That seed phrase is how your coins are tracked. Lose the seed phrase and you lose your coins. With Tangem, lose the cards and you lose your coins, because those house the seed phrase. The access codes protect the cards so that if one is stolen, and has an access code to protect it, then the stolen card cannot be used. If a thief tries to reset the access code, the app prompts for a second card from the originally generated wallet card set. If a thief tries to use a second card not from the originally generated set then the access code is not reset and the thief still cannot access the coins from the card wallet. The thief either needs to know the code, break the code, or have two cards from the same card wallet set to get to the coins. That is why you want to keep your cards all separated from each other so a thief cannot get two of the cards and use a strong access code. I would also say that if a card is stolen, you should probably get another set of cards, setup a new wallet with new access code, and transfer the coins from the first wallet to the new wallet on the new cards. This is because the only protection you have from the thief is the strength of the access code you set on the stolen card. It’s been a while since I setup and played with the cards, but I am pretty sure this is how all the details work. I did a lot of experimentation at the time.

You can prevent the user from resetting the access code in the device settings menu, if you try to forget wallet and reset the access code it will be say error and unable to reset from this card and force it to use the old access code

It is my understanding that you can reset the access code if you possess two of the cards. So in order to prevent anyone else from resetting the cards and gaining access, you must practice good, physical security. Keep your cards separated and hidden well. They are not able to reset the access code if they find one card. But if someone manages to find two cards in your card set, then it is possible. I have never confirmed this feature, but other people have told me that it’s in their support documentation. I’m not a big fan of this. I think it should be impossible to reset the access code. But too many people would lose access to their crypto, because most people are pretty careless and forget their codes. So they have included this feature.

Also, I think around the 2:19 mark in the video you misspoke by saying that changing the access code would reset the card. The card is not reset when changing the access code.

How does a user of a Tangem device know for 100% certantity that there is not some code (or other method) somewhere in the device or through the Tangem App that has recorded the creation of 'seed phrases' that can then one day in the future (even after many years) be accessed to drain any money in all the linked accounts?
The real question is what if you need to migrate to another wallet if tangem goes bankrupt or stops supporting the app or if nfc technology dissapears in the future. Not your keys not your money. And in this case you don't know what the keys are!

In addition to the response from CryptoDad, I would add that you can create a wallet by importing a seedphrase. You can use something like Ian Coleman’s BIP39 utility to create a 12 or 24 word seedphrase from random entropy such as die rolls or coin tosses. If you do that, be sure to run the tool offline and do not save the seedphrase on the computer. I use a usb live distribution of a minimal Linux OS to do such things with the internet access turned off.

A Major issue with this tech is What if the nfc chip on the cards malfunctions? How do we know they will actually last 25 years .. let alone 1-2 years.. there is always a risk it could become defective. depends: if you travel a lot then seedphrase is huge security risk. If you have access to a safe or bank deposit bank then you are in a better position however still a huge risk if someone gets their eyes on it, your assets are gone in an instant.

Yes, if you forget your access code the recovery process asks for a seconds card from your backup set and lets you input a new access code. That's why you should never store 2 (or 3) cards together. You can deactivate this option if you wish but you'll probably lock yourself out more likely than thwart a potential crypto thief.

The biggest difference between version 1 and version 2 is that version 2 has an optional seed phrase. This means that you can back up the wallet with a seed phrase in case something happens to your entire card set. Version one relies solely on the cards for backup. If you lose all three cards, then you lose any crypto that you have stored in the wallet.

There is no way to do this. Once you have set up the card without the seed phrase, there is no way to add it or extract it. What you will need to do is transfer your crypto somewhere else and reset the card. Only this time, set it up as new and use the seed phrase option. That was not my experience... when I first set up my Tangem wallet and chose the no seed phrase option, right after setting it all up, I changed my mind and wanted to do it with a recovery seed phrase. So I did a full reset like you say, but when I went to make a new wallet the 2nd time around, that time it never even asked me if I wanted a seed phrase, it just went straight to the step of scanning the cards to the new wallet, without a seed phrase option. So once I chose no seed phrase the first initial time, I was stuck with only that option going forward, even after completely resetting everything and making a brand new wallet.

Regarding your second point about resetting the card, it absolutely is possible to put the cards back into new factory condition and recreate a new wallet with a seedphrase upon wallet creation. I tested this extensively when I got my cards.
How the heck did you get the card to be recognized by the phone so quickly? Every time I scan the card it takes multiple tries and timeouts before it recognizes my card.
Practice makes perfect. When I do an operation that requires the card, I wait a beat... then I bring the card to the back of the phone, perfectly parallel and I line up the top of the card with the top of the phone. Hold it steady for another beat... and then I feel the hepatics of the phone click. Then I continue to hold it there until I get the success pop-up. After a while, you will just do this without thinking.
Hold the card closer to the top of the phone rather than the middle or bottom. The antenna has very short range and is located at the top of the phone. That should help.
Strange … I had contacted TANGEM team in DEC and they wrote that I could not use more than 1 set of cards with 1 phone / app. Apparently, it does work to use multiple sets of cards per phone, as you show in this video. I must have gotten it wrong, or the TANGEM team member misunderstood my question?

