Having driven formula type cars, this isn't how it is. The steering is quite smooth and it does not fight you like that, depending on the car but i'd say around 7-12nm is what's required to turn. The thing that gives you the real workout is the g-forces while turning, that's why most racingdrivers have large necks to support those forces.
i dont get that i never used a ffb wheel before and bought a dd1 i always run it at the full 20nm its not that bad it doesnt feel super realistic at full but its really fun to fight it
Your experience with getting whacked by the steering wheel makes me so glad I didn't get that DD2 that was on sale on Black Friday. I have a similar wheel so I'd probably get hit the same way as you. On a totally separate subject, I actually got my wrist caught in between the gap between the handle and the flat part and the wheel slowly turned and so my arm was slowly being twisted. Thankfully it stopped after it hit 90 degrees. I had a 8Nm CSL DD. My wrist would have been broken if I had your base.
I'm using a Thrustmaster T300 and I love it and never regret buying it used 2 years ago. I would like to try a DD base, but I am not dedicated to sim racing enough to warrant buying one myself, and unfortunately I don't know anybody that has one. I have a co-worker into sim flying, but even he is jealous of my rig compared to his! I'd also like to try a load cell brake pedal, but again, not worth me upgrading any time soon.
I have a moza r5 with just over 5nm. Tried it with about 130% strength in assetto corsa and rfactor 2. Im a former powerlifter, used to repping 180kg on the bench for example. Obviously Im strong enough. But the obvious point to me is what is effective to be Quick on track? Im about at 80-90% now on that wheel which feels powerful enough to communicate everything I need. I cant understand the point really with like 20nm wheels.
As you are, I enjoyed powerlifting (although knowjere as strong as you lmao) With more experience ive come to the conclusion that ~ 10nm is the sweetspot
Its not 8 nm its like 30 really or even more imagine olé cars día not have any wheel assistance but they had not the amount of grip tath the today f1 cars have and taths why they have a little bit o steering assistance because if they had no wheel assistance the steering would literally imposible of turn
@@venunix old systems without power steering is only hard to steer when you have no speed. As soon as you bring in some speed into the scenario the steering eases up significantly. Obviously nothing compared to power steering but it is far from the 30nm i believe
