If the body was a few days old in a environment with lots of bacteria (eg, the toilet pipe), the body will normally swell because gas is a byproduct that bacterias produce. It makes sense that he could get in but the police couldn’t pull him out.

Looking at the layout, it seems a big portion of his body was under the dormitory (which would be warm) plus the environment was full of feces and moisture. Although most bacterias prefer room temperature and move at a slower rate in a cold environment, if there’s an abundance of them, I surmised that they would still continue degrading and producing gas.
Maybe it was a bet with friends that his friends denied having anything to do with. Maybe he got in the pipe thinking he was going to be rescued by these friends. His friends tried to get him out after a good laugh, but all they got out was his one shoe. Then they just left him there so they wouldn't get into trouble. His shoe was just thrown to the side at his time of abandonment. Drunk logic would be he will get out on his own.

This might be the most bizarre case I’ve ever heard about. My severe claustrophobia makes it difficult to even think about him being in that pipe without having a minor panic attack myself. Regardless of how he got in there, what a terrible way to die. 😢
My first thought went to a dare that his friends/ coworkers gave him on their night out. Obv didn’t end well, he got stuck, they panicked… and left him to die :(

He was a smart guy , if he was a creep he has to be a smart creep. I can’t imagine him going through that without an escape plan, let’s say his plan went as he wanted and the teacher was back to her room. What was he going to do after that? Just come out drenched in poop and go home? That’s just stupid he would ruin his hard earned good reputation . I think the police had their minds set on that theory so they ignored any evidence that could have contradicted that theory.

There are people out there sadly who have one thing on their mind. The process is never thought through. I agree the fear would most definitely stop me from attempting it, but not everyone else is the same.

I feel like the peeping tom theory makes the most sense. For many to say that he couldn't have contorted his body to get in the pipe doesn't make sense, cause how would he have gotten in there in the first place since he didn't have broken bones or bruises?

How could his coat be “folded neatly” whether he was put in or crawled in. Whatever the case, it is very bizarre to say the least.

Ppl keep thinking he's in a clear, sober mind but he probably wasn't. We all have stories of drunks and the stupid things they do so I wouldn't doubt it if he crawled in there himself.

Im almost certain that he was forced to climb into the sewer by someone with a gun to his head or under some other type of threat. If this was the case there would not be any signs of someone shoving his body into the sewage tank since he climbed in himself. It is also very convenient that it happened when the teacher was away, almost like her boyfriend maybe found out about him stalking her or them having some type of relationship and in a rage forced him to climb into the tank when he knew his girlfriend would not be home for a couple of days.

Yess! I think the bf chased him from the car. He lost a shoe on the way and kept running. Took off his other shoe to throw in after forcing him down there. The other shoe was there as a sign for her to "discover" his body and come off innocent.

What if they were sneaking around together and the boyfriend showed up unexpectedly so Naoyuki, in a panic, grabbed what he could (his jacket and one shoe) and ran to hide. With little time and thought he shoved into the septic tank. She may have known he went down there and assumed he would get out once they left. That could be why she was checking down there in the first place when she returned. But he got stuck and couldn't escape.

So, here’s the thing. A young man died (seems like in a rather absolutely horrible way) and bc of the circumstances there might have been lost evidence; and I’m definitely not going to be the one to even attempt to create theories in my head about how much of a bad person he could’ve been.
We have no evidence of him being a peeping tom and tons of testimony of him being a nice person (pls i’m not saying people can’t be deceiving). To me the PT theory makes no sense, he could’ve been forced to get in there.
But again, i’m just not about to try to damage someone’s name who can’t defend himself when there’s more proof of him being a great dude than proof of him being a ‘perv’

I understand that logically the peeping tom theory makes the most sense, but also it makes no sense at all?? If he wanted to peep, wouldn’t the better option be to put a camera down there instead of contorting himself through literal shit covered pipes? The autopsy just tells us he went in by himself, but I don’t think it was a voluntary decision. Maybe threatened, blackmailed, or drunken dares?

The shoe being somewhere else definitely points to foul play to me! He was attacked where the shoe was then disposed of in the tank. Perhaps forced to get into the pipe/tank.

