So what do you guys think? Are the Spool Speed bearings legit or hype?
THE REEL TEST I was going to put them in my Curado DC but after watching this video I probably won’t bother. Unless the bearings on the Curado DC are not high end. In my opinion they’re worth the money. Just my opinion though.

Any reel over 250$ should be great on its own without the help of these bearings. I may put them in and try them in my abu revo sx though. Also the noise these berrings makes kills the soothing sound of the dc whine.

Enjoy the Scorpion Adam! I will tell you that if you are looking for more casting distance from the Metanium, it may not be the case. The only difference is the weight and ergonomics. My Scorpion seems a little smoother and more solid on the retrieve than the Metanium as well. Thought Id share that with you before you go spending $400-$500

Found similar with mid-high end Shimano BC's. Cleaned and lubed with thin oil, they will outperform other bearings, unless you go and buy top quality, very expensive ones.
I tried HH Studio Air bearings (ceramic hybrid, smaller balls than normal bearings that size, over 35 bucks a pair) in a Chronarch Ci4+, which comes with S-ARB's stock. Result was marginally improved casting distance and ease with light lures around 5-7g. No improvements with "normal" sized lures. Fishing them in a 2015 Aldebaran 50 now, where they serve the lighter end of 3-7g lures well, with the same marginally better casting results.
Would LOVE to see bearings wars, where you compare a lot of the popular choices. Stock, HH, Boca and these tested ones.

I just received today a Casitas MGL and the spool bearings in this JDM reel is super top-notch compared to the US Shimano reel bearings. I remember you mentioning that on one of your other videos. These A-RB JDM bearings blow the Speed Spool bearings away by a mile too. I'm considering getting these A-RB bearings to put in my SLX and my regular Casitas if it doesn't have it already. The spool on this Casitas MGL without line keeps spinning a looong time just spinning it with my thumb. I want to thank you for your informative videos!! They are instrumental in helping me decide which reel to purchase. Thanks again. Keep up the good work!!
I put the Spool Speed Bearings in my Curado 300 EJ and it’s like night and day the difference, and about the how loud they are... yes but for some weird reason I like how they sound, it’s definitely one of my favorite reels now specially for fishing for Calico bass. I recommend them for lower end/old reels for sure!

i just purchased this same reel as well as the bearings. had been curious about the dc reels for a while, and figured since i live in japan, why not just go ahead and pick one up. still getting used to it vs my lews tor pro g's, but so far, i like it. wasnt a fan of my zillion sv/tw, so sold that and picked up the scorpion. will probably hold of on swapping the bearings out until they start to wear out.

I just purchased some and put them in a chronarch 200 E it is nice. Ceramics bearings are loud if you run them dry. Put the cover on and lube them then they will run quieter. Bocas are the same thing but cost more. Everyone has their own opinion. I wouldnt change bearings in a high end reel unless they give out on me, but that is just me.
I just bought some BNT3627 factory bearings from Shimano USA and it was over $16 each!! I plan on putting them in my SLX and Casitas. These are the ones used in the JDM reels. S-ARB bearings.

I think that other benefit will be casting lighter lures, maybe you should do the test with stock and high speed at diferent lure weights
Love the SARB's and thought equal to if not a little better than the abec 7 bocas i have. I use a set of Bocas abec 7 in my Curado I and at least seemed give extra distance and just seemed smoother spin and faster above the lower quality standard stock non sarb bearings. Also I gotta say i still love the curado I even with the older braking. Never any problems with mine, casts great still. Fits nice for a bigger profile rod if you like a little larger more square shape reel palm.

