  • Riders welcome back to Sam's Bikes, where you know we only talk E-bikes and in today's video its all about the Specialized Levo alloy öhlins coil ltd and this review is a little bit different because my good friend Julian just bought the Levo, so we review it but most importantly we talk about WHY he bought which I think is super interesting.
We would like to thank our amazing sponsors, Schwalbe, Quad Lock, Crankbrothers, and Topeak, for making this possible. And we would like to express our gratitude to each and every rider for their support.

Hey Sam, great review. It would be good to also see how you tune the coil shock, as there aren't too many with a good level of detail. I've just swapped to a coil and dialing it is a little different to an air shock, feel etc.

You are legend, Sam :) I guess the most important is what you need your bike for. Let's say you don't need the expert model if you ride 90% of your time asphalt roads. Maybe it's good for people to know the real difference in performance between normal and most advanced models and what are they made for. Because I think for many people's needs normal or comp model should be more than enough.

Another good E-Talk! I’ve done a couple of these with you and people do not appreciate how much work it takes! Thank you for that.
As far as the what you talked about, I have had 3 big crashes in the last 12 months and it’s very true that it’s hard to get your mojo back both mentally & physically. The older you get, the harder it is.
Saying one bike is better than another is mostly very subjective. However, I think that one can make the argument that the Gen3 is the all around best one. It’s an amazingly versatile bike that is infinitely configurable, there’s no disputing that it’s a good riding bike, it’s well packaged, and the service is near impossible to beat.

The most important part of buying a ebike has got to be budget. I'd imagine at least 80% of riders will be searching for the best deal and the other 20% can afford to be more fussy and can be mindful of geometry and spec for example

Great review! I became a Specialized fan due to customer service. Biggest issue for me is being able to ride every chance I get....without going weeks waiting for service. Rode Santa Cruz XC bike for years, still love it, but decided to try ebike, and bought a Levo Comp Carbon from LBS demo fleet....Loved the bike. Not long ago, did major derailleur damage (hanger bent/broke, derailleur swung around and put a gouge in seat stay). LBS called Specialized and they said they had the part to replace frame damage available if I didn't mind a slightly different shade of black. Had bike back in less than a week. (it helps that Specialized HQ is about 20 miles away). Was sufficiently impressed that I just bought the S-Works Levo T-Type.....but I'm keeping both bikes. I'm 64, need to get every ride in that I can!

Been a subscriber from the beginning and love every video! For me the most important consideration is after sales support. Specialized sets the bar when it comes to taking care of the customer and has gone to great lengths to ensure you get what you pay for. The best example I can give is when they had the problems with the sprag bearings and drive belts breaking on the gen 2 motors they doubled the warranty to 4 years giving owners confidence that they wouldn't be left hanging. They also have been upgrading the weakest links incrementally and have ended up with a robust and reliable motor that lets the rider just enjoy the ride.

Agree, warranty and turn round time is crucial with just one bike. Specialized just warrantied my Levo expert motor very quickly just in time for a trip away. Have added Hope Pro 5’s and V4 brakes. Love my Levo 👍

Couple of 2 wheel legends there 🍻 Key bike trait for me is a battery that wants a long hard ride - after 3 years and 10000+ km of battery anxiety on shimano ep8 630 wh batteries, the Bosch 750 wh sorts that out. 45+ km loops with 1500+ m climbing here we go…in emtb…and >25% left 💨

I bought the kenevo expert and I picked it for the same reasons as Julian.
    1, customer service/warranty
    2, motor and battery size
    3, supporting my local shop
And not to mention the bike is an absolute ripping machine 🔥⚡️⚡️⚡️
That Levo looks amazing with that colour scheme and forks 😎

It’s fantastic that Specialized chose to build this Limited Edition high spec in Alloy version. I’m an Alloy G3 Levo rider and my only complaint is that the alloy top spec is only Comp (until this). Some of us larger /heavier riders still want top gear options on an alloy version, especially on a full fat e-bike. The Levo alloy is a bomber bike especially when upgraded!

