When it comes to 80's rap albums it can be kind of hard to review something as a classic. Paid in full would be hard to review being that it was only made for the surrounding city areas. If you're going to review something like that from the 80's L.L. Cool J's Walking With a Panther should also be thrown in the mix of reviews. By the way, I agree with Anthony Fantano on most of his scores for albums. Keep up the good work & keep the bar raised. 👍
You can hate on Fantano's takes, god knows I despise some of them, but you can't deny the professionalism in how well-spoken and clear he is when presenting his opinions
He always explains his perspective in a clear and concise manner that allows me to understand his feelings even if I wholly disagree with them. Same with the NFR boys. And that’s what I look for in any kind of discourse. Nobody should just expect to have 100% of their opinions validated by individuals. Maybe find ones that have general compatibility with your taste for the purpose of finding new stuff, but def don’t be expecting everybody to be a carbon copy of you cause then what’s even the point, ya feel?
I like how well behaved all of them are lol. Its like parents smiling and acting happy while friends visit, then yelling at each other as soon as they leave 😂
I love fantano for having HIS own opinions. He knows what he likes and rates consistently and according to that. While I disagree tons with him I think he is a better reviewer than most of these other guys who just follow the curve
Honestly that’s what attracts me to a music reviewer overall, i don’t have or want to agree with them most of the time, i just want to listen to someone give their perspective and stand by it. Ive never adapted my opinions on music from a music critic bc i cant pretend to like smthn i just dont, my brain isn’t wired like that with music.

Anthony is completely right about the receptions of Graduation and 808's, people thought Ye had sold out and when MBDTF dropped people were like HE'S RAPPING AGAIN YAY
Yeah, it’s funny to me to see this huge critical and popular turnaround on those albums, since they were pretty roundly disliked (or at least found inferior to TCD and LR by a significant distance) for a long time. To be frank, I’m not the biggest fan of Graduation myself but always liked it quite a bit, so it’s weird to find myself having moved from a defender of its merits to a critic of its faults in most convos I’ve been in on the album.

I think Get Rich or Die Tryin' is a fabulous album, and I was not a 50 fan back in the day. The Black Album is fantastic as well, but I don't think the greatness somehow makes GRoDT lesser. It's about what is the percentage of tracks on the album that are still enjoyable after the original run. At least half of GRoDT still gets play in my rotation, and so does The Black Album. Both are great.
I think that's more of a condemnation than anything and I agree. I grab the first couple tracks and a couple ending tracks and skip the middle. But people hold that album up as a classic; they act like it's a banger track-for-track and it's just not. If only half the tracks are good, we should start from the perspective of a 5 rather than a 10
I would say TRAPSOUL was a moment. Nothing revolutionary but it came at the right place at the right moment. When I see Fantano with music compared to this channel, I see the difference between some guys who listened to hip hop from parties or group gatherings, and then I see Fantano as someone who is obsessed with music and its artistry. I'm not saying all his opinions match mine, but I suppose I prefer hearing about things that have more personality than what's trendy. Fantano is the guy who got me interested in things that I wouldn't think about, as well as making me interested in making my own music
When did he give tcd a 10? I saw his kanye worst to best but he doesn’t give a number score. I know he put tcd at #1 but i would honestly be surprised if there was a video of him saying tcd is a 10

I like the dynamic between you guys, it's the same formula that I like from DEHH, anybody that enjoys this content needs to become familiar with DEHH if you aren't already.
I like Get Rich or Die Tryin' because 50 Cent didn't feel like he was faking his toughness whatsoever. For an era where gangsta/mafioso rap was about to leave, it slammed it hard and is the perfect sendoff to that era of music before Kanye West dropped The College Dropout.

Relapse has some of the best lyricism and production you’ll get from an Em record. Throw in the cinematic atmosphere and I think it’s an 8.5. The refill edition adds to that. The bloated nature of the album and lackluster content in some cases does bring it down but it still has plenty of substance. Friday night lights is the greatest mixtape of all time IMO. for real doe... Mos Def's chorus on Drunken Hot Girls definitely lived rent free in my head for years in my mid to late teens.
the only song on relapse em didn’t record sober was Beautiful…the rest of the album was recorded post rehab. you can hear it on his voice and he’s mentioned several times that after his OD he had to learn to rap again but to say this album was recorded when he was drugged out is simply wrong. he was sober
Lmao they just squeezed like 6 full impromptu reviews out of this man. N he was totally game and clear about what thought the whole time. I need at least 2 more videos like this
Hes covered swans before but id love to see a soundtracks for the blind classic review
Monster is a classic Future album and probably his best work . So Glad Anthony thinks its so great because hes known to be low on Future
He gave the wizard a 7
@@turboshazed7370What that mean exactly ?
@@AliFrankTheTankthe album, by future, the wzrd. Yeah, that album. He gave it a 7.
@@turboshazed7370other than that tho…

I love that there's respect on Relapse in retrospect.
Tyler the Creator said it was his biggest influence for his early dark albums
some of these arent in the video but he gave: tcd a 10, 808s a 7, graduation an 8 and late registration a 9 on rym.
Yet mbdtf is a 6 smh
When did he give tcd a 10? I saw his kanye worst to best but he doesn’t give a number score. I know he put tcd at #1 but i would honestly be surprised if there was a video of him saying tcd is a 10
@@spencerhinds2803 "rym" is rate your music

