I watched this video in preparation for my Q3 arriving and have now sat through it again with my camera in my hand. The information is invaluable and has saved me so much time trying to figure out the best settings to start my journey with the Q3. For me, it is without doubt the most comprehensive and best setup video for the Q3 available. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make it.
Spectacularly helpful for new Q3 owner. I sat and watched the entire video, stopping where needed and rewinding, as I setup my new Q3. Thank you very much for taking the time to post this video.
I’ve been following you for 4 years now and I applaud you for all the hardwork and effort you invest in these tutorials. Much appreciated and keep them coming. Hello from NYC
I just received my Q3 after waiting for 6 months. Although I have owned the Q and Q2 I found this Q3 tutorial to be fantastic and very helpful. Thank you so much !
I recently did a live music photo shoot with the Q3 and Fuji XT5 56mm. Although the Q3 at iso 3200 was very sharp it had much more grain than the XT5 at iso 3200. I was surprised!
Thank you for posting. Excellent How-to video. All I need now is a Q3, which, I am told, will be resting on my hands in the next 6 to 9 months. I will be visiting these tutorials quite a bit.
Thanks for all your time and effort producing this series of user guides on the Q3. Being new to both Leica and the Q3 I’ve found them incredibly helpful and comprehensive. Thank you! I look forward to watching the video guide.
Just received my Leica Q3 from BH after a 6 month wait. This video has been extremely helpful in getting to know the camera and basic setup. Thank You!!
Brilliant as usual Math, thank you, much appreciated. Still playing around with the custom button choices and remembering what I have assigned to each (it's an age thing, mostly).
Great Phillip, there are so many functions of choice for custom buttons. It can be confusing, and I recommend to customize the buttons once and then develop your own workflow with it.
Thank you very much for your excellent and Comprehensive Tutorial. You are really amazing and extremely helpful. I look forward to watching your Part 3 tutorial on Video guide. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much for this tutorial video on Q3. You explained all the features of this camera in a very clear, understandable way. I absolutely learned a lot. Great job! Thanks again.
Excellent....Excellent......Excellent. Nobody can explain camera settings etc. like you, period ! I really need to swap my Q-P for a Q3 (main reason is the dial down of the MP and as bonus get a better dynamic range) But all those new setting are also a great benefit. Meanwhile, can I point out to you the new video of Matt (Mr. Leica) where he interviews Peter Coulson why she switched to the Leica SL2 and SL2-s as his second system (beside the H 6) Very good video and interview where Peter debunks the whole high MP hype and meanwhile explains that "tack sharp" in fashion and portrait photography is totally not mandatory Thanks for sharing and looking forward to part 2. Have great weekend and greeting from a very warm Amsterdam, in the country where since yesterday evening the government has fallen, ....hurray !
Many thanks RS, I try to be helpful, appreciate your positive feedback! I follow Mr. Leica (Matt Osborne) for a while, great guy and great videos. And of course I like his stats about best Leica channels on TH-cam where I had the privilege to score well :) mrleica.com/best-leica-youtubers/ Will look into your recommended video. Enjoy the weekend, we have 35 degrees Celsius in Zurich but I enjoy the warm weather a lot.
Thanks for the detailed videos on the setup!! Apologies if you've mentioned this but I don't recall. With Q3, is it possible to allow for AF ONLY (no auto-exposure) on half button press while allowing for manual exposure? Coming from M, I am used to setting my own exposure (Aperture & Shutter) but do want the AF
Many thanks for producing this video. Just what a first time user of Q3, such as myself, needed. I have questions but I'll save those for now and put them up after I have seen part 2. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for such a diligent review. The exposure section was very informative. Usually (non-Leica) I use the histogram to evaluate exposure, and particularly like to see separate RGB channels so that I can see if I’m blowing out one channel and hence getting poor colour information. Does the Q3 have separate RGB histograms available to view?
So I have the L DNG and switched between B&W and B&W High Contrast. When viewing on the Preview Slideshow on the Mac I get a very short B7W then the DNG file is colorized. I have never seen that before. I am wondering if Apple or Adobe software is affecting this. Have you ever seen this? I do not own Capture One or Lightroom Classic. Cheers!
The AF Quick setting is actually really handy in the touch AF in EVF configuration. If you double tap the screen while you’re in spot focus or field focus it’ll reset the focus point to the center of the field. Super handy if you were shooting something off center then, later, you raise up your camera and realize you’re focus point is way off to the side. It’s a really nice quick reset. If you turn off Touch AF in EVF then double tapping the screen does nothing.
Thanks for posting. After waiting for several months, I get to pick up my new q3 tomorrow morning. Great tutorial you have posted! Quick question, there are times when the histogram is displayed on the camera display and times when it is not. Is there a setting or camera mode which needs to be set properly to see the histogram?
