    Imo David did it. He was “the chosen one” by his unwell mother. He didn’t appear to have any motivation for his own life. He wanted to be in control of everything. He could easily then blame his mother’s mental illness and get all family insurance.

      The Lundy's lived around the corner from my house and I went to school with Amber. I was a year younger but i still remember the day i went to school and there were tv cameras everywhere. I walked past her teacher sitting outside her classroom bawling their eyes out because theyd just been told. We had an assembly to tell the students she had passed away. It was such a weird thing.

    As someone who has lived in Dunedin my entire life and can clearly remember this murder happening, I fully believe David did this. And if he did, his sentence was an absolute joke. 5 lives for barely more than a decade, WTAF. Our justice system sucks!

    • @rooder8827
      @rooder8827 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      I totally agree! I have always thought he did it and this solidified my thoughts. Free man and money gets to live his life with a wife and kid. Our justice system is a joke and this was a complete botched investigation. Why the heck did they burn the house down 2 weeks later. Mind blowing.

      Agreed. I'm from NZ too. He did it, so many things were just not right. Disgusting. And he's got a family now. Convinced a man he was innocent & he got him released. Major manipulator.

    It’s crazy the amount of people who believe in his innocence that he was eventually released and paid compensation! It really had people divided on whether he did it or not but it’s too circumstantial to not be him let’s be honest. Knowing that he’s out living a fairly cushy life is so weird, except he is a pretty distinct looking person so it’s not like he would be able to blend in. I hope wherever he is people give him side eye

      I remember laughing at people who thought he was innocent back in the 1990s and hitting them with facts and watching their mental gymnastics or try and deny them. Basically their argument usually boiled down to the fact that he wore glasses and looked like a nerd, this he didn’t seem like a familicidal killer, about the stupidest argument ever. Did meek old Robin look like one either?

  • @mandarinadreux9572
    @mandarinadreux9572 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +176

    Oh no. This woman sounds severly narcissistic and later psychotic. Hoarding is a trauma symptom. She obviously had some mental issues. There's a genetic aspect to narcissism so I wouldn't be surprised that David seems to have inherited it. Robin was probably a normal guy / possibly quite insecure which is why he was susceptible to be sucked into this kind of manipulative relationship. Their family life sounds like a nightmare for everyone involved.

    i actually interpreted the suicide note to be david apologizing to his mother for killing her, saying “you were the only one who deserved to stay.” while it doubles as a cover for him to pin his dad for the murders, i feel like there might have been a personal message behind it. maybe he only killed his mother so he could set up his dad and get away with murdering him/the rest of the family members?

And also to make himself appear like a good person to police to help him get away with it. Just my thoughts!

    Here's a point everyone seems to have missed: When David Bain was first charged with the murders he entered "no plea". You would think if he had not committed the murders (which he clearly did) HE MIGHT HAVE SAID SO.

    • @danieleyre8913
      @danieleyre8913 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup I remember telling people who thought he was innocent that back in the 1990s. They would usually say: “Oh he was still in shock” or “oh he thought the case against him was so out there”. Yeah right.
      Then I would tell them about the washing machine cycle, Stephen’s blood on his shorts, the bloody footprint, the fact Robin had a full bladder, that Robin’s body had clearly been moved, that there were no contact powder burns where the bullet entered Robins skull, and how it was almost impossible for Robin to have shot himself from that angle. Their mental gymnastics when faced with it all still makes me laugh remembering now. Their argument usually boiled down to: “oh he wears glasses and seems nerdy and like a nice guy”, about the weakest argument possible.

    the mother and father, wow, I do not even recognize them as they aged. They aged so poorly. Very odd family. "who was the most possessed" oh no, sounds like Lori Vallow Daybell.

    something about that message on the computer makes me believe that Margaret planned this out. “you are the only one who deserved to stay..” sounds like something margaret would say to david, since he was her favourite. It makes me think that Margaret must have gotten David to do all this and in the end NOT kill himself because she loved him the most. hence, the message on the computer. considering all the mental health issues these people had, it could be very much of a possibility :(

      I don't think he was very attached to his mum / cared if she lived or died. What I find interesting was when Bella mentioned that Maragret had the family members assessed by a psychologist and the psychologist attested David with worrying little empathy (aka psychopath). Also, often the ones who request assessments of their close ones, have great issues themselves and are just projecting. So personally, I think the mother had big issues as well as David, both on the BPD / NPD spectrum. Hoarding is also a telling symptom of severe early trauma. I think, David seized an opportunity to get rid of his family and "become free". And his family members dying for that was a sacrifice he was willing to make. Even the ones he didn't mind. Did in such a clumsy way, makes me think, he's either not very smart or the murders weren't premeditated a long time ahead.

    Was there ever any theories around the mother being possessed or having had voodoo placed on her from their time in PNG . I have read about traditional voodoo practices in PNG very interesting !

      If she was gullible and superstitious enough to believe in that stuff, then she could very well have convinced herself that she was able to “see” the devil. She clearly made her family’s life exceedingly stressful and disfunctional. Such a sad story.

    • @janetpendlebury6808
      @janetpendlebury6808 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      She was clearly mentally ill, maybe suffering from schizophrenia. She was a hoarder so had probably had some trauma in her early life as well. If her family had sought medical help for her years before then things might not have turned out like this.

    I am surprised that not more people are aghast at the very destructive role that Margaret has played in the Bain family.
    When i knew her in PNG her youngest son (Steven) was the same age as my eldest son. Margaret had a happy but forceful personality. She was very talkative and I remember her smiles. The family was "alternative" and Margaret was always exploring things. She told me that she mainly lived at night. Robert was very quiet, I remember him leading the singing at a campfire with his guitar. He did that very well. I also remember him giving Margaret a shoulder massage, when I was at their home. They both cared very much for their children.
    How sad to read what became of the family!
    I think that Margaret opened herself up to some strange forces when she was dabbling in traditional healing in PNG. When that happens there is only a downward spiral.
    Her life became more and more dysfunctional. She was very entitled and controlling, letting everyone else do the work. There was always conflict around her and she was rigid in her thinking. She had a favourite child (David) and Robin became her victim. Does this ring any bells? Robin stayed and kept on providing for the family, but he became a shell of a man, belittled, empty, depressed and destroyed.
    As many of you I have had to deal with a person similar to Margaret in my life. Get away, however hard it is, don't become like Robin!