Once he said Dirt off your shoulder was levels above Get rich or die trying I knew they weren't gonna like that 😂😂
Hahah yeah that’s a hot take
Brought out Fantano's falsetto defending that one
I love y’all, but there’s no way you guys just said that Ja Rule isn’t melodic. Man was the hook king back in the day.
I’m happy Lou acknowledged the flow on Stay Wide Awake (second verse). One of the best flows probably ever.
dont really understand the graduation thing, in his worst to best he said kanye didnt get enough credit for the chris martin track now he says hes not crazy about it, and he also said it was his most dated album now he said its aged well
On Sight
opinions can change
that video was time ago
Opinions can change over time dawg lol
we need part 2 pleaseeeeeeeeeeee
Relapse is top 5 Eminem. So underrated
Really good video
Bro pre ordered the video
Fontana is 100% correct with Get Rich or Die Trying, and I’m a huge 50 fan. It’s a club album first.
They should do other genres in the channel
Frl
@@EwanSL like bruh can they ask him about linkin park or sum 🤦♂️
Yeah
I like the dynamic between you guys, it's the same formula that I like from DEHH, anybody that enjoys this content needs to become familiar with DEHH if you aren't already.
This is no joke one of the best video ideas I’ve ever seen
I like Get Rich or Die Tryin' because 50 Cent didn't feel like he was faking his toughness whatsoever. For an era where gangsta/mafioso rap was about to leave, it slammed it hard and is the perfect sendoff to that era of music before Kanye West dropped The College Dropout.
Relapse is probably my favorite Em album. I like every song
@@jigggy8560 yea My Mom is a banger. also, it isn't talked about enough, but refill literally has Forever on it - arguably the best collab song in hip hop.
I love these videos bc it’s my 2 fav music TH-camrs collabing and talking about interesting shit
We've been waiting for this lore forever
Hi Spectre
Hi @@andrezest

I enjoyed this video so much! I wish he was a permanent member of your podcast, he’s the prefect foil.
would love to hear his opinion on some old rock albums he's never gave a classic review to, especially more grunge
He classic reviewed in utero just to let you know, as well as stuff like in the court of the crimson king, close to the edge, abbey road, downward spiral, spiderland etc…
Only Fantano’s soft spoken nature can keep these two from yelling at each other.
Certainly others in the convo so top 5-10 at worst.
-I think “paid in full”
-Anyways, let’s do graduation
I’d like to see his review of grace by Jeff buckley

this video idea is great thank you,
i’ve been wondering what he gave to monster - future and hoped he appreciated it,
i was actually so happy he likes it, i thought that he probably didn’t listen to or didn’t really care about it

Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
anything 2Pac
anything Biggie
im curious if he thinks illmatic is a 10.

Surprised to hear Fantano give props to Monster
Relapse is my favorite album of all time so obviously they're not gonna like it as much as I do but I loved this discussion. Also Refill makes it even better IMO and shit like Buffalo Bill and Music Box are better than most if not all of the main album songs.
Refill has Forever which is just a banger and My Darling which is pretty creative and using a chainsaw starting for the beat is wild.
Kings for doing Pop Smoke. SFTAFTM is the most streamed album this decade, MTW is iconic af.
Gotta give props to Ant for Drunk and Hot Girls. I felt like that is an underrated song with him. It's honestly one of my favorite songs on the album. So thanks!!!
I meant Lou, sorry
I've never understood why people hate the song so much, obviously compared with the other songs it's the weakest on the album, but it's still one of my favourite from Ye.
As much as I love the fun shouting matches between Luc and Ant 😂 I also love these casual and chill conversations!!!
bro homecoming is so good😭😭😭 the coldplay hate is real
I liked watching Anthony fight the urge to point out that he's got a video ranking every Kanye album when you asked him where he'd rank Graduation in Kanye's discography
16:00 On songs like Beautiful, I think Eminem doesn’t get enough credit for being open about his depression. What hardcore rapper admits he is struggling so boldly in this way? Like today, people are way more open with their mental health and I think Eminem deserves a ton of credit on this album for that
3 am, Stay Wide Awake, My Mom, Insane, Déjà Vu, Same Song and Dance, and Underground are insanely dark songs.
i’d love to know tony’s thoughts on Voodoo (2000). such a good album and the track untitled is unbelievably good
masterpiece
How didnt you ask about 2001!? Great video gents
I think he should go through all the Eminem albums and do a normal review on them.
He did make an Eminem album tier list on his Fantano channel a little while back
@@LukeLastname103 I need a full on review lol

Relapse is 4, Revival last
Fantano: Why did you pick this album for the conversation, is it a personal favorite or something?
NFR Podcast: Yes
Fantano gave Flower Boy a strong 8, and he pretty easily picked Graduation over Flower Boy in an album bracket short video
he said graduation was "at least an 8" so that checks out
Dirt off your shoulders is def a couple cuts above anything on get rich or die trying. Crazy crazy crazy dope beat and flow
I wonder what fantano thinks about company flow and organized konfusion and labor days from aesop rock albums?🧐
We been waiting on that Friday night lights take🙏🏾
Glad to have seen it was at least a 7 according to Fantano.
