I’m glad you brought up security of generating a seed phrase. I heard someone say you should put your phone in airplane mode (essentially disabling WiFi) during seed phrase generation. It makes sense that if your phone already has malware on it, air gapping would not help if the malware physically resides on the phone - if it is only resident in the phone’s memory, shutting down, waiting, and restarting ‘should’ clear it.
I practice safe browsing, keep the OS up to date, screen any app I install (Apple is better than Google in screening apps they allow in the App Store), periodically check all apps installed to ensure nothing snuck in, run a VPN, prohibit app tracking, restrict sharing, and am mindful of any unusual phone behavior - battery use, data use, physical phone storage, etc.
Am I missing anything obvious?
Excellent video! What's interesting is that I do recall an interview with some of the Tangem folks (forget who exactly). In that interview, he mentioned that seed phrases pose so many problems, which I believe is why Tangem originally went seedphrase-less. It's basically which of the following is the lesser of two evils:
1) Lose all of your Tangem cards.
2) Lose access to your seed phrase (or it gets stolen).
Thanks!
Tangem’s whole thing is that someone can steal your seed phrase.
My thing is that if your store you seed phrase properly and don’t share it online, you don’t have to worry about it being stolen.
For me, it’s more inconvenient to NOT have a seed phrase.
But I know how to manage my seed phrase. Most noobs don’t.
Thank you for your work
As always, thanks for watching!
Great job
Good video. I used the import wallet method with the passphrase. I put my phone on airplane mode when entering my seed phrase and pass phrase. Then I turned the Wi-Fi back to finish the set up process. It only took a few minutes.
Nice! You can do that without issues (to your point) but it doesn’t do much if anything in terms of security.
@@cyberscrilla Just gives me a better comfort level. I also used a VPN but I agree with you if the phone has malware it won’t help.
If you lose your seed phrase but still have all your Tangem cards can you still retrieve all your cryptos on the Tangem app??? Please help
Great videos. If i set up my tangem wallet with the random number generator, can you change over to seed phrase or do you need to buy new cards?
You mean you set it up without a seed phrase?
If that’s the case, it’s easiest to just buy new cards, create a wallet with a seed phrase, and transfer your crypto to the new wallet.
I have a query about importing a seed phrase. Given your vocal opinion on Ledger at the moment with their essential ability to backdoor the Ledger Wallets and acquire a persons seed phrase, Importing my Ledger Seed phrase into a Tangem wallet would essentially mean that both of those hardware devices would have the same seed phrase assigned to them, would it not? So if Ledger did decide to do something dodgy, not saying they would, but it would mean that it compromises my Tangem too?
You are correct!
Thanks for the vids - I'm learning a lot! I have a Tangem wallet but chose to set up without creating a seed phrase. Can I go back and set up a seed phrase now? Also, are the biometrics (facial recognition) used to log in when you have a seed phrase or do you enter the seed phrase each time to log in? Thanks again for your work.
The only way you can set up a seed phrase now would be to factory reset your cards.
WARNING: if you have crypto on your current “seedless” Tangem wallet, you don’t want to do this as you’d lose all your crypto.
Best option would be to buy new Tangem cards, set up with a seed phrase, and transfer crypto from your current Tangem wallet to your new wallet.
Only once you’ve got all your crypto off your seedless Tangem wallet can you safely reset it.
Another reason why I like the seed phrase option over seedless.
@@cyberscrilla thanks for the reply - much appreciated. I'll look to get some new Tangem cards and transfer my BTC to them (maybe give the old cards to the kids to start them on their journey!) Thanks again 👍
You can do that
Are you sure if you loose access to the application while your seedprase was automatically generated by the app; you will still get your crypto back ? It means app gone crypto gone if automatic key is generated. Or am getting it wrong
A seed phrase can be imported into nearly any wallet. So yes, you can easily recover your crypto.
Crypto isn’t stored on the wallet or in the app, it’s stored on the blockchain.
Thus if you have your seed phrase (the key to your wallet), you’re good.
Thanks for the video.
I have new Tangem wallet and I would like to create 24 seed phrases + Pass Phrase.
Going with "Generate seed phrase" option will not give the possibility to create the pass phrase. and going with "import wallet" will not generate the 24 seed phrases for me. Any tips or recommended step-by-step video how to generate the 24 seed phrases to enter them in "import wallet", then I can add my pass phrase?
Currently, you can’t create a passphrase, you can only import an existing one.
But you can still generate a new 24 word seed phrase by tapping “generate seed phrase”.
That said, once the option to create a passphrase is released (in a simple app update) you will likely be able to add a passphrase to your existing 24 word phrase.
But I’m not sure when it will be released.
@@cyberscrilla Is the following an accurate list of the wallets that support a passphrase currently?
1)Trezor
2) Ledger
3) SecuX
Safepal, Keystone, Onekey are some more I know of off the top of my head
I just looked and Tangem has discontinued their white Tangem cards. Good thing I got them while they lasted!
More colors coming soon 😉
What’s the likelihood of the chips to stop working? NFC failure/damage etc
Not likely. The card and chips are made to last 25 years minimum
If I generate my ledger seed phrase first can I still go back and generate a new tangem seed phrase in the future?
You can create as many seed phrases as you want
Besides factory reset is there an app to see if you have malware
as it installs malware..
Regarding the seed phrase, I bought the metal stamp version to record the seed phrase. It's rather difficult to stamp all the letters in each word. Is there a minimum number of letters you need to have or do you have to have the entire word?
It’s minimum letters. Because you only need a few letters to know the whole word
@@cyberscrilla Yes, im wondering how many letters I need though. If I stamp too few, then it's not a unique "word" and will cause issues. Too many letters is hard to stamp. Is there some minimum number which uniquely defines the word?
The bilfodl metal plating only requires you to do the first 4 letters of each word, so that maybe?
How is the seed phrase secure if it is generated on your phone which is or has been connected to the internet?
Where is the air gap
How is this any different to a hot wallet set up
Thanks
Hot wallets store your seed/private key in the software. Tangem stores your private key on the card (offline).
The app only generates it, it’s not stored on the app or your phone.
“The wallet’s software selects 12 or 24 random words from a wordlist containing 2048 words based on the BIP39 seed phrase standard.
The software converts the chosen string of words into a binary seed, which it uses to generate a set of private keys and public address pairings.
The private keys are then uploaded and stored on the Tangem cards.”
if I already set up the wallet without the seed phrase, can I still reverse that and do a seed phrase?
If you haven’t put crypto on it, just do a factory reset and set it up again using the seed phrase.
Otherwise you have to transfer your crypto off the wallet first, then factory reset
I have the older tangem cards,The seed phrase is only optional on the new cards am i correct?
That’s correct 👍 Definitely worth upgrading in my opinion
Thank you,yes i need to upgrade.thanks for the videos.
If I import my ledger to tangem due to ledger not being safe they give out info to third parties how do I shut down my ledger and only use tangem so I won’t be at risk
The best option here is to create a new wallet and send your crypto to it. You can’t shut down a wallet
@@cyberscrilla okay I have some meme coins that I should be able to import token on tangem thanks for all the help and insight wish me luck my tangem wallet is on the way

