Owning a Ribble Ultra SLR, I can safely say them bikes are outrageous. I love mine, It makes me look forward to riding my bike again and going fast on it is simply smile inducing stuff!
Thanks for this! Great insight in the difference. Cost is decisive. I still have my 2009 Madone 4:7 as my main bike. I can’t justify about 5G and it’s the rider that makes the difference. Love the channel!
it's really cool that some of the very first "aero" bicycle innovations were made by the Wright Brothers. Not only did they further flight in the air, but on land as well.
I still want to see them upgrade the Eurobike (tubes, tires, saddle, chain?, index shifters, brake pads/ rotors) & see how it compares. Also with that cheap e-bike.
Even not upgraded, that awful unridable slug is 25 years of essential engineering innovation newer than 99% of what I see most people out riding on training rides. Most of what I see are steel frames from the ancient to the botique, built with whatever old aluminum kinesis fork came on their previous bike & some old 90s campy. My gods how does anyone survive a road ride without buying whatever $12k molded plastic Chinese bike we’re being told is so much better this month lol
GCN long form videos are lovely, but we will miss GCN+ like a beloved old bike we regret selling. Trust me, I have sold way too many beloved old bikes... 😭
If you are looking for a Boardman Lotus bicycle, there was one at the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge Surrey, last time I visited. Would love to see it against the Ribble.
My mornings are already called for. My intent is to do this kind of training at least once a week on a stationary bike at my gym. My goal is endurance and an average speed of 12.5 mph or 20 kmh. I plan on riding 150 miles or 240 km in 12-16 hour day.
Hello, Is it possible to fix the Ortlieb fork bag to the sides? I would like to have less weight on the front wheel. Thanks in advance for your answer.
The scene at 1:30:16 is a great demo of fork compliance be is steel or other material. More scenes like this that actually show the degree of stiffness of design and materials would add to any explanation of frame design and material usage.
My first bike was a Hercules, cast iron frame, no gears, magneto set and a riding cape for the British weather, loved that bike I could ride it pretty much anywhere.
Hi Bethany & hello from Australia . I’ve followed you on instagram for a while now but I’m new to your TH-cam channel. I absolutely love the fact that you can find the time to put this all together while earning a living & keep the truck on the road. P.S. love your rig & it’s only a personal opinion, but I think it would look even better with a couple of big ass exhaust stacks on it
I did the MS150 on a hybrid that I got off of Craigslist for $150. I was passed all day, both days, but every time I'd say, "That's okay, you paid more for your bike."
I am only 57 mins into the video but I would really like to see a standard goof brand starter bike (I own a 2011 Trek 1.1) with no upgrades vs one of those super bikes to see the difference on how much the rider makes vs the bike. If a pro rider on one of those is only 15 seconds or so difference over a long distance... I would feel very happy to know a decent starter bike is pretty good for a basic rider.
Ollies revenge ever since he got dropped has been nothing short brutal. I like his style of vengeance. Not sure about the gcn staff though taking the punishment.
I’ve been using specialized tyres and cannot fault them, my team used to be sponsored by ESI I’ve used all their grips and love them, I swear by my fabric scoop saddle … another top vid
34:30 You guys need to do a little more homework next time. LeMond used the tri bars for the stage 5 time trial and the hill climb time trial. He was not approached mid-race. The Coke can part is true. The bars slipped during the stage 5 time trial so Otto Jacome came up with the “Greatest Hack” of all time.
I thought Lemond used aero bars in an earlier stage (a mountain time trial). Fignon didn’t put in an objection at their use and so when he did put an objection in after losing the final stage (and thus the Tour) his objection was overruled.
He had; he used them in _every_ TT (save the prologue) in the '89 TDF. And he didn't have to be convinced to use them. He saw them used earlier in '89 at the Tour de Trump and recognized their aerodynamic advantage and used them (along with 7-Eleven) in the '89 TDF. 7-Eleven were the first pro cyclists to race on the tri-bars in the '89 Tour de Trump -- they also used them in the _final_ TT of a stage race (TDT).

