This Chicken Scratch will ask the question, does the Jehovah's Witness denial of the immortal soul, Biblical or logical? Spoiler alert....it's neither.

Hebrews 4:12 says “the word of God is alive and ... pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit.” This clearly shows that there is a difference between the two, but JWs gloss right over that part of that scripture.

WT won't allow the witnesses to allow that to really sink in and really teach them what this verse means. Why? Well that too much like the world says that those who die, their spirit goes to heaven with God and Jesus. WT can't have anyone going to heaven and can't allow the witnesses to know that a part of a person that dies actually goes to heaven. The spirit goes back to God who gave it, and that spirit is what gave the body breath, life, animation, mannerisms, personality, idiosyncrasies, uniqueness, etc., etc., etc. I am very comforted to know that my loved ones who have died are alive in the spirit, in heaven.

I always shake my head when JWs bring up anything in Ecclesiastes. The whole book is about a man that is talking about physical life, or to be more specific; EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN. They will take this one small verse and base their entire theology on this verse, without looking at the context, or even other verses within Ecclesiastes that say otherwise. If so, then we also have to believe there is NO MORE REWARD. (mic drop inserted here) So we need to be careful about devising mindless doctrines from Ecclesiastes, because we can justify anything thru Solomon's words.
But the real problem is that they have to throw out the entire New Testament, and eve Jesus' words. Jesus spoke of Lazarus and the Rich Man. They will say this is just a parable, but they have fallen prey to WT theology again. This is a real event told by Jesus. How do we know this? NO PARABLE EVER USED PROPER NAMES. The account given by Jesus confirms consciousness after death of the the physical. Luke 16:19-31. Jesus also told his followers that those who live and believe in Him will never die. This is spiritual. John 11:25-26.
Gut let's go even further in the writing of Paul. Some, maybe many, or even most JWs never address this. Paul said that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. II Cor 5:1-9. Notice Paul talks about the flesh as a "tent", and if the tent is gone(the body dies) we will not be found "naked", we will be with the Lord. But even that isn't the only place Paul talks about his. Philippians 1:19-24 speaks more into the state of man once we shed the body. Paul says expressly that he would rather depart and be with the Lord, which is FAR BETTER, BUT, that he needs to remain and continue his ministry for their sake.
We haven't even begun to touch on the visions of John and all the saints standing before the throne of God. What? Are they just a figment of his imagination? Then you better throw out the whole Book, or even the whole Bible.
IT is all quite easy to debunk this JW teaching of "soul sleep". All you really need to do is READ YOUR BIBLE.

That’s a big question. I think things get a little strange when we talk about entering into God’s realm where there is no time. It appears to me, if we die, we are instantly raised, and with God, given new glorified bodies and will eventually live on a new Earth with God. It’s possible when you die it’s instantly judgement day, since there is not time in heaven. But for the Christian, you close upu eyes in physical death and will immediately wake up in glory and be with God, and never truly experience death.

One view is that Christ physically returns, everyone sees him, he reigns on the earth, and evil slowly begins to disappear while and then once the 1000 years hits, heaven comes to earth, Satan is gone, everything is great. Another view is that Christ removes all the wicked, he reigns here, then heaven comes to earth after the 1000 years. And yet another, Christ is reigning now, and eventually will return in judgement and establish heaven on earth and destroy all the wicked. No matter what happens, God wins.

What is a resurrected, glorious body? How is Jesus in heaven with a body of flesh and bone? Who knows? What JWs try to do is have a "logical" explanation for everything, black and white. My question to JWs is, if nothing survives death, what is there to resurrect? God will just make a whole new universe with you in it right? How is that so different than what Orthodox Christians teach? It's all cut from the same mysterious cloth so why fight over it? I know why... JWs are on a mission to prove only they have the truth, that's all it amounts to.