Guess he took my advice, I admire his passion for his product but not his attitude about people’s opinion on them. I was actually gonna try them on my scorpion DC I just got in but after this I doubt I will. He should’ve tried to rectify the problem instead of losing some potential customers. Had he done that I still would’ve tried them on my Curado K. Appreciate the video man! Keep the truthies coming!!!
I always suggest people try things out for themselves. In this case the bearings were a detriment considering the caliber of reel the Scorpion DC is.

manzokazi yea mine too and my 14 year old daughter skips docks with the Scorpion DC she licked it for skipping but myself I don’t like DC reels, most people couldn’t even use my reels because I usually have only you brake on and spool tension knob backed way off
I have tried every hybrid bearing there is and I like the Spool Speed the best, the way the bearing sits back in there and bearings are smaller and doesn’t take as much force to start the bearing

OK! And how that applies in real world? You get better distance (if yes what are the numbers), easier to pitch/flip?For me HH Air bearings are the best, very quite, balls are small enough for initial spool force to work even with BFS baits.
Me personally think & feel like if the makers of that reel wanted high speed bearings they would've made them that way in the first place.. I personally love the reel & how it originally was made.. but I also have never been a tinker kinda guy I am more of the bam bam 🤣🤣🤣 kinda guy.. but another great video my guy, I love ya content..
I put in a set of speed spool bearings in my neew slx and they made the retrieve rough and the casting distance did not really improve all that much. If anything I get more backlashes with them casting the TRD Crawz on the 1/15th leadhead. I'm gonna put back the stock bearings.
I fish mostly 3/8 and up and I have seen a great difference and quite happy with the reels I have put them in

If it helps any I have the 17 And went with it over the 21. For a few reasons.. The 17 has one more bearing where the 21 does not and capable of more. The 17 has a bearing on the end of the handle / gear shaft where the 21 does not. They both can improve with a bearing on the gear end of the worm screw. And they both only come with one bearing in each knob. And the inner one is a bushing. I upgraded my 17 dc to have 10/1 bearing configuration instead of 7/1. Added one in each knob and one on worm screw. Also you can use micro gears in the 17 from the curado mgl 70k. They're same. It's smaller and feels better than 21 but other than that pretty much the same. Basically only difference would be the tiny difference in spool capacity. But you can get a mint used 17 for around 135-175 shipped. The 17 still costs significantly more buying it new over the 21. So I went with it and haven't regretted it. I'm waiting on my micro gears now can't wait to try it.

I noticed on mine that after a few days on the water the bearings got better and better
I have had these in both my Curado E and now in my Curado J's... So smooth. But, I'd never mess with a DC Shimano reel: other than a thorough clean and regrease. It "may" not cast farther under certain circumstances, but I can barely flick my Curado K's onto any target far easier than with flushed, non S-RB's. I wouldn't dare replace my MGL S-RB's
Lmao the way the company was responding to people on here just made me not consider them anymore.
Even the JDM SLX has the SA-RB bearings! They cost around $12 each whereas the bearing for the US model SLX costs only $4.94 according to Shimano.
The only reason I wanted to change the bearings was because the stock ones make a grinding noise, not for casting distance. I guess these aren’t going to solve that problem!
That’s my favorite reel on the market. Wish I could afford one :(

Great video! I'm surprised by the results. I did install the bearings in the reel with Shimano's bantam oil but a day later I ordered their "Spool Hi-Speed Hyper-Speed Ceramic Lubricant.
When I installed the spool speed bearings I used the Shimano bantam oil that comes in the box. The spool would spin longer then the stock bearings. Once the Spool Hi-Speed Hyper-Speed Ceramic Lubricant came in the mail, I flushed out the spool-hi speed bearings and used 1 drop of their ceramic lubricant and it was a world of difference, it would even longer then the bantam oil. It might make a difference if you tried it with their special ceramic lubricant?
Perhaps, but you have to realize, the lure is only in the air for 4-6 seconds tops.. so the spool spinning for 2 hours wont matter.
Makes sense. It would be interesting to see if it helps a non DC reel. To make it interesting I'm sending you their special ceramic oil. Maybe see if how the Curado performs with stock bearings, then spoolhi speed without oil and with oil?
Scorpio76688 Our lubricant makes a difference in the sound for those that like it quiet but it really does not increase the speed of the bearing from dry.