Thank you so much for all the input, that is really really helpful! Just a question to you or the community: I noticed after my first shots that it is quite hard to get a focused sharp image of either a group with several people moving like on a birthday party (how can I focus on the "whole" image?), or same as with landscape shots that contain a person in nature, where for instance I don't want a blurry background, but a full focused image with focussed mountain in the background as well as a fully sharp body of the person captured in front. Can somebody help me which focus mode to use? With AF-C it seems to be super hard especially when activating auto focus - when I move into the image, I'm not sharp sadly in 99% of the cases. Thanks a lot guys!
Congrats for this video and your channel! What about if I'm in full manual mode (I choose my ISO, shutter speed and aperture)? I guess it doesn't matter which light metering mode you choose (spot, evaluative etc...). Am I right? I've done some tests, and the metering mode makes no difference when I'm in full manual.Could you confirm (or not...) please ? Regards.
Thanks a lot for this comprehensive guide!! So much better that reading the instructions manual 😅 Do you know by any chance if there is a way of maintaining different default settings for photo and video? So for example, that every time I switch to video mode my ss is 1/50 and when I switch to photo it's 1/250? Thanks again!!
first of all: I really appriciate your Videos. second: Do you you think it is neccesary to update the camera system von Q2 to Q3. I guess the only thing I actually missed is the pivotable display..
Judt got my Q3 today. The build is impeccable. I must say though looking through the evf though everything was blurry. So blurry I thought I had a defect but when I take the shot it's sharp?!? OK excited to watch your full setup.videps but I already have a problem at the focus section. I have it set for AFS but AF mode is grayed out. Help?!
Hi, I had the same problem with a blurry view through the evf. But I could somewhat fix it by looking through the evf and adjusting the dioptre adjustment near the evf. In addition use the focus peaking in blue that works very well. But I do think this camera is primarily for autofocus.
@@jayj8524 thanks for the help! after my comment I realized that button to the side was the diopter! Its my bad because I have an M11 and super used to it and forgot that there is an evf on the Q3. Additionally, this is not a true 28mm, I think its closer to 24mm, which is fine by me, the shots seem much wider then my 35mm summicron so I like that there is a bigger disparity then what I was expecting. I think I will try to master the zone focus though because that is better for street photography.
Many thanks, appreciate your feedback. On your question, its embarrasing :) but I film my content with an iPhone ... works well for me and never let me down.
Yes - Sony Tough series, very robust, very reliable. Watch the video I will post today on the Leica M11-P and then you will see the SD card I am using.
Hello, very interesting presentation of the Q3. Congratulations! But one question: which focusing mode would you suggest for landscape photography? Thank you from Luxembourg
I also removed the Leica and Lim's Design Thumb Grip because the Hot Shoe connection has become loose holding these accessories. I am using the Lim's Design Dark Brown Half Case for the Q3 and have a Leather Camera Strap matching the color of the case. Also the function Buttons are assigned to Digital Zoom, next one to the right is Leica Looks and the Dial is AE Lock. Cheers!
Great video, thanks, learned a lot of every minute! Also your personal tips what to use of what not to use was very helpful for me! Curious how i can get the maximum out of the battery, shooting with the EVF of the screen.
Excellent video. I’m still a bit confused regarding “Intelligent AF”. The manual describes in this mode the camera automatically chooses between AFc and AFs. This does not seem to describe the camera deciding what to focus on as you had described in video.
wonderful video and just in time, my Q3 arrives Monday! Unrelated, but curious how your batt life has been? I've read people getting *only* ~250 shots. Anyway keep the great content coming
Thanks! Monday is early, you are lucky. A lot of people will have to wait for some more months. Great you get it tomorrow, happy shooting. On battery life: I am ok with battery life, definitely more shots and lasts longer than the smaller capacity battery in the Q2.
This video reminded me why I went from Sony A7R to Leica M system. Too many options gets me lost and spend more time with settings than actually taking pictures.

Just picked up the new Q3/43. This is a wonderful aid for my new Leica adventure. You do a terrific job on these tutorials. Thank you.

I just received my Q3 after waiting for 6 months. Although I have owned the Q and Q2 I found this Q3 tutorial to be fantastic and very helpful. Thank you so much !
How have you found all three cameras. A lot of people said the Q has the best low light performance...
I recently did a live music photo shoot with the Q3 and Fuji XT5 56mm. Although the Q3 at iso 3200 was very sharp it had much more grain than the XT5 at iso 3200. I was surprised!

Thanks for taking time to explain this new camera.

Very informative. Would have missed so many useful tips. You are a gentleman sir! Forever grateful.

Matt you make the best Leica videos. Thank you!
Thank you very much. Your videos are crystal clear to run the configuration. The one related to Pixel Binning is also a must seen.
Your presentation was excellent. Thank you!
Extremely useful tutorial. Thank you.
Best tutorial on Q3
This video is so helpful to get up to speed asap. Fantastic. Thank you!
