
Great video, its nice to see people's different oppinion, personally i would rank wu tang and toxicity higher.
And i will give that swans record another listen, the way u described it made me very curious about i again, maybe at the time i first heard it, it just wasnt my thing, or i didnt pay much attention idk.
Thx for making the video man, ur awesome! (Also sry about the broken english, im brazilian)
I'm glad to see To Be Kind at number one, fucking unbelievable album.
Well done, MichaelMan, even though there was no shout out to three of the greatest albums of the last century: Who’s Next, Synchronicity, and The Downward Spiral!
On master of puppets, my actual real middle name is “Orion.” My dad loved that track so much he named me after it
Fantano needs to do a full reaction to this video. Also, you should do more videos on music. Fantastic video!
Super Awesome video bro
Thanks
great vid man.
Great video dude
you look like teenage frank zappa
Worth noting, there are some albums he didn’t officially give a 10 but it was pretty implied. Albums like The Glow pt II and In Rainbows come to mind when you consider the way he talks about them.
Great video Frank Zappa!
Ok ok so basically calling Wu tang “inconsistent” is wild to me considering that every song has amazing parts, including the interludes, especially clan in da front. The chanting I always loved and thought it was extremely unique. The most valid part of the whole video through was you saying that i was the best song off of tpab. I also believe that so it’s nice to see someone else think the same way. Cool stuff.
I'm Japanese, so I have no idea what you're talking about, but these rankings are helpful.
Hi
this video deserves way more views
Hey so your least favorite track off of Violator is a track that was added to the tracklist in a 2006 remaster that shows up on the Spotify version, but the release in the 90's only had 9 songs and ended with Clean, and I can imagine that is the version he is saying is a 10 in his 90's video. I don't mind the extra tracks but usually I just like to listen to the original 9 song tracklist, and I wanted to let you know just so you're aware and incase it changes your opinion at least somewhat.
I probably should’ve just reviewed world in my eyes to clean. Not sure how much my opinion would change without the extra tracks, but I definitely prefer the album without em.
Can you do a video analyzing the Lift Me Up music video? Thanks, great vid
I think my honourable mention for the 70's is Crime of the Century by Supertramp. With the opener of school being a bolt of lightning to start an album, all the other songs are super catchy and unfortunately super relatable. I think my Favourite song on the album is probably "If everyone was listening" but "school" is also in conversation as well. I don't see many people talking about the record but incredibly enjoyable front to back.
Damn I listened to more of these than I thought
24:46 oh my, thank you for saying this
Fantano has 3 secret 10/10 albums if you're interested in maybe updating the list or just giving them a listen:
J Dilla - Donuts (Rated a Classic but it's really a 10 since he's mentioned it on podcasts and interviews that he thinks it's a perfect neo-soul record)
Lcd Soundsystem - This is Happening (Rated a Decent 9 but he ranked it above Kids See Ghosts in his best albums of the 2010s video)
Charli XCX - Charli (Rated a Decent 9 but he ranked it above Kids See Ghosts in his best albums of the 2010s video)
thats because ksg isnt a 10 anymore for him he said that
He’s got loads more on his RYM account
Also Anthony Fantano gave The Velvet Rope and Rhythm Nation 1814 a 10/10...
• He said Control is an A-Tier and way better than Michael Jackson's Thriller in his ranking of Pitchfork's Best Albums of the 80s, Janet Jackson could've had an S-Tier in Pitchfork's Top 10 if it was Rhythm Nation 1814...
• He ranked The Velvet Rope as an S-Tier in his ranking of Pitchfork's Best Albums of the 90s and did a classics review of it...
He also called The Postal Service album an 11/10 at some point
He also said who will cut our hair when we're gone by the unicorns is a 10 in a let's argue
The last 3 songs of Physical Graffiti are so great in my opinion... I thinhk is perfect
Black country woman is one of the best 12-bar blues ever. L take from Zappa jr over here.
You mention your list of top 10 songs ever and I would be really curious to see it or hear you talk about it
I feel that college dropout should have made the top 5, it changed hip hop as we know it and was a great introduction to one of the most influential divisive and creative artists in hip hop history
Great video. I really enjoyed it. I'm in my mid forties, and so I have been listening to albums for about 35 years. Out of interest I started to list all the albums I would give 5 stars to, or 10/10. I stopped listing albums when I got to well over 100. So picking just 5 from each decade seems an impossible task to me. For example, Bob Dylan had at least 5 albums that are 10/10 imo, in the sixties alone! Stuart
As by Stevieeee in the into already mwah plus u have good energy and style:3
it hurts to see zero pink floyd or Radiohead, a great honorable mention from the 90’s is definitely dummy by portishead
The only times Fantano talks about Pink Floyd is when he's saying Dark Side sucks and Animals is the best album they made.
I stand by Caligula being the better release compared to Sinner Get Ready. It's an album I've listened to many times all the way through but absolutely destroys me every time. It's so raw and I love it to bits. Obvious bias - five favorite albums from the 2010s are Caligula, Bottomless Pit, TPAB, Goths, and Pop 2.
Bruh how is Caligula better than Sinner Get Ready 😭
@@f4gsforpelethe albums feel too close in quality, or almost like a part 1 and 2 to a whole for me that I cant even disagree with anyone for preferring one or the other.

