Too bad the great gus mahon isnt around anymore, he was the literal god of diy turbo dodge mods.. grainger valves, crushed and adjustable dsm bovs, hobs switches, volvo cold start injectors as a 5th injector for high boost.. the list goes on, the man was a legend! R.I.P. Thomas "gus" mahon.
Mean Mini is still around and faster than it ever was. The current owner has done Gus proud. I still have my OG Grainger "Gus" valve that I actually got from Gus not long before his unfortunate accident. In his honor I always use it for high boost control! RIP Gus.
What ring gap are you running on that? I'm swapping T2 rods T1 pistons into a TBI 2.5 shortblock this week. Planning on stage 5 SMEC, +40 injectors, 3 bar. 29 psi limit maybe a holset junkyard Turbo ported 2 piece and 782 head "home ported"
I am reminded of being in high school and following the updates on Donovan's Dodge Garage for the Caravan/Relentless/Acclaim updates. Man this brings me back. Awesome work Nick!
@Richard Holdener Thanks for taking an interest in our often overlooked FWD Mopars. The performance from these little cars and vans made them quite the sleepers back in the day, and yet they are still surprising a new generation now with what can be accomplished with modern electronics, engineering upgrades, and good tuning. Keep an eye out in our community for future surprises from Nick, and others!
I drive a 1993 Plymouth Voyager 5 speed minivan that I bought for $500... this van is indestructible and I love it so much... had to do a front brake pad change and the pads were $10 on RockAuto... the shipping cost more!
Freaking awesome! Crazy to think of mini van going 10 sec quarter mile times! I always thought when I was kid, seeing them new they where different. Kindo of like a big GLH!
This video just shows what I have always believed, with the right resources and ingenuity you can build anything. I thought about a Honda or Ecotec swapped Geo Metro.
My dad was very excited to show all of us that he was in the green screen photo. He said he though he was out of the way for all of the photos......or so he though. TFB rules!!
I loved those engines they are sooo tough and so easy to work on. Very easy to make real power for cheap.. I had on in high school. My Parents gave me there 1990 Plymouth Voyager turbo for my freshman year. They did not realize how bad I wanted it cause I was going to make a sleeper out of it and I did. Adding a Volvo 740 Turbo Inter-cooler to and a better turbo and I boost controller and a bonus injector. Pushed my power to 220 or so I did not want to break anything I just wanted a fun car that I could take my friends cruising and to spring break in. I loved that engine soooo smooth and so easy to work on I could stand in my engine bay.
I am the guy always asking Richard when he is going to start putting together and testing his 2.5 stuff hopefully this motivates his to get around to it before I end up just going to a SRT 4 motor but I can wait a little while. 🇺🇲
When I had a 2.5L Caravan... and a friend had a 2.2L Omni... I thought "Gee... I wonder what the drive-ability and fuel economy would be if the Omni had the 2.5, but with a set of performance counter-gears installed backwards?" Take that, and what you see here, and imagine...!😉

Gus was the reason for me starting my path to loving turbo’d anythings
He was a super great influence!
Anyone that was into turbos in the early 2000's was probably influenced by Gus!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and talk about the van.
Not sure If ill go 9's with full interior but low tens are definitely doable!!
I love your van! Nice work

Such a cool build, thanks for giving him a spotlight. Nice memorial in here for Gus Mahon and Mean Mini, too.
Been a fan of 4 bangers since my 73 Ford Pinto with a 2.0L , solid cam and a progressive 2bbl carb all factory .

are you saying yours was a 2.3? I prefered the 2.0 because it has a solid cam myself @@Itsdarooster

That's one hella fast brick ! Tip of the Hat to the owner. 👌🙂👍

What a great build. I love a fast minivan. FWD none the less!
Like other have said, modern tuning and E85 is magic for these turbo motors.
Those were always my favorite body style my boy had axels made for his Shelby shadow
Awesome video, Richard 👏🏼
O-man my local track..I'm like 5 mins from there...when were you there....seen the van before...killer build

NICK R RULES!!!
I used to know a old man that owned a printing company that built a few of these over the years. They always interested me.
This is real American hot rodding at its best.
Look into Kyle "boosted boy" and his honda powered rowdessy minivan
I'm familiar with Kyle and the BB-but he doesn't have a 8v 2.5l motor powering it
Pretty cool...i like the atv brakes on it😅

yes, that's what he is lacking, motivation!
That's amazing!
You should try letting the guy actually talk instead of interrupting him every time you ask a question. Dork.

Love it, be nice to see more effort on the air intake instead of just an open turbo sucking in unfiltered hot engine bay air.
he did have that-just not in the photo
What about the AWD caravans would they hold up
Not only did he run in the 10's, he did it in a pretty strong head wind!!
Why do I always immediately check marketplace after watching turbo caravan videos...lol
Cuz u r awesome
What does he use for axles.
$$$$$ makes things go fast!!
Im just a poor boy from a poor family.
I has no money.
@richard holdener. What is the cv axle on the west coast you recommend for these cars?
The Driveshaft Shop
First vehicle Flashback: 1989 Dodge Daytona CS 2.5 turbo manual... Wouldn't the van benefit from a CAI vs underhood air intake?
he did have a CAI set up that got damaged-it will be repaired
NOICE!
Just think how fast he could have gone without that headwind.
Is the van AWD or fwd