That reset process will actually reset the entire card. So in order to regain access to the wallet, you would need to have a12/24 backup phrase written down.

This wallet needs some serious improvements! 1. If you choose to setup your wallet with seed phrase, it should not let you access your wallet on another phone just by scanning the card and using an access code! In this case, the seed phrase has no security feature anymore and is only used for recovering your wallet if you lose all cards associated with a certian wallet! (Better than nothing, but still). 2. Why the hell is using the “forgot access code” erasing the existing wallet and making a brand new empty one? This mistake could be done so easily by people who are new to the crypto hardware wallets! It should instead ask some previously answered questions during setup of the wallet? 3. Using a wrong or misspelled passphrase (if you chose to set up the wallet with passphrase) should not erase existing wallet and replace it with a new empty one! This is just stupid! Yes, if you forget your access code the recovery process asks for a seconds card from your backup set and lets you input a new access code. That's why you should never store 2 (or 3) cards together.
You can deactivate this option if you wish but you'll probably lock yourself out more likely than thwart a potential crypto thief.

The biggest difference between version 1 and version 2 is that version 2 has an optional seed phrase. This means that you can back up the wallet with a seed phrase in case something happens to your entire card set. Version one relies solely on the cards for backup. If you lose all three cards, then you lose any crypto that you have stored in the wallet.
So in an extreme case of losing the 3 cards with the seeds, can I get my funds again?!@@CryptoDad

There is no way to do this. Once you have set up the card without the seed phrase, there is no way to add it or extract it. What you will need to do is transfer your crypto somewhere else and reset the card. Only this time, set it up as new and use the seed phrase option. That was not my experience... when I first set up my Tangem wallet and chose the no seed phrase option, right after setting it all up, I changed my mind and wanted to do it with a recovery seed phrase. So I did a full reset like you say, but when I went to make a new wallet the 2nd time around, that time it never even asked me if I wanted a seed phrase, it just went straight to the step of scanning the cards to the new wallet, without a seed phrase option. So once I chose no seed phrase the first initial time, I was stuck with only that option going forward, even after completely resetting everything and making a brand new wallet.
@@Andrew-mk7rmYou’re talking about two different things. CryptoDad is correct that once the cards are setup if the seedphrase option was not selected then it cannot be extracted from the card.
Regarding your second point about resetting the card, it absolutely is possible to put the cards back into new factory condition and recreate a new wallet with a seedphrase upon wallet creation. I tested this extensively when I got my cards.

How the heck did you get the card to be recognized by the phone so quickly? Every time I scan the card it takes multiple tries and timeouts before it recognizes my card.
Practice makes perfect. When I do an operation that requires the card, I wait a beat... then I bring the card to the back of the phone, perfectly parallel and I line up the top of the card with the top of the phone. Hold it steady for another beat... and then I feel the hepatics of the phone click. Then I continue to hold it there until I get the success pop-up. After a while, you will just do this without thinking.
Hold the card closer to the top of the phone rather than the middle or bottom. The antenna has very short range and is located at the top of the phone. That should help.

Strange … I had contacted TANGEM team in DEC and they wrote that I could not use more than 1 set of cards with 1 phone / app. Apparently, it does work to use multiple sets of cards per phone, as you show in this video. I must have gotten it wrong, or the TANGEM team member misunderstood my question?
They must have, because I have been using my app to manage three separate card sets for months now. It definitely works. I can't speak to what the person at Tangem support told you. I can only believe my "lying" eyes.
I have had a problem with my Tangem card. My face recognition didn’t work 3 times in a row and I was blocked. I then scanned one of my back up cards and was taken to a 0 balance wallet?? My face recognition wallet has disappeared, really, really concerned with this

What are the iOS/Android technical requirements to use Tangem cards?
You can use any mobile device with an Android operating system higher than 6.0 or iOS 14.5 and higher with full NFC support, except iPhone 6/6s and iPhone SE (1st generation).
Please note that iPhone 7/7 Plus and some Android models do not have full NFC support, which means you cannot transfer the required amount of information during activation. In this case, making a backup of a private key on your phone is not available. You can, however, use any other phone (iPhone 8 and up or Android 6.0+ with full NFC support) to create a backup and then continue using your device.
On devices with custom firmware installed (not modified by the manufacturer), the correct operation of the app is not guaranteed.
If your card is stolen, look as though you can select the assess and re-enter a different assess code on a new phone?! Then your cryptos are stolen?
That reset process will actually reset the entire card. So in order to regain access to the wallet, you would need to have a12/24 backup phrase written down.

This wallet needs some serious improvements!
1. If you choose to setup your wallet with seed phrase, it should not let you access your wallet on another phone just by scanning the card and using an access code! In this case, the seed phrase has no security feature anymore and is only used for recovering your wallet if you lose all cards associated with a certian wallet! (Better than nothing, but still).
2. Why the hell is using the “forgot access code” erasing the existing wallet and making a brand new empty one? This mistake could be done so easily by people who are new to the crypto hardware wallets! It should instead ask some previously answered questions during setup of the wallet?
3. Using a wrong or misspelled passphrase (if you chose to set up the wallet with passphrase) should not erase existing wallet and replace it with a new empty one! This is just stupid!