1. If you actually thought that your bearings were going to just blow out the stock shimano S-ARBs even when a set of $50 japanese bearings couldnt then I dont know what to tell you.
2. You set yourself up for criticism and customer disappointment with your smoke and mirrors "casting all the line off" videos. When people buy your bearings and dont get even close to
casting all the line off with regular lures in normal fishing situations thats not my fault. YOUR videos are exactly why so many people wanted ME to test your bearings. And yes I
understand the marketing aspect of those types of videos.
3. This video was not a personal attack at your company. This was a personal request from a subscriber who knows that I do THE most detailed and transparent cast testing on youtube bar

4. I never said anything to the likes of "these bearings are trash, dont buy them." I only reported my results and experiences, the good(casted better than i thought they would, much cheaper
in price than stock replacement bearings and competitor bearings) and bad(did not really increase distance overall, and lost distance in auto mode, loud, and not as smooth as the stock
bearings).

I feel these speed spool bearings could have benefited from a drop of oil assuming that would take care of the noise. I have some very high end oil for racing remote control cars that a company called rc speed secrets sells. Ive used it in an old curado 100 and a calais and have picked up a lot of frees pool time. I do own a scorpion DC that I am very happy with but trying to understand the line modes more to get some extra distance when throwing something in the 3/16-1/4oz weight on on the number 2 setting. I thought in one of your videos you mentioned in braid mode it seemed to cast the furthest?
I noticed that some US market reels like the Curado K also come equipped with the SA-RB bearings as well. Do you think that they are different from the ones used in the JDM reels? Thinking of getting these and putting them in my SLX if they are the same.
I wonder how those speed spool bearings would work in the xf50? Do you know what size bearings the xf50 uses?
I think they are the same sizes as Abu Garcia but Im not sure. I am sure that id get a set of $10 chinese orange seal bearings before I get these.

I have spool speed bearings on a aby pro max and a tatula ct and I've seen enough difference that I'm convinced. Maybe try them out on a reel with lower quality bearings.
Im not surprised at all. A set of cheap $10 chinese hybrid ceramics increased casting distance on my Casitas by about 10 ft. go check out the video.
Ive been tossing around doing my steez svtw..watching the videos he has up, one of them is of the steez and he emptied the spool with smaller diameter line then me..i can not empty the spool on my aldebaran steez metanium fuego..none of them..🤔🤔

THE REEL TEST lol....all of that i dont know...my whole point was i can not empty my spool on my steez and im using 16 lbs sunline sniper with a 1/4or1/2 oz rattle trap..so when i see his spool empty out it makes me think...dont get me wrong my steez can sent it but as a shore fisherman every little bit helps..

I would like to suggest using a jerk bait with hooks to test. As a jerk bait with hooks will have more air resistance than a casting plug in its flight, the results may vary.
actually jerkbaits are some of the most inconsistent lures to cast. They tumble very easy
THE REEL TEST, indeed. We don't cast casting plugs while fishing. The DC is designed to cast lures in tough windy condition to eliminate backlash plus that extra distance. I've seen Japanese testers doing such test as well on DC reels vs non DC. The outcome is very surprising with different lures. DC reel lost in performance in real fishing condition during the test.
I haven't seen a tester doing test w different bearings on DC reel while fishing.
Anglers don't buy these bearings just to cast plugs. They would go fishing with them. Surely I believe you would agree w me in this.
Such a test would definitely be much clearer in helping consumer to decide to buy or not to buy these hybrid bearings for fishing at the waters.