What an intriguing case! To me the peeping tom theory doesn’t make sense. If he did this voluntarily, how/why would his other shoe be found somewhere outside some distance away from his car? I think he was more likely kidnapped by someone seeking revenge and forced to crawl in there, then left for dead. Now, who did this and what their motive is the biggest mystery.

I had a college mate who was an introvert, he wouldn’t strike a conversation with you unless you strike at first. Always a loner. He even shifted from sharing a flat with three other friends of him to stay alone. He failed some classes and no longer continued class with us but continued classes with a semester less than us.He doesn’t call his family much either.
Almost two years back, during winter he went to a Hill lake along with his friends. They were drinking a lot. Eventually everyone started leaving when it started to get cold. When they called the guy to leave, he refused. Since he’s always been detached from others, nobody didn’t care or bother to call him back and left him alone. He was too drunk and alone in cold winter. So after midnight he managed to stuff himself in a phone booth ( it wasn’t a narrow area but a place would be a place to stay indoor in the lake) area where he froze to death. His death was declared due to hypothermia.
I can’t help but remember this whole incident while hearing this case. Drunk and winter would make you not to function properly. Still in this case we lack lots of information so we can’t conclude anything. I can’t help but think of some similarities between my college mate’s tragic death to this case. RIP both of them.
Just a thought. Maybe the teacher put the shoe down the toilet as she knew he was there , but no one else would and she didn’t want his body to stay down there so putting the shoe down after ( as was found by his head which seems strange in itself) was her reason to “find him” as she noticed the shoe then went to check the tank ? Seems to me she had a lot more to do with it and the 4 days he was missing and she was away too can’t be a coincidence
I agree with this. I think that he was forced in there. He had to have gone in on his own with how he was positioned but I even for a peeper that's a strange choice to me..

Why would she need the shoe as a reason? You realize it was over his face and she could've simply said she saw his face which would likely be more visible. And no coincidence? You really think this theory makes more sense than the guy didn't know she was away and simply was a perv? People really like to make up crazy theories instead of believing the most logical and simple explanation. If it's hard to get in there it's even more likely he did this himself.

How could someone of her stature put a grown man in a pipe, if there is no sign of foul play, it wasn't her, no grown woman could shove the average size man into a pipe like that, if there was foul play it would have to be another man, not a woman

She had Schizophrenia and had gone off of her medication, if I remember correctly. That's why she was acting strange in the elevator as if she were playing hide and seek and talking to someone. There was an opening at the top of the tank with like a window/door type thing, and an employee closed it without checking inside first. It's believed that she had climbed in through that opening, and got trapped when it was closed and drowned. Netflix did a documentary on it not too long ago that had more details. The most chilling party of it for me really is how they only realized because hotel guests started complaining about the taste/colour of the water that was coming from the tank 😭

The peeping Tom story doesn’t make any sense to me because who would want to got peed on or pooped on while he was peeping. Also when the person squatted over the toilet and most likely would block out all the light, so how is he really going to see what what is there to peep at? And is that worth getting shitted on your head? He definitely got told to go in there or forced in there. I don’t think it was a coincidence It was a cold night and his jacket was taken off of him.

I wish this would have been somewhere that the police would have dug deeper into his background/finances. My mind immediately went to like Japanese mob hit. His shoe fell off because he was being forced to walk, he was forced to crawl into the pipe at gunpoint, and then tried to get out after the person/persons left. The place could have been picked so the body would be found but in a place that they knew the police would never look into it.

Since it’s a Japanese case, for someone being forced at gunpoint he would have had to be involved with very very bad people because guns are illegal here.

Nobody crawls into a toilet sewage area with a neatly folded coat in their arms. Something is definitely tied in here with the nuclear aspect of this in my opinion. Even if he was a perve and got himself stuck, he would have screamed the place down despite embarrassment out of the will to survive.