If i have a new phone with nfc and i transfer data to new phone from old phone and old phone has malware or some other virus or something unknown to me can that be transfered to new phone ? What should i do if i have the new tangem cards and have nfc on phone , do it not do a data tranfer and just manually set up new phone with current sim card or is the sim from old phone also corrupted ? i do not know if i have malware on old phone but would rather be safe than sorry , as the new phone does have my coinbase app on it and cb always wants to verify the device everytime i log in saying it does not reconize the device but i very raley log into bc with phone because idk if its corrupted but when i do my account is still good . so if my old phome is clean and i put sim from old to new phone the trans data then set up tangem wallet create seed then take all my stuff off exchanges onto new tangem cards with seed i should be all good ? please advice as i still new to this stuff and do not have tech confidance or savvy lol i watched every vid and hasetate with hd wallets cold storage because all i have is a phone and have not set up any wallets because by the time i comprehend how to do so a new wallet comes out with upgraded tech like tangem with seed phrase and trezor 3 , i habe trezor 1 base model and first gen tangem too
Malware typically requires specific conditions or vulnerabilities to operate, which might not exist on the new phone.
Also, data transfer methods usually involve transferring user-generated data rather than executable files, making it less likely for malware to transfer.
Most importantly, make sure you’re using the official Tangem app and you should be good!
@@cyberscrilla cool bro thanks , i dont know what i dont know so im learning all i can , i was not sure , i know new phome would be ok but didnt want to transfere data and corrupt new phone , im gonna use your code ro get new tangem cards too thanks again

How to add wallet with old card?????
You can’t. You need the new cards
The Bad thing is that the V1 card does not allow seed phrase
Well yeah, they didn’t offer a seed phrase back then. Just get the new card if you want a seed phrase.
If I import my wallet from from leidger to Tangem can I still use my ledger??
Yes.
You can import a seed phrase into as many wallets as you want and still use each wallet with that same seed phrase.
@@cyberscrilla that’s great then thank you!
@@cyberscrilla did u soggiest to have only one seed phrase or more?
More is better. Especially when it comes to cold storage. You shouldn’t use your dedicated cold storage wallet to connect to dapps and random websites.
Otherwise you risk getting drained via a phishing link.

