Air leaking under Pressure Switch - Air Compressor Check Valves One Way Non Return

  • In the latest instalment of GT Air Projects we show you how to change and service a check valve / Non-return Valve or One way valve on an air compressor. If you have air leaking from underneath the pressure switch its likely a check valve issue.
    We also explain the basic principle of how the check valve works.

      i replaced mine already but i don't regret it becuz the old one was hard to read pressures. but now i need to replace the check valve. it's one of those things, replace the part and equipment has same problem as with the old defective part.

    I was trying to find a video like this and I didn’t know that the air coming out under the pressure switch had to do with the check valve on the opposite side of the compressor. Great work I’m glad I found this video, the other videos were showing me how awesome teflon tape was 🤦‍♀️. I know how to fix that type of leak 😂😂

    Hey thank you for this video! Sent me to the check valve to find paper debris preventing the valve to close. Turns out air filter fell apart and got caught in the check valve. Removed debris and now operates correctly. Thanks again!

    What a great video, very informative, I watched your video which explained how the NRV worked and it matched my symptoms completely, I pulled apart my NRV and found it has some fouling in it, cleaned and put back together, worked 100%
    Thank you for your video

    Great video and to the point(even the title)without the drag on I watch in most before even finding out if they are useful.
    This was very useful and the title of your video was the problem I had. You see I busted the only non replacement section of line on mine when I bumped the outlet with my knee making everything twist. So after some fart assing around I simply replace the line with a bit of auto fuel line and a couple of clamps. It's only a cheap old 2ish hp someone gave me after mine was stolen. While wondering how to fix it I decided to pull it apart for a good clean and seal replacement on to motor........then after my makeshift repair the leaking out the exhaust valve had me stuffed. I watched this video when straight out to the shed and low and behold, I'd put the check valve in backwards 🤣.....there were a few drinks involved before I put it back together. Your video directed me straight to my failure so thank you so much for your time making this video. 👍

    • @MikeTyson2
      @MikeTyson2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyanBurisch it is popping air I disconnected the hose coming out of the compressor itself. I'm close to you just taking it off the tank, mounting it to something and making a little enclosure. Really don't need the tank but I couldn't find a small compressor that size to air up car tires in the winter and I drain it with the petcock every time I'm finished to prevent rust also I check my tires with the tire gauge when I'm done

    I found my leak right at the bottom of the valve where it screws into the tank. I unscrewed it without heat,( it was tight due to whatever was on there from factory) But I got it off & cleaned threads with wire brush then used pipe dope on threads & screwed back in. No leakes

  • @balisticsquirel
    @balisticsquirel หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a scenario where part of the air pumped on initial fill (from zero pressure till ~ 1 bar) is wasted from the control unit. Thereafter, all air goes into the tank. And there are no leaks while running or while not above this pressure. So it's not a check valve as this video is about. Do you know what this could be?

  • @jonathancorry688
    @jonathancorry688 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would a good grade thread lock not do the same job as the sealant?

  • @wilsonlaidlaw
    @wilsonlaidlaw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my case, I think it is the unloader itself not the non-return valve that is the problem. If I give the switch box a tap while there is air exhausting out from underneath, the unloader shuts, the leak stops and does not reoccur until the compressor has been left off for a few days. I have a complete new replacement switch box but I am being lazy and trying to avoid having to replace it completely and changing over all the fittings and gauges with either Teflon tape or Loctite 542 sealant. I will try squirting a bit of Servisol switch cleaning and lubricating fluid up the unloader port underneath the switch, with a long straw. If that does not work, I have the new switch to fall back on.

    • @raemondbradford1629

      That sounds like it might be the unloader valve which needs checked, or replaced. It sits under the pressure regulator switch and is marked exhaust valve in the video here.

    Great video,my compressor is blowing fuses as it start to refill,but no when the tank is empty ,i chsnged the none return valve but still the same,i noticed air leak under the pressure switch,could that be blowing the fuse ?

    • @gerger503
      @gerger503 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sounds like the pressure release valve isn’t dumping the air in the line once the air receiver is up to pressure. Every time the air receiver is up to pressure and the compressor switches off, you should hear a hiss of air being released. This is to limit the load on the motor when it restarts. If you have a compressor where the red on/off button operates the pressure release valve (like most hobby compressors) it should not be turned off at the wall socket because this doesn’t operate the pressure release valve. Doing that will overload the motor on startup and may blow fuses. Not sure if that's your problem but hope it helps.