I'm TALL, 6'5"/ 250bs and I test road a bunch of eBikes. So for me, First, it's the overall fit and feel to make sure I don't feel like I'm going to destroy the bike with my size, Second, I really like the Eagle GX drivetrain, Third- Power. If I'm getting an eBike, I want something that can move my big butt around and still allow me to get rowdy. Conclusion- Just ordered the Turbo Levo Comp Alloy. And you better believe it that your last few videos helped me make that decision. Thanks for all the stats in those Shootouts. Great stuff. Thanks :)

As a woman in my fifties, the total weight of the bike will be a big factor for my next bike. I currently ride a Levo Alloy which I absolutely love but I struggle lifting it onto my bike rack and over fences, etc. I want a sub 20kg, full power, removable battery with option for a bottle cage extender. So far the Obea Rise ticks all the boxes but I’m holding out to see what Specialized comes out with for 2025.

Interesting video Sam and Julian. Had cause to use specialized care a couple of times recently on my levo comp carbon that's out of warranty. It's still great, but it's definitely not as fast as it was. Here in the UK it's at least 2 weeks for a major claim.
Still beats the hell out of others, especially Shimano.
As for canyon, and other direct sellers, really not convinced I want to try their after care

Checking in from New Zealand . At 100kg , 49 and a dodgy back, I look for geo. A high stack is really important for me. Otherwise I’m just bent over too far. High rise bars help. Second is the motor. I want to get up the hill with little effort so I can enjoy the downhill, if I get too stuffed the downhill gets sketchy. Last is just general feel. I like a poppy bike even though I still can’t really jump :). I looked at this specialized levo for myself but having to chain coils to suit my weight ( 708kg coil) just got me concerned so bought the total opposite ( levo alloy ) and upgraded parts :). Would love to win the tool kit . Love the channel.

I haven’t used a carbon bike and considering the alloy one sell over here has basic specs compared to carbon, I’m leaning more towards to carbon in this case, but just wondering if I should be worried about noise or durability or something else between the two

Also now we have a ebike service center close by on Gold Coast (Australia) I think serviceability of Brose would make it a major factor in decision of what to buy.

Mate, the merida broke due to me doing things a bit outside of what it was designed to do. I reckon the trek broke because one of the tiny bolts holding the motor to the aluminium plate that then bolts to the bike frame snapped and the motor was flapping around in the bike while I did my thang.

Regarding the comment on suspension set up- Ohlins 160 up front and cascade LT link w/ EXT coil out back. Not as poppy/playful as the stock expert build but I prefer it. It’s significantly more progressive, stable and capable. If I mostly
rode mellower/flatter trails, I’d keep it stock.

Dependability #1, a bike that has the most kinks worked out with serviceability in mind, long lasting motor and battery, also the best trail/enduro ride feel for me.

Most important when buying an Ebike 🤔.
Couldn't really pin it down to one thing.
Would have to be a combination of everything: Geometry, price, motor, spec.
Currently riding Orbea wild and loving it.

The most important thing, when purchasing an emtb, is the post warranty service. I have a Specialized Kenevo. Left it for a check in the local specialized consept store. They didnt fix it. In a result the motor and the cable, conecting the battery, burned. Now they say it is my fault, and want to charge me for a new mottor and cable full price. If they even bother to fix the bike.

Support and warranty. I dont think that any of the top-end e-bikes are bad bikes so it is the support that they offer esp if it is through your LBS.

My next emtb will be carefully researched and scrutinized with the focus being on….. Power to weight ratio. I am rocking my dream emtb now and feel that the only thing that would make it better is less weight. I don’t want to sacrifice FullFat power for any of the SL models yet. If Specialized could get the Kenevo SL in the 75nm range and not gain any weight…… Hello new bike and good by any chance of driving a car made in the last twenty years!

what height Julien(Julian) is?, you mentioned his previous bikes were size Ms; I never tested a Levo, cutting it short from every list due to its differences in size from the enduro S-sizes(enduro and kenevo SLs); my perfect reach is around 460; my current big bike is 470 and the M sized Levo is 455, which I feel is on the small size, all the while the eTT of the S4 seems to be a stretch to me; also, the WB of the S4 seems about right, while on the S3 seems to be a little trail-y; that's why I am asking about his height because yeah..maybe I should reconsider the Levo.

I had the ohlins specialized enduro edition. It never really felt that great! Maybe it was just me. I could never get the feeling I wanted out of the suspension. Always felt to soft and rode way far in the travel both front and rear. Even put the biggest springs on it possible! Again may be it was me.
