I thought the same thing, serial killers can evolve their technique and its not always cookie cutter. Maybe with those 2 other women that were strangled, he decided to do something different the next time, especially when you consider that Arlis (rest in peace) was strangled in addition to the ice pick. Maybe when the case blew up he got sketched and never struck again.

I think it's ridiculous that cops and others act like serial killers can't change anything about the way they do things. Most of them might stick to one pattern but it only takes one killer changing their style to clearly invalidate that assumption in future cases. Like, hit men are serial killers... They don't have to do the same thing every time. People kill for different reasons and it's kind of odd that cops and others so often want to push the narrative of like, psycho genius with mommy issues or whatever, who has to repeat his trauma on someone else. It's caused a lot of issues and people have gotten away with things, and innocent people have gone to prison because they seemed weird

I'd like to think that the memory of assaulting and killing Arlis haunted him every night and affected his sleep for 40+ years. When he was in the middle of having intimate relations with a woman, he saw Arlis' face. He might have been able to live a full, long life, but in terms of the 'quality' of life that he led, I'm willing to bet that it was terrible for him, as it should be. At least, I'd like to think that way.

Number one, you don't just look in the church and call out, you do a round before you lock up. Number two, no way he did a round at two. He WOULDVE SAW HER, especially if she was draped over the benches like that. Also, the fact that it was forced entry from the inside. Also why was her “tombstone” stolen? (Maybe because of media hype who knows) Why doesn’t his handprint match? Who did the semen belong to? Why was that guy who was playing the flute just.. standing there playing the flute? Was he the sandy blonde? Like- whew I don’t know it feels like they scraped the surface. Well to each question there’s a good answer.
      1. Why didn’t the handprint match? It’s a public church, the candle being handled by the flute player would make sense however let’s discuss the flute player in number 3.
      2. Why was her tombstone messed with? Many cases have stories where the tombstones are stolen simply because of the high profile murder.
      3. Dude playing flute? Well I mean that doesn’t necessarily mean he had anything to do with the case, he did go to campus and he did play the flute😂some people are kinky.
The story ends when they found the dna and that’s what makes cases like these solved. If he had simply assaulted her he most likely wouldn’t have committed suicide. He was a military man after all. He committed suicide because he was guilty of all crimes. Although everything might not be explained perfectly, he was the murderer.

My husband was horrified when her death hit the papers. It was sort of like "what kind of place is this, when you can get murdered in a church??" It was a weird coincidence. I felt so bad for her for she died in a horrible way. Her killer was caught with DNA in 2018 and committed suicide 1 month after my husband died. We didn't meet Arlys but, her life and death haunted myself and my husband.
