  • I'm planning to buy this very Suzuki Jimny. In this video I'm going to explain why, what other Jimny options I have and how I plan to modify whichever car I buy with some key upgrades including a supercharger.

Since I accidentaly (2 days ago) saw a video present the Jimny , since then I´´m wathcing so many videos on TH-cam about the JIMNY! It´s so amazing how people do the tuning, the car is so simply beautiful and versatile for tuning! Even without the Tuning, so beautiful and legendar! Suggestion: Try to make the ultimate Jimny in relation to what is the core essence of a classic Jimny.
Increase ride height a bit, add knobbies (but not oversized). Increase power to a level where the car becomes fun to hoon a bit in. Make the interior all about utility and that feel of lighthearted adventure. In the grand scheme, when planning to spend a few bucks anyways, I'd say try to go with a new model so you get the proper color, no prior mileage, and also not having to deal with the surface rust before you have the underbody treated. The only downside is the wait, but I reckon it's worth it, when the used market hasn't seen a significant price drop yet.
I have rented a few 90'ies and 80'ies Jimnys in Turkey to drive around for some weeks at a time (called either Samurai or Vitara there), and they are honestly the most fun cars I've ever had the pleasure of driving. They're slow and wonky, but always eager to go. The steering was awfully dead on center, the speedometer needle was flying back and forth between 20 and 50 mph no matter what my speed was, but that's the point! They're just so honest about their nature, the small details don't matter, you just want to have a fun time when you get into one of them. On road and off road feels equally youthfully spirited in these cars, it's less about driving them and more about just chucking them in the general direction of where you want to go, and the car will get you there somehow :D That's the beauty of the Jimny, and I think you should really try to capture this essence of the vehicle. Just do the right amount of work to it, but not too much. The simplicity is what makes the car :)

I own a Samurai and you spoke right out of my heart!

    • @theholty
      @theholty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Agreed, the main thing anyone should concentrate on with one of these is making it more fun without going OTT.
Just to add - The Vitara isn’t a jimny, it was a different and slightly bigger model in the Suzuki range :)

I live in a game reserve in South Africa where our roads are a challenge, and my little Jimny performs like a Superstar everytime !! I would definitely buy another Jimny. Tony B 3” lift is gonna be pretty unstable on such a small wheelbase though. It’s not like the ground clearance is poor, quite the opposite. I’d probably leave the ride height alone, or give it a very small lift but I’d likely focus more on the suspension itself.
Big +1 for a supercharger though. A turbo would be the ideal choice, but a supercharger is gonna be much easier to install and package

  • @Heretichound13
    @Heretichound13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My advice:
Pick yellow one. Mercedes G wagon 4x4 squared has the similiar color. They call it electric green or something.
    Add AMG look alike wheels.
Add supercharger, tune the exhaust (choices: muffler delete / valved muffler / straight pipe / a new exhaust)
Change the front grill to make it look like a merc. Merc did make a G wagon coupe and cabrio in the past. Doug Demuro has one.
They do these sort of things to Lada Niva in Russia and other old soviet countries. It looks like a baby G wagon too. You can find some videos on net for inspiration.
    Profit.

    Pros of buying new:
    - choice of colour
    - no rust under the car
    - very few miles on the counter
    Cons of buying new:
    - ~3000 pounds price premium
    - very long waiting list
    - they are going to stop selling the car soon due to regulations
    - warranty will be void the instant it is tuned
In my opinion you should buy this very car. Buying new just isn't worth the price and the wait. You won't have any benefit in warranty as supercharging will void it. The car can easily be wrapped. Ask yanni to make you a deal or even do it yourself if you have experience in that. 15000 miles really isn't that much. Adding to this is that you are not planning to daily drive this thing.
So generally the long wait and extra price just aren't worth it.

***RUST!!! Gen4 Jimny's RUST*** I sold my gen 4 Jimny in February 2020. I loved right up until it started to rust. The under body protection is woefully bad, so despite religiously washing mine underneath with a soft brush to remove any grit and road salt, rust started to bubble through after just 10 months of ownership. There are more than a couple of people who've experienced the same issues with their Jimny's in the facebook group. My advice, is ignore Suzuki UK's " Your warranty will be void" and get it Waxoiled / Dinitroled! And avoid an Ivory coloured one with the licence plate number ending "JZP"!!! Suzuki bought it back off me.... I don't know where it ended up.

And what You, I and everybody else experience as blinding at night is a bad projector or no projector at all. I see that all the times, people buy Xenon light and install it in their headlamp without projector as the bulb itself is cheap and with minor adjustments you can fit it in you headlight unit. On the other side, the projectors can cost 50+ euros for one projector. So if you want a good and quality projector in your headlight you need to spring 200 euros for the units only, add to that the labor to convert the back of the headlight to make room for the projectors and you are easily in 250-300 zone. A Xenon bulb is 15-20 euros. See why no one buys the projector?

For £20k plus another £5-8k in mods you mentioned, the Jimmy (New) seems like a fun project. My wife and I are both "Jeepers". We both go off-road often and wheel hard & heavy. From the beach to rock climbing in the mountains to burying them in the mud. It is just a blast. So, I would normally suggest a Jeep Wrangler. But since you are in the UK, a Jimmy is more practical. Example: I bought my wife's 2013 JKU for $34k USD. We have added $12k worth of mods. I bought my 2015 JKU pre-owned for $26k (a total steal) and I have put about $9k in mods on it and we are still not finished. A Jeep build is never done. the 5 door one might be Indian market only, after a quick google search. For a family, the jimny would likely be a hobby/work commute car. At least coworkers would be less likely to ask for rides.

Wasn't his, Times are rough? Nah considering hes owned a turbo'd Mx-5 for years. He likes cars, clearly a true car guy and likes what he likes. Plus as mentioned in the vid he can get cars from work to use as daily this is just off road.... Did you even watch the video 😂

Yellow and mod the life out of it.
I had a Jeep Wrangler TJ which i sold a couple of years ago. Probably the most fun car ive owned, and ive owned over 40!
I did a lift, big wheels, fitted leather seats from a GTR, exhaust etc..It was a beast and awesome fun.

Had my Jimny for 9 months now. I bought Chiffron Ivory because it hides mud well, and I liked the "safari" look of it but you might want to get white and then add a vinyl wrap because you will care less when you scratch it (white is cheaper).
Have taken mine some pretty gnarly places stock and had no issue with it. I wouldn't bother with the supercharger, it has a short wheelbase and bad aerodynamics so it will never make good use of that 200HP, and you will likely have to re-gear etc to take advantage of it. Would be a big job and bring the reliability of the engine into question, certainly not something you want for a car that is being driven into remote locations.
My advice in regards to mods would be diff breathers, sway bar disconnects and a winch + recovery points. This is because an increased wading depth and full articulation on those live axles will really make the Jimny shine. A good set of recovery items and maybe a chainsaw for the boot will be money better spent than mods for the car itself because the Jimny is already capable enough from the factory. The lift kit and bigger tires will certainly make it look cool and give you slightly better clearance but will sacrifice braking, stability and the effectiveness of traction control.
In regards to a rear diff lock I wouldn't bother unless you are climbing rocks. The electronic system is fine for mud and ruts etc. It lacks the predictability of a diff lock but a has a huge bonus which is that it is always active in 4-low, so you don't have to enable/disable it. And a diff lock will add extra weight.
My concern is that if you modify it so heavily that you turn it into something it isn't then you might end up with a lemon. I have made this mistake several times with motorcycles and it sucks.