If he did go in the tank on his own accord, what was his plan for when he got out? Was he going to get in his car covered in 💩 and go to his house tracking 💩 everywhere? The smell? And if so why bring his jacket and shoe into the tank when it would make more sense to not get poo on as much clothing as possible. Idk but it is a messed up 🤢 way to go.
What if he was forced to get into it but he crawled in himself? Like the person was threatening to kill him if he didn’t get in and he felt he had a better chance of surviving by climbing in and eventually hoping to climb out or be saved by someone vs not complying.
The shoe near the car suggests to me he was running away from someone. Someone was chasing him. In desperation he climbed into the pipe to hide from the persuer. Or when caught up to - the persuer forced him to climb into the pipe. He folded the coat to help protect himself on the climb in.
Maybe he was trying to get into the house for some reason? Since the latrine access is outside he might of thought he could snake through the pipe and enter the home that way 'head first' especially if he knew she would be out of the home for a while.
That is what I think. He thought he could get inside from that toilet and didn't know how narrow it actually was.

I think he was hiding from someone..he probably came to the school area for some brief work or he was seen by someone while driving by (prolly his enemies ) and stopped by them..hence the keys in the car..and then maybe he had someone sort of disagreement with those ppl and probably some fight where he lost one of the shoe but then he managed to run away and tried to hide somewhere and maybe the sewer pipe was all he could find in that moment. He probably was successful in hiding from those ppl and later he tried to come out but couldn’t..hence the scratches. Now ppl must ask why the sewer pipe? He could have hid anywhere else ..for that..when the life is in danger you just have to go with whatever is available to save yourself. He prolly just saw the pipe and decided to go in.
Police should have looked more into his personal life and background..something like debt or connection to mob.
He prolly took out his coat just before entering to make it easier to fit in. He obviously had to take it with him..he couldn’t just leave it outside as it would risk him being found out so he took that with him..hence the folded coat on this chest
You mentioned he went drinking. Maybe he was super drunk or drugs that were off after he was stuck... Who did he go out with? Maybe a dare... and he got stuck. Or he freaked out because someone was coming and would find him in the property, and he freaked out and went into the pipe to hide but didn't think it through... such a sad way to die... poor guy

There was a story I recall from within the last decade of a guy climbing into the under part of a public park’s toilet. It had this large well like thing in the ground and he purposely climbed in to watch women use the toilet -and have them … on him. A woman going to sit saw him in there and screamed and got out of the washroom quickly.
Of course he was arrested.
So hearing that a guy shoved his way into a pipe to watch this teacher use the toilet is not surprising sadly.
And people need to stop asking, with a sober mind, why a drunk man would do ANYTHING.
I had a friend who got so drunk she climbed under her car to sleep while another friend and I kept trying to get her to get in the car in the backseat. I was tipsy and the other friend was sober as she was designated driver, so we couldn’t get why our normally sensible friend saw the dirty parking lot cement made a good bed and her under carriage of her car made a good blanket.
supposedly we’re talking about a man with experience drinking. sleeping on concrete is something but no matter how drunk i am, i would never do something above a certain level of danger. again, this wasn’t his first time drinking..

Crazy enough my brother also got so drunk he crawled under his truck and fell asleep. Nobody could pull him out because he’s a big dude & he was fighting being drug out. Saying to leave him alone. 😂 drunk people are not logical. Same brother also was brought home wasted by his friends one cold rainy night, put into bed, and next day I found him laying outside in nothing but his boxers on the back deck with the cold rain pouring on him.. just sleeping. He fought me trying to get him to come inside. 🥴🤷♀️ can’t make this stuff up lol

The mouth is stretchable to some limit, because of the elastic flesh in it.. the pipe is not stretchable by any measure.. so the comparison does not sit right

I would think you’d leave them in the car if you weren’t coming back because you didn’t need them anymore. But maybe it just depends on the kind of area you live in? I think the evidence points to him running away from his car in a hurry (hence the car keys being left and him loosing his shoe) and hiding in the septic tank taking his jacket off (so that he could fit) and taking his jacket with him so that the person chasing him won't find him with his jacket being left near the septic tank. Maybe he was tired or intoxicated and fell asleep while waiting for the person to leave and that's when he passed away... One question... What was the water levels in the tank? Was it covering his face?

Definitely think he was a peeping Tom. As for the shoe that was far away, I bet if they test it they find animal saliva. A dog probably found it just outside the “tank” and carried it away. That was my first instinct at least. The only other theory I can come up with is a sudden mental issue.