@@cyberscrilla did I need Eth to transfer my usd or usd tether I still don’t know how to figure it out
Too bad Tangem couldn't bring the 'with or without' seed phrase options together by just briefly flashing the generated seed phrase during set-up and allow the user to make a copy before it is erased. CombiningTangem's functional security with an optional external copy for peace of mind.
IMHO, losing all your Tangem cards as likely as losing all the copies of seed phrase. And making lots of copies of your seed phrase increases the likelihood that someone else might find it
While that may be true, my point still stands.
The cards are tech - which will EVENTUALLY fail. Or a fire could destroy them.
Whereas a metal seed phrase plate will last a lifetime and is more resistant to various elements.
Also, if you want to use a different wallet with your same seed phrase you can’t - because you don’t know it.
I just don’t feel comfortable holding massive amounts on a card I don’t have the seed phrase for
Or at the very least can create more than 3 backups. But that’s just my preference.
To each their own.
I still use the seedless (1.0) wallet too. But I don’t hold as much crypto on it.
Cards can fail, break etc. Don’t act stupid. It’s the same as ur bank card. U can break it and lose access.
EXACTLY, tech is bound to fail eventually. However, I will say Tangem cards are much more durable than any bank card I’ve used.
Definitely the most durable wallet on the market.
@@Rains-in losing all 3 cards are less likely than losing a few pieces of paper. I agree writing the seed phrase on a metal plate is important
@@1rjona first time you’ve heard of steel plates?
I don’t think people consider the vulnerability of the seed phrase enough.
Most will store it on paper which can be destroyed, lost, or smeared/damaged.
Even if you use a metal plate it can still be lost. You could have multiple seed plates but now you’ve just increased the chance of someone discovering them.
Because all anyone needs to do is see your seed phrase for you to loose everything. That would cause a lot of stress (for me at least). It could happen whenever because you are always vulnerable to that weakness.
I understand that not having access to the seed phrase makes recovery impossible. But it also makes stealing the crypto with the seed phrase also impossible.
Now you just need to protect your Tangem cards which is no different than protecting your metal seed plate. I think seedless is better because few people will use three seed plates for redundancy and if they did it only increases the chance someone can steal your crypto when they see your phrase.
I think the compromise is having the seed phrase plus a phrase only you know but this is currently only available via import not creation on Tangem (if I understood you correctly).
Is my logic wrong?
If you aren’t responsible enough to safely guard your seed phrase, you should not be in crypto. Seedless method is insane. If anything happens to your cards, your money is gone.
My logic: You’re relying on tech vs a solid piece of metal.
Tech fails. Metal lasts many lifetimes. For me, I will always go the seed phrase route.
If stored properly and not left out in the open, the fear of someone finding your seed phrase is eliminated.
You’re correct, Tangem only allows importing a hidden wallet currently.
Hi.... Still Tangem is not supporting ICP. Kindly Guide.
As mentioned many times before. This is on their timeline to release sometime in May/June
@@cyberscrilla Thanks......
I dont trust Keyboard app for not being recording our seed phrase, tangem should not use system keyboard.
??
I encountered an issue with tagem cards importing seed pharse from a different hardware wallet. Here it goes. I set up 2 tangem cards by importing seed phrase with passphrase from safepal hardware wallet. All good. Then I tried to factory reset the '2' tangem cards, and whilsr doing so, it looks for a 3rd card to scan before it will finish the factory reset. I guess it's looking for the "wallet-the safepal" to scan . This can't be done as the wallet does not work on safepal (NFC). this is an issue if anyone tries this and finds it to be proven. I found another issue with tangen cards using 1 card version1 with another one as a backup but version 2. or vice versa. hhmm...??
Yes tangem has been garbage so far for me. I cant see to make an address to put certain coins that it accepts on it
What do you mean?

I'd suggest using a dedicated phone for this purpose. You could factory reset your old iPhone or pick up an inexpensive Android device.
Sure. It’s not necessary in my experience. But if you have one laying around, it doesn’t hurt.
Keep in mind Samsungs only provide security updates for 2-3 years. Make sure you don’t get a phone too old

Idk about that. I agree seed phrases are not the future though.
I would never type a hardware seed phrase on a phone.
Then this wallet isn’t for you.
LoL
unless the tangem company closes down.
That means nothing? A seed phrase can be imported into any almost brand wallet.

All your comments are still above so I’m not sure what you’re talking about..
Also, whoever told you that Tangem’s seed phrase isn’t compatible with other wallets is lying.
Seed phrases aren’t specific to a wallet brand. Most wallets use BIP39 standard:
Ledger
Metamask
Trezor
Tangem
Onekey
ELLIPAL
Keystone
Safepal
Etc
It’s common knowledge
Doesn’t mean all wallets will support the same crypto though
