    Very interesting and logically explained too. You guys are producing the best practical Leica content on TH-cam at present 👍

    Thanks very much for this outline, Nick.
    The Leica SL2 was already an insanely good camera. To receive this multi-shot capability unexpectedly in the firmware update just takes the entire system to another level.
    That the Leica optics are able to keep up with this sort of resolution says volumes about the technical excellence of the system.
    I feel very privileged to have this sort of capability in my hands. It entirely validates my decision to go with the Leica SL system.
    Thanks again and all the best.

      Couldn't agree more!

    • @maziatr
      @maziatr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree with that statement as the lens is not having to resolve 187 MPs. It only needs to resolve 47MPs as each shot is only using the sensors maximum resolution which is not 187 MPs of course.

    • @sophrapsune
      @sophrapsune 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maziatr
      You are correct that the sensor could record a 187MP file with a bad lens fitted to the camera.
      However, to resolve 187 MP of real information and not just create a 187MP image of blur, there has to be a real, high resolution optical image for the sensor to detect.
      The sensor can't make up information that isn't there.
      So to get a true, 187MP image the entire imaging chain needs to be up to the challenge, including (especially) the lens optics.
      The point is that the Leica SL lenses are up to the task. The Full Frame lenses of most other manufacturers couldn't achieve this level of true image resolution.

      @@sophrapsune I'm not gonna get into the mass mp conversation here but, good glass is essential to great output no matter what brand you shoot. The Leica glass is probably more than 50% of the equation in the Leica look. I believe their color tek is close to the other 50%. Just MHO. Happy shooting.

      Yeh, sure.
      It’s an optical system and all parts are essential for high performance.
      There would be no point in the SL2 if the lenses weren’t superb, and the body extracts great functionality out of those lenses including post-processing of the few remaining optical distortions.

    For reference, the average visible wavelength is 500nm, or 0.5um. So a 2um movement is 4 wavelengths long! It's doubtful a greater precision could be achieve without introducing new types of artifacts.

    It’s a great feature but keep it on mind that this technology I had in my hands from Pentax 6 years ago and it was possible to use it handheld;) so it’s an amazing feature and hi tech but it’s not new and can’t do that some cameras can do it years ago. Btw I’m Leica fan and love the brand! You doing a fantastic job with this Chanel;)

    Hello 👋, I am very interested in the SL system, can the SL2 make focus stacking while in Multishot mode? Also is there a macro lens within the SL system ?
    Thank you

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do focus stacking manually in multi shot mode. It's quite easy. No there is not a Leica-branded macro lens in the SL range (apart from the 60mm TL lens) but there are L-Mount macro lenses available from other lens manufacturers. See the video by Kristian Dowling about photographing sneakers.

    I wonder if anyone successfully shooting tethered with Lightroom or Capture 1 ?
    Any experiences to share?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can certainly shoot tethered using Lightroom - you need to use Image Shuttle 3.0 and then set LR up with a watched folder to auto-import the images that Image Shuttle 3.0 copies to that same folder. We did that at the launch of the SL2 in Sydney and it worked fine as long as you shoot at a reasonable pace.

    Very interesting, thank you. Which iMac (processor, GPU, graphic card...)do you have to work serenely in Photoshop with a basic 1GB layer? Another question, which tripod do you suggest for good multishoot results?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Amator. I was showing the images on a low spec iMac 21" and it struggled - only 8GB ram. My main work machine is a 2017 i9 6-core Macbook Pro with 32GB RAM and that handles these big files perfectly fine. I am taking delivery of an 8-core iMac 27" very soon with a really good graphics card and 72GB ram - that will eat up the Multishot files! The key is lots of ram, more so than processor speed.

      @@airg75 - not speaking for Leica AUS, just personal experience; i've been using the Peak Design travel tripod, carbon fibre model with my SL2. It has been handling weight and balance with ease with the 90-280. It is SUPER lightweight and portable and have used it from Antarctica to the Australian bush without issues. Their plate system is ingenious if you choose to buy in to their ecosystem.

    Hi thanks for the info, i did notice on the woodland shot when you zoomed in that there is again white hot pixel rain showing across the image, i have noticed this on a number of images i have taken using the normal sensor but on long Exposure shots, there was a You Tube video mentioning this th-cam.com/video/CbV9RjQFcos/w-d-xo.html, do you have any comments on this please

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary. You have eagle eyes! I had a close look and I do see what you are referring to. However, what you are seeing is tiny white specular highlights caused by the sun reflecting off leaves - it's a backlit shot of course. There are no white specks in the deep shadows. The shot was taken at 1/125 sec. so no chance of any long exposure noise issues.

    Cette update est catastrophique… Leica ne répond plus aux demandes précises des vrais utilisateurs et photographes de leurs produits. Le Panasonic S1R est nettement supérieur au SL2 tout simplement parce que l’ergonomie est pensée 100% photographie.

    M6 should have been the last camera Leica ever produced,it’s all about nanotechnology nowadays and no one talks about the principles of photography,about the balance between the the mind the heart and the eye as henri Cartier Bresson use to say.