I always think about the videos of the line coming all the way off. Brakes have to be off, spool tension must be all the way off too. Trey harpel said somewhere that these are alibaba bearings that are sold in bulk for about 20 cents to a dollar per bearing.
I dont think they are quite that cheap, but i do know where to buy bearings in bulk from China.

why do this test on a $400-$500 reel? why not try them on a @100 reel instead. then u might see a difference. part of the cost for the high end reels ARE the bearings.

yes Sir, I know u did this as a test for a subscriber but still stick with my comment. as u well know a large part of the cost of the Shimano high end stuff are the bearings. having owned a number of the higher end Shimanos, I knew part of what i was paying for was MUCH better bearings. anyway, no knock on ur testing, love it and have been a subscriber for a while. keep up the great work
Maybe a better place for this answer would have been to the "are they hype" or not.
Thats what I was thinking. I think the Spool Speed bearings are really nice but you can't expect them to do much better than the bearings in that reel. I think $200 and below reels see a pretty big difference.
at the end i said i was going to put them in my old Curado I and see what happens.

First off, why test these bearings in an already super high performing reel with a DC system? I have these bearings in Metaniums and Steez's and I dont always dump the spool, but they do help with the ease of casting, pitching, flipping, etc.

line counters are pretty inaccurate, I have one. I would look into the new Shimano Pitbull 12 strand braid.. looks pretty slick. Looks to be a perfect match for that Exsence
Actually there are nothing difference between High Speed bearing and Stock Bearing with high end reel,i test it on my Daiwa Zillion Tw HD,Abu Garcia Revo SLC ib8,there nothing difference except lousy bearing noice😅but if test it on cheap reel there do have difference between stock and high speed bearing,cast distance was improved with high speed bearing🤗
You said that shimano has some high end bearings in the more expensive reels. So I don't think it's a good comparison to put them in a high end DC reel. The shimano DC reels have their limits. I think a variety of different reels would be more accurate and effective put that would be a lot of bearings to purchase. To really put them to the test try a lower end shimano reel with stock bearings and then change with high end shimano bearings. Then test the speed spool bearings. Can't wait to see the second update testing video! Also a tip is not to run the bearings dry.

well if you listened the first time you would know that this is the reel the subscriber specifically sent me the bearings to test. Im fully aware of how to run bearings as Ive done several tests on them and have several sets of bearings as well as several DC reels. If you want the tests done a certain way, nobody is stopping you from doing them yourself. But its alot easier to suggest what to do when its not your time and effort being used huh?

Dont worry Isiah, when I do the next test for these bearings they are going to be on a Curado I and both bearings will have shields and be lubed.

There are bearings out there that are better than what shimano puts in the reel no matter of the quality of the reel. Soparro, YT Fusion and hedgehog studios to name a few. I have my reels supertuned and there is a noticeable difference between high end bearings and stock. Bocca bearings are not good bearings and I doubt these are either.

Can you use Aliexpress.com? I'd get the full ceramic bearings instead of the hybrids. All my reels (Except the Curado DC) have been upgraded with 100% ceramic bearings and the difference is noticeable. Also direct from China for the same quality is cheaper, so far that I've found.

Abec rating doesn’t mean anything when it comes to a reel. That’s now what the abec is tested for
Why? Why buy a nice fast reel just to tune it up more for what? Most casting dont need to go that far anyways especially for this type of fishing.
I put these in a tatula ct and they were not worth it. I saw little to no improvement between these and stock.

THE REEL TEST yeah I just put the spool bearing of my curado i in Nail polish remover for a couple of hours ,and now my curado spool (without line ) is spinning for almost 20 secs instead of the 10 secs it did before.

I gave the Spool Speed bearings every advantage, ran them no shields dry.. the results are the results! He is also making comments and deleting them before I can respond. Sounds like a company I would do business with... not.
He's come under fire before about these bearings. Sounds like they aren't all they're cracked up to be. Getting so defensive makes me think we're on the right track.
THE REEL TEST we have thousands of repeat orders. If your results are not satisfying, I’d like to take a look at your install. Why do we have thousands upon thousands of happy customers if we don’t have a great bearing? Give us another chance, maybe we can help you.