Maybe he was running to get away from someone. To get the someone off his trail he left a shoe behind then ran to the school but it was locked up. So to hide he crawled through the septic hole. In hopes someone(janitor,maintenance man,sewer pump guy,etc)would find him the next day but…

IMO he was ended. His involvement in the nuclear power station debate, his colleague's suicide, his sudden withdrawal from an investigation. In Japan, there are plenty of clubs where you can indulge your private fetishes. He wasn't an idiot and would have known he couldn't have got back out again. Murder disguised as an accident.

Did they do toxicology, because if he was drugged it would have been easier for someone to get him in without as much damage. I don't know i get that getting that it would have been easier for him to get in then them getting him out due to the swelling but it is a weird case.
Someone could have threatened him with a weapon (gun or knife), took him to the pipe and told him to get in and said he was going to steal his car, maybe said count to 100 then you can leave, but he obviously couldn't and he was dead before anyone heard him yell for help.
Guns aren't used often in Japan, they're illegal and cops don't even have them, if it was a knife I feel like there would be actual marks on the body

i really don’t believe that he got in the pipe willingly, as this length is definitely extreme and from what i know there’s been no other knowledge that he was a creep? i know it can be easy to say that he was hiding his real self, but who would go to this extent? i personally believe that somebody else did this, maybe government motivated as he could’ve discovered something he wasn’t meant to know. i know it’s a far stretch but i believe that the killer poisoned him beforehand so it’d be out of his system and put him in there almost in a way to frame him? this is just my opinion though. i’m so sorry for the family’s loss❤

Maybe he got into an altercation outside, in which he lost his one shoe and didn’t take his car keys. He could’ve tried to hide from this attacker by going into the tank? And then not being able to get out of it afterwards
I'm reaching but maybe, somehow, his shoes fell in the toilet by accident. Afterwards he tried to get the shoes out of the septic tank and he managed to get the first one out, then he washed the poop off in the river and afterwards tried to get the second one but failed terribly. Maybe he thought that this was a good idea because he was in a weird mental state. I really don't know. This case intrigued me for years!
This is reminding me of the Elisa Lam case. Personally I think Elisa was experiencing a psychotic break from being off her medication and was extremely paranoid so she hid in the water tank. I think something similar happened here. I would assume authorities looked into his mental health history buttt this was the 80s….so maybe they didn’t. And maybe his parents wouldn’t offer up that info out of embarrassment at the time

Honestly, my theory is that he was being chased. First of all, he was working in the nuclear industry in Japan which is always acquainted with either military or special forces. He lost a shoe when he was trying to get in his car. Then he reached her house to get some protection, in a hurry he forgot the car keys in his car. He knocked on the door and upon receiving no response and watching a person approach, he found the pipe the only option and had to squeeze himself in to save his life and then got stuck. For me, it's kind of weird how police didn't ask around about his work since one of his acquaintances actually ended his life a few weeks back? Wouldn't you want to know if the two cases are related? It just doesn't add up
People in Europe call the bathroom or stall the "toilet" so I thought that this was going to be about a body found in a bathroom stall, but nope. He was actually found IN THE TOILET.
It kinda sounds that maybe he was relaxing in the car and then either heard and saw something and tried to run and hide. Would make sense why he wouldn’t have coat and shoes on while leaving car, crabbing them in his hands while hurriedly leaving his car, dropping one shoe while running and then thinks of sewage tank as a good hiding place because while or adrenaline or rush our brains don’t think all the way trough (he didn’t realise he would get stuck) and he even might have called for help but if the teacher wasn’t there there was no one who could have heard him
I'm really surprised nothing was mentioned about these so called friends he told his parents he was going out to drink with..? Was this story ever verified? Did they find the friends he went out with and did he ever even go out with any friends to drink? If so, maybe he was super drunk and that's how he lost a shoe, stumbling on his way over to the sewage tank? Or maybe all the friends were drunk and it was a dare to get in? I just dont understand why nothing was ever mentioned again about the fact that he literally said he was meeting friends for drinks!!
