I've been thinking of upgrading some bearings in some of my 15+ year old Curado reels. I was not expecting there to be any difference in aftermarket bearings though. I just figured that my since I use my reels in saltwater that they could benefit from new bearings. The first time you said "y'all" I subscribed. There's an automatic +5 on ability and fishing knowledge for anyone that says that.
Why? Ambassadeurs use German made GRW bearings that are very high quality. Here is a 30 year old 4500C that's factory stock with the exception of the carbon drag. This is just a two bearing reel, all the rest are bushings. th-cam.com/users/shortsGQ_ZSFF8row?si=ShwYAXSQ3LLhPKUn
Thanks for the insight, science wins as ceramic ball bearings have less mass than steel balls. According to Newton as the mass of an object is increased, the acceleration of the object is decreased. A close to perfect experiment considering the variables as they are for a fishing TH-camr. Well done sir.
I do alot of bank fishing and I've been in situations where 5 or 10 yards would get me to the cover I'm trying to target. So $30 for 10 yards is worth it to me.
I'm about to upgrade my 3 yr old black max with high speeds new xcr bearings. They are supposed to be even better by a lot. So hopefully I can get way further cast.... apparently their are specific type oils you need to use on their ceramic bearings. We shall see
I don't know mabe but I fish alot of ponds that I can cast straight across with a spinning reel Or I'm in my kayak or boat so I don't know but thank you and keep up the good work
I actually did this to my Abu Garcia Blackmax and it was ok. I can cast further with my lews. May as well just spend the money on a better reel than a bearing upgrade in my opinion.
While I would tend to agree with you. I believe we both can agree for some this is a better option to spend a total of $60 for a reel with upgraded bearings rather then $100 on a reel that would equal it out of the box.
makes me wonder what kinda gunk you're grinding into these tiny bearings to make them fail, a squirt of bp blaster and some super light oil oughta bring them pretty damn near back to brand new. xcr ultra bearing sets for $71 are a helluva upgrade but if you never clean'en they'll stick and gunk up as well.
Awesome video man, glad I found your channel on Instagram. I've never put aftermarket bearings in any of my reels. Those are some nice reels. Too bad it's not left handed lol. Keep it up man.
Higher end shimano reels come stock with bearings that are equal to the performance of the spool speed bearings. However I just bought 2 slx DC reels, the slx series doesnt come with the performance bearings and I already have spool speed bearings that will fit these reels. Im going to see if they help or not, with the dc technology Im doubting it will do much but its worth a try
Thanks for the vid. Great information. And a real life test. Only thing is... do you think the wind changed during the test. Only improvement I could think of is to alternate between the two to cancel out the uncontrollable variable of wind.
Too many factors to very in when doing things like this. It's a good starting point but I do think bearings help. How much, I don't know. But I do know that it helps in other departments than just distance.
Brett , our bass team was wanting people to talk at our meetings to the kids. I was wondering if you would be interested in that. You can bring some science to them or anything about anything.
Did you give the OEM bearings a fair shake? Meaning a deep cleaning and a drop of oil? I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by the results. Out of the box, many manufacturers either use a light grease or too much oil in the bearings. They come from a mass produced environment where speed in production is the motive and not the end performance. Comparing a brand new clean bearing with your own lubricant applied versus a factory pre-lubricated bearing isn't a fair comparison. Level the playing field; clean both, oil both, and repeat the test. Otherwise this is just a video meant to sell product with results that only appear valid to the uninitiated.
So the next video... Will the Torrent with upgraded bearings, out perform stock models of reels in the same price range ($60.00 range)? Can even compare it with other Piscifun reels, especially if they'd be down to sponsor with reels to test and review. Best of luck and tight lines. 🐟👊
Nice vid man ive put new bearings in one of my old reels aswell. only because the old one was rusted from saltwater! but honestly i feel like upgrading to expensive bearings isnt really worth it because they're SO expensive! just my opinion though. also i foud you on instagram from a give away so here i am! glad i subbed this was a cool vid.
👊 welcome to the channel. I am all about the budget anglers. If I can do something like this and let folks make up their own minds then I have done my job. It is all perspective. You can take a $30 reel add new bears and have a $60 reel that preforms like a $100 one. Or you can say I am happy with just just the reel as it comes. No wrong answer here just give everyone the info. 👊
It is a great line of reel. The only thing I could complain about is the shallow spool size but it has never been a problem. Im sure you have noticed that though
idk about after market bearings bc it seems like you would back lash a lot bc the reel is engineered for the bearings that are on there. I would think if you put them on a shimano and put on braking 2 it would spin too much and back lash. Great video though, keep up the great work. Which they might make specific after market bearings for shimano.