1:30 i love this comparison wtf

agree that Rain Dogs should have been among the 10s. To me it's the most obvious "best album of the decade" of any album from any decade
Never heard of Tom Waits before this video lmao 😂 I’m going to check him out
you definitely should, but you might not love it on first listen. I know I didn't. His voice and style can be pretty shocking at first, especially on his album from the 80s and later @@joaquin5929
@joaquin5929 how'd it go?
dont know if you know this by now but on Toxicity by system of a down, the final song is actually Aerials, Arto is a bonus song
I still included it since the song is on the CD and vinyl releases.
As someone who’s never watched Fantano, seeing that he ranked my favourite album of all time (London Calling) a ten is awesome
It's one of my favorite albums but there's like 2 songs I don't like so it's not quite a 10 for me.
The 10s I personally agree with are lift your skinny fists, the black saint and the sinner lady, the money store, to be kind and in the aeroplane over the sea.
And then 9s are to pimp a butterfly, sinner get ready and vespertine.
Surprised to see no radiohead, spiderland or the glow part 2

One of the main issues with MichaelMan2000's video is the lack of clear criteria for his rankings. He fails to provide specific reasons or standards for why he ranks certain albums above others. This leaves viewers wondering about the basis of his judgments, which is essential in a ranking video. In the realm of music criticism, it's crucial to strike a balance between subjectivity and objectivity. MichaelMan2000's rankings seem heavily skewed towards his personal preferences rather than objective musical qualities. While personal taste is valid, it should be supplemented with an analysis of the album's impact, innovation, and cultural relevance. It's evident that Anthony Fantano's 10/10 ratings have garnered a massive following, which speaks to the diversity of opinions within the music community. MichaelMan2000's video seems to dismiss this diversity, portraying his rankings as the ultimate truth. For a video that purports to rank albums critically, it falls short in providing substantial analysis of the albums in question. MichaelMan2000 could have delved deeper into the music, lyrics, production, and cultural context of each album, offering viewers a more informative and insightful perspective. Criticism should ideally maintain a constructive tone, fostering meaningful discussion. MichaelMan2000's video sometimes adopts a negative tone bordering on mockery, which can deter productive discourse. A more balanced approach would have been more conducive to healthy debate. I also would have like if the video was longer, and slightly less racist. Why is Public Enemy, Wu Tang Clan, and Mingus at the bottom?
GPT moment
@@MichaelMan2000is it really a chat gpt response lmaoo i didnt notice when i was reading it but when i read it back you might be right. How can you tell? Also i thought you described the music and why you liked it pretty well. Id like to see a video of you talking about your favorite artists and your personal favorite albums from them. Chat gpt is kinda right tho, music reviewing is rough and people have very very VERY strong opinions, so you do kinda have to throw that objective level of criticism into the review. But honestly sometimes i feel like fantano will be talking about something like its objective when really its personal preference, so i actually enjoyed you stating the difference between what your personal opinions were and the more objective parts about music. Cause like i said getting into music reviewing, especially talking about classic material, people get pretty fucking upset about that stuff lmao. So dont take it too hard fs
One of the main issues with ibrahimsyed6470's response is that it is a disinteresting argument and lacks supporting evidence. The response appears to be a collection of disjointed thoughts without a clear structure or logical progression. Additionally, ibrahimsyed6740 lacks proper citations to back up any claims he made about MichaelMan2000's video . Finally, the language used is often unclear or ambiguous, making it challenging for the reader to grasp the intended message which combined with the unformatted, disinteresting block of text culminating into a boring bland argument . In conclusion , ibrahimdyed6470's response to MichaelMan2000's video on Fantano reviews lacks the essential elements of a well-constructed and well-supported argument.
The main issue with nuclear4569's comment is their critique of ibrahimsyed6470's response to MichaelMan2000's video on Fantano reviews. While they validly point out the lack of supporting evidence, the absence of proper citations, and unclear language in ibrahimsyed6470's response, their comment itself suffers from its own issues. It appears to be overly critical without providing constructive feedback or specific examples from ibrahimsyed6470's response to substantiate their claims. Moreover, nuclear4569's comment lacks a clear structure and concise expression, making it difficult for the reader to grasp their intended message, which somewhat ironically mirrors their criticism of ibrahimsyed6470's response.
He provides clear reasons as to why he ranks WTC, Public Enemy, and Mingus the way he does. It doesn’t make sense to attribute his ratings to some kind of prejudice. You’re acting as if he didn’t call What’s Going On a perfect album and praise To Pimp a Butterfly. He also referenced other Hip-Hop records he would have preferred over Enter the 36.
