  • A litte tutorial on making the Leica SL2 truly "your own" - as requested by people following me on my channel.
    I explain in detail
    user profiles
    customization of buttons and settings
    restoring the camera after hard reset or replacement camera by stored user profiles
    Addendum: I forgot to mention that you can also quickly toggle between user profiles via the corresponding field on the Status Screen, just try it out :) The customization itself then happens via the menu settings as demonstrated in the video. Happy Shooting!

    Thank you for your helpful tutorials. There is a problem with the user profiles: Unfortunately, different M settings cannot be saved in different user profiles. Is this a bug? Thanks for your anser.

    Thanks for this video, Math
    I hope you don’t mind me asking two questions:
    1) how can I delete a specific user profile
    2) is it possible to assign a button to a certain profile to very fast activate the profile with wildlife photography?
    Thanks very much!

    How about an explanation of how you can edit a profile? I can’t understand why Leica did not include an edit function on a user profile. Very frustrated.

    On the SL2, SL2S how do you set a lower limit to shutter speed in auto-ISO and Aperture priority please? I can only see how to set an upper which is strange.

    Obviously you can’t then format the card. When you export does it export it to both cards or just one card?

    Morning, can you have to different M modes with different shutter speeds? One for long exposure and the other for street (1/250) ? I am struggling to set this up. The shutter speed always gets overwritten.

    Always enjoy your videos. This one I've viewed more than once. Last week I traded in my M10 for a SL2. Now I'm trying to become familiar with it using Leica primes. As in your video, there is a default (factory) profile. I followed your example and created my own 'Peter' profile. Every time I turn on the camera, it seems to return to the camera default profile and I have to manually tap my preferred profile icon.. Is this 'the way it is' or can I somehow set it somewhere to auto open to my 'Peter' profile with my preferred settings?

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let me look into it. The easiest way to choose the profile is from status screen via touch.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just checked the topic on my SL2: when I chose my own profile "mathphotographer" and switch the camera off and on it still keeps my own profile. So it should actually work the same way for you.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try the follwowing: choose your own profile from status screen (the icon with the avatar/person) and then half-press shutter button after you selected your profile. Switch camera off/on. Does it then again show your own profile you chose before via tap/swipe on status screen? It should.

    Thank you for a great tutorial again, but even this ' simple' menu dazzles me. And there is even a friggin keyboard to see.. I am in the market for a Leica R9-D but guess Leica will not honour my request. So, will remain a potential customer for a camera that doesn't exist.

    Thank you for the useful information. I recently decide to switch my system to Leica just wondering what kind of off camera flash system it will support. To be more specific, does the Leica Sl system works in conjunction with any Godox triggers? Thank you in advance for the information.

    I have a question I hope you can answer: I set the small top left button ( the one closest to the viewfinder) from switching from photo to video to displaying user profiles. However, when I turn off and then turn on the camera that adjustment is gone and the button has gone back to switching between photo and video. How do I keep my customization of this button?
    Thanks

    • @rogerstevens3973

      @@mathphotographer I spoke to a Leica expert at the Leica store and he explained to me that the options for that particular function button are not global. They instead are applicable to a specific user profile and thus the selection of any the drop down selections under that button need to be saved to a specific user profile just like any of the other attributes you mention in your video. So for Instance if you are in your Tripod user profile you would hold down the function button, select the attribute you wish and then before doing anything else go through the menu to user profiles and save that profile again. Then the next time you select the Tripod user profile that attribute will be available. The reasoning behind this as explained by the Leica rep.is that there can be multiple users of one camera, say at a studio. This way each user has personalized settings. I followed the procedure and it indeed works.

    Excellent video, Matt. really helpful. When you export your profiles to the SD card. What happens when you format the card in the camera - will it also "format or delete" the user profiles on the card or only the images? or is it a good idea to keep them on a spare SD card?

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should store them separately. I never tested it but guess if you format the card, the profiles are lost too. Better be on the safe side. Many thanks for your positive comment.