But after Jesus came to earth and died that is did not exist only then could the ransom be paid. Other wise what good would a ransom be if jesus really didnt die that means no payment. Jesus after his resurrection was granted immortality. Humans do not have an immortal soul. So in genesis we read after God breathed the breath of life into adam the man came to be a living soul! Ecclesiastes 9:2 is about the righteous and the wicked both having the same end result in this "world" or "system of things", both die or "all have the very same outcome" as "sinners".(Rom 5:12) But the righteous are guaranteed a resurrection from the dead (Luke 13:28, 29) while the wicked is to be judged by Jesus as to whether or not they receive a resurrection at all.(John 5:21, 22; 2 Tim 4:1)
And when Jesus said that Lazarus "has fallen asleep" at John 11:11, the disciples thought, as so many others, that Jesus literally meant that Lazarus was, well, just asleep, taking a nap.(John 11:12, 13) But Jesus corrected their thinking, by saying: "Lazarus has died".(John 11:14)
And at Psalms 49, it is speaking of wealthy ones "who are trusting in their riches, and who boast about their riches", and even with their wealth, "none can ever redeem even a brother".(Ps 49:6, 7) So, if Jehovah sees that they would never "search for Jehovah" (Isa 55:6), unwilling to change even in the face of death, with love of money as their god, they "are assigned like sheep to the Grave; Death will shepherd them........Every trace of them will fade away; the Grave rather than a palace will be their home".(Ps 49:14)
For those who have "searched for Jehovah", the Psalmist says: "But God will redeem me from the power of the Grave, for he will take hold of me" (Ps 49:15), knowing that he will be restored to life again at Jehovah's appointed time, or more specific for most, during Jesus Millennial reign.(Rev 20:4-6)
And when Jesus said to Martha, that "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone who is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all", did Jesus mean that his disciples would literally "never die at all" ?(John 11:25, 26) The answer is no. How can this be known ?
By what Jesus told the Sadducees, who did not believe in the resurrection (Luke 20:27), but made up a story of a woman married to seven brothers and whereby they all died, so that Jesus straightens them out, that the resurrection is real: "But that the dead are raised up, even Moses made known in the account about the thornbush, when he calls Jehovah ‘the God of Abraham and God of Isaac and God of Jacob.’ He is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him."(Luke 20:37, 38)
So, those who have placed their faith in Jehovah's "only-begotten Son"(John 3:16), as the channel through which Jehovah will provide salvation for obedient humans (Acts 4:12; 2 Cor 1:20), but yet dies, they are still alive in Jehovah's mind or memory, so that what Jesus said at verse 26 is just that, these ones are as if they are alive to Jehovah, only waiting for their resurrection to happen, to recreate the same person with all their desires, just as Jehovah did with Jesus.(Acts 2:32; 3:15)
And as for soul and spirit, the soul (Hebrews nephesh, that literally means "a breather") is us with all our desires as Deuteronomy 12:20 says, such as the longing for food, at Jeremiah 2:34 (King James Bible), where the soul bleeds, at Genesis 2:7 (King James Bible) in which Adam became (was not given or implanted with) a living soul once he started breathing (he was dead soul before he started breathing), just as a man becomes a doctor upon graduation from medical school and does not possess a doctor.
At Leviticus 23:30 (King James Bible), it says that the soul can be destroyed, just as at Acts 3:23, whereby Peter says to the Jews in the temple: "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet (Jesus Christ), shall be destroyed from among the people."(King James Bible) At James 5:20 (King James Bible), it says that the soul dies, just as Isaiah 53:12 says that Jesus soul died.(King James Bible) So, the soul is not immortal as the churches teach, in which the false doctrine of "hellfire" depends on the immortality of the soul, that supposedly burns and is screaming in agony forever as their "punishment".
Of the spirit, it is an invisible force that produces visible results, such as our active life force (that can be likened to electricity for an appliance), that can be snuffed out so that we die.(Ecc 12:7) At Psalms 146, it says: "Do not put your trust in princes nor in a son of man, who cannot bring salvation. His spirit (or life force) goes out, he returns to the ground; On that very day his thoughts perish (ceasing to exist)."(Ps 146: 3, 4)
Or it can be a spirit in the spirit realm, such as an angel or Jehovah or Jesus, that is undetectable by humans, as seen at Psalms 104:3, 4. Or the word spirit (Hebrew ruach) can mean a person's motivation, their will to live, that can be "crushed", as seen at Proverbs 18:14: "A person’s spirit can sustain him through illness, but who can bear a crushed spirit ?"

Jehovah's Witnesses god is like a man who takes revenge on some random person because he was bullied when he was 12 years old. If a person ceases to exist when they die, "Jehovah " just creates a new person just to punish them for sins they didn't commit. That is why I am Christian, our GOD is merciful and just. He only punishes the person who has unrepentant sins. He isn't petty like your "Jehovah".