I have replaced the bearings on 3 of my older Abu Garcia round reels and they are a pleasure to fish with again.
Ambassadors? I give a buddy of my a lot of crap for fishing with "deep sea reels" but they are actually really good reels that last forever

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Putting SS in my Tatulas soon.
This was awesome, thanks for taking the tiem to film this, I definitely think 10 more yards per cast is worth $30

I'd say that just the better consistency is worth it for sure. Nice video bro

I can see that being a big help

For a crankbait its definitely worth. More distance means you get your crank bait down to the strike zone for longer.
I'm gonna be throwing some ceramic bearings in my abu pro max and revo rkt..
incredible good video, your a gifted youtuber on these vids, they help alot, thanks!
I don't know mabe but I fish alot of ponds that I can cast straight across with a spinning reel Or I'm in my kayak or boat so I don't know but thank you and keep up the good work
Thanks for the vid! Helped me make my decision to try ceramic in at least 1 of my abu's
Love the idea behind this video! Keep it up!👍
The extra 10 yards is great, but the clutch for ceramic bearings is being able to throw lighter baits.

@@B_the_Cameraman Agreed! 👊
20 yards is great for me, thanks for the video 🤙
I think it's a great option when you've used up your old bearings as a replacement .

I think it's worth it on budget reels it's better than spending big money on reels that can go that same distance. Thanks Brett
I would agree a total of $60 for a reel that preforms like $100+

I'm pretty sure you could get further casting with the spool tension a touch looser, they come out of the box looser then that don't they?
Sure you could and you could also backlash like crazy if you get it too loose.
That was sooo informative
Great vid man
Good change of pace
My videos are all over the place.
Hey Brett, I just punched out and waitin on my ride home, glad I got bfishing vid to see while I wait, bu the way the intro music is great
Very high paced

Good to know. 👊
Did you put the bearings in the DC reel? If so how is it

Potentially.
$30 to possibly land more fish... I'm gonna have to look into new bearings
I've seen the Piscifun reels on Amazon, and they have great reviews ! Might be worth the plunge !!
Interesting video 👍👍😁✌
For the price they are the best out there.
@@B_the_Cameraman good to know !! 👍👍🤜👊👊✌🤔😉
Thank you !!
Good toss
What about flipping and skipping?
Well looks like I’m ordering me some new barring’s for me reels!! Awesome video bro, I’ve been wondering if there going to make a difference.
Again, I wasn't providing an opinion either way just showing the difference and letting folks make an informed decision with their money.

IT COMES BETTER IN HAND HONESTLY FOR FLIPPING, MUCH BETTER CONTROL.
What bearings would I buy for a okuma ceymer reel
You would need to go to their website and see. I am not really sure
Brett , our bass team was wanting people to talk at our meetings to the kids. I was wondering if you would be interested in that. You can bring some science to them or anything about anything.
That is alot of pressure but I am game. Just send the info.
@@B_the_Cameraman ok I'll let you know when I know when the next meeting is
@@Mjones8383 this time of year it is good to understand specific heat. If you remember that video. Or how colors change as they sink
@@B_the_Cameraman anything you can teach them will be great, plus it's free publicity to around 20 people
@@Mjones8383 I like how you are asking me to teach them something and you are the one with more knowledge than me. Lol
I have a lews that I’m gonna do this with and 10 yards may produce a trophy
It very well could. We are talking 30ft farther. If you are deep cranking that really makes a difference.
Thanks for making the decision for me 😂💵

I am already on Piscifun's prostaff so that is not an issue. I have all of their reels
Very well done my friend 👍👍👍
What the testing or all the running? Lol

I got my phantom x in and oiled it up I'll put it to the test this weekend at smith
It is a great line of reel. The only thing I could complain about is the shallow spool size but it has never been a problem. Im sure you have noticed that though
@@B_the_Cameraman this one is actually pretty good, I put a backing and probably 50 yards of 50 lb braid on it. But yeah it could be deeper
10 yard = roughly ~30 feet. So significant.
loop your throws for further distance

Instead degrease the bearings and use synthetic reel oil trust me
I did it with my abu pro max and was shocked how far it went I took73steps and wear a size 12shoe that's over 140feet
Only for replacement.
I wouldn't get the bearings
That reel stock is pretty freaking good.
Interesting but not sure in the value
THEY ARE NOT $20 SOME DOLLARS MOST ARE OVER $50
I purchased them from spool at a fishing expo and I only paid $25-$30 for them. Can't remember the exact number