  • @mo2874
    @mo2874 ปีที่แล้ว

Interesting but incorrect. The bible teaches that at death we cease to exist. To demonstrate. *Before a persons parents got together where was that person? They did not exist, because the genetic material from mother and father had not joined to form that person.* It's logical then that once the body dies that genetic material disintegrates. Where does that leave the person? Non-existent again.
People love to go into the original language and the meaning of "soul" and "spirit" and that is helpful. The bible however gives a very simple explanation of the composition of man...
    Genesis 2:7 King James Bible
And the LORD God *formed man of the dust of the ground,* and *breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;* and *man became a living soul.*
    New International Version
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, *and the man became a living being.*
    New Living Translation
Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, *and the man became a living person.*
    1) Man is composed of the elements of the ground/dust. Like the saying goes "dust to dust, ashes to ashes." And when a person decomposes or is cremated what is left but dust...
    2) Man has the breath of life in them. When a person drowns what do paramedics do...they give "mouth to mouth." They breathe into the person/resuscitate. That breath gets the body going again, reanimates the body. So breath of life is to do with "power". Think of it another way...when a fire is dying down, the embers are glowing, how do you get the fire to reignite? You fan it/give it oxygen. And often times a flame will ignite again.
Appliances all work the same in our homes. When the power is connected they turn on. Turn off the power the items are dead/non functioning.
Items that have a memory/storage in them only retain that information while powered. That's why when there's a power outage you might have to reset the digital clocks in your home etc.
With those daily principles in mind now look at the bible...
    Ecclesiastes 12:7 New Living Translation
*7For then the dust will return to the earth,* and *the spirit will return to God who gave it.*
    Contemporary English Version
So our bodies return to the earth, and the *life-giving breath returns to God.*
    Ecclesiastes 3:18-22 New Living Translation
18I also thought about the human condition-how God proves to people that they are like animals. *19For people and animals share the same fate-both breathea and both must die.* So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless! *20Both go to the same place-they came from dust and they return to dust. 21For who can prove that the human spirit goes up and the spirit of animals goes down into the earth?* 22So I saw that there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work. That is our lot in life. *And no one can bring us back to see what happens after we die.*
    Ecclesiastes 9:10 New Living Translation
10Whatever you do, do well. *For when you go to the grave,b there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.*
    Psalms 146:4 New Living Translation
*When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.*
    New International Version
*When their spirit departs,* they return to the ground; *on that very day their plans come to nothing.*
So the bible clearly shows we return to the state we were prior to our being conceived through the joining of our parents - Non existent. It's like the expression people use about riches "you can't take it with you when you die." The ancient Pharoahs tried that and their treasures they were entombed with were later dug up and taken...
    Job 1:21 Amplified Bible
*He said, “Naked (without possessions) I came [into this world] from my mother’s womb, And naked I will return there.* The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
The breath of life/spirit/energy/spark/flame is is not a person, it is just an activating impersonal force like electricity. When the body dies that force dissipates. So there is no life in any way once power leaves the body...
    James 2:26 New Living Translation
*Just as the body is dead without breath,* so also faith is dead without good works.
    New International Version
*As the body without the spirit is dead,* so faith without deeds is dead.
    So what is the soul?
1 Corinthians 15:45 King James Bible
And so it is written, *The first man Adam was made a living soul;* the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
    New Living Translation
The Scriptures tell us, *“The first man, Adam, became a living person.”* But the last Adam-that is, Christ-is a life-giving Spirit.
*The Soul is the person* - Body and breath of Life combined. Think about the expressions "you poor soul" or SOS (save our soul), both refer to a living breathing person...
    Matthew 22:37 New Living Translation
37Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, *all your soul,* and all your mind.’e
An immortal soul or spirit undermines the ransom of Jesus as well. A ransom is a payment to release a captive from being held. Mankind was ransomed by Jesus. But from what? Eternal death...
    Ezekiel 18:4, 20 Amplified Bible
4Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: *the soul who sins shall die.*
*20The soul who sins shall die.* The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
    New Living Translation
4For all people are mine to judge-both parents and children alike. And this is my rule: *The person who sins is the one who will die.*
*20The person who sins is the one who will die.*
    Psalms 49:8 King James Bible
(For the *redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)*
    Contemporary English Version
*It costs far too much to buy back your life. You can never pay God enough*
    Matthew 20:28 Amplified Bible
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to *give His life as a ransom for many [paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin].”*
    New Living Translation
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, *so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.*
This is where a lie was introduced that seems plausible...STANDBY. In this mode a TV appears to be off, but really it's in reduced power mode. Standby is not off, its still ON. When power is disconnected from the mains there is no standby mode, off is OFF.
So if humans did not truly die but they lived on as an immortal spirit/being/soul, then humans were not really dead - They were just in a standby/alternative mode. Jesus ransom payment would mean nothing. *It is only because humans were left with eternal death (no power) as an inheritance from Adam that Jesus was able to free us by a ransom payment. Through Jesus we are reconnected back to the source of life/power - God.*
1 Corinthians 15:22 New Living Translation
Just as *everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.*