On flat rough surfaces like cobblestones modern tech does literally zero. On climbs its good though. It wasn't until 2017 and tubeless tires were a thing before the Paris Roubaix stage record from the 1960s was beaten on a carbon bike. The bikes bounced so much they were actually slower until squishy tires were invented. If you are a really slow rider you will probably have more fun on carbon because the bikes are super easy to pedal. If you are a strong rider with no interest in racing and you ride in urban areas steel bikes will give you a better ride and better handling. If you want to race at Cat 2 or above probably a good idea to be on carbon.
Boone Lennon advised Lemond about the positioning. So far true story. But team 7 Eleven used the aerobars already in Tour de Trump 1989. There Lemond noticed a very fast itt from sprinter Davis Phinney using aerobars. Lemond tried them in training and was convinced. Photos of the tdf prologue in Luxembourg show markings of an earlier attachment of aerobars (in training) at Lemond bullhornbars. I dont know if team & Eleven and toprider Andy Hampsten used the bars already in the prologue but in the first big itt from Dinard to Rennes Hampsten used the bars for sure. Nobody noticed. The performance of Lemond with aerobars was remarkable: stage win and yellow. Before the last itt Boone Lennon advised Lemond to but the bars higher up (like they do nowadays) to mimick the ski position. Conservative cycling world couldnt deny such a win using aerobars and the rest is history.
More of an observation but I can think of at least 10 examples of TT crashes involving the pro women’s teams. Just saying it would be nice to include video examples of the women pros . Chloé Dygert for example.
My 80 lb 26 x 4 fat tire 7 speed with fenders and rack is way faster. 😂 66 kph.. with motor and battery installed.. I could be camera man next to you guys 👍
The Battaglin is such a beautiful bike and the Ribble is so ugly, cycling used to be such a cool looking sport. Now it’s just loads of sheep riding gravel bikes dressed in boring dark or black clothing.
Seriously heavy (EuroBike road bike), a lot heavier than my retro MTB and possibly my not-so-retro one too, when you have nuts on the front it's a good sign of cheapness
What's your favourite video from the selection? 🚴
The Andrew feather one, however "road sheep" kills me.
how many years before ribble slr is on par with a time trial bike ? or what generation time trial bike can a ribble slr not beat :)
The one I’m pointing at.
I may have commented on some videos it was total crap..
But I have to say.. Really great videos👍
Everything involving a mullet, mo, or speedos.
Man I miss Matt. He was such a entertaining and nice presenter.
Yes the best presenter
@@syazwanabdull4835 nah just different
Thankfully he is still in the business with sigma sports channel
Matt Watson, car wow loves his drag racing and car comparisons. 😎
@@MNCPMSteve are you drunk?
this is the best 2 hour and 37 minute i ever wasted on. i would love to see more long videos like this
Thanks!
We’re glad you like it! Hopefully we can bring more long format content :D
"Riding at 40k per hour." I have to go off a cliff to sustain that speed...
Owning a Ribble Ultra SLR, I can safely say them bikes are outrageous. I love mine, It makes me look forward to riding my bike again and going fast on it is simply smile inducing stuff!
That ribble look bonkers ! I want one now 😂
Goodbye GCN+ my favorite cycling streaming apps 😢
Thanks for this! Great insight in the difference. Cost is decisive. I still have my 2009 Madone 4:7 as my main bike. I can’t justify about 5G and it’s the rider that makes the difference. Love the channel!
Nice way to spend time at work when there is nothing to do. Great video. Love the older segments I missed in the past!!
Well done mate, that was so gutsy. Excellent video as well.
YES GCN! Compliation-me-up!
And the legend will say that after this ad, Ribble sales increased considerably...
Good race Joe! That was fun.

Besides the great bike content, kudos to the video team for great shots, audio and editing. Really nice content.

Agreed. And the girl at the end was such a nice bonus 😁😁
Even people who don't like bike racing like the '89 Tour.
Si is definitely the strongest cyclist on GCN staff.
Belle vidéo. Ça permet de découvrir de nouveaux paysages et des nouvelles pratiques de velo.

2 HRS!!!!!! love it.
It’s just a reupload of videos they already have on the channel? You could watch those two hours whether they uploaded this or not…
@@_Tp__ I know, its just nice to throw it on and let it play while working not he computer.

Steel is Real.......that is it and it's just damn cool!
Are you trying to distract me from binge watching GCN+ 😅
Official request for a 2 hour long video of all GCN presenters saying “how cool is that?“
"so I went to your room, and read your diaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...." (Weezer, "El Scorcho"
Ollie, its not a double diamond frame! Double diamond was a beer from the 60's / 70's. It's a double triangle, making a single diamond!!!!!!
5:30 this is unexpected - gcn praising rim brakes!
My first bike was a Hercules, cast iron frame, no gears, magneto set and a riding cape for the British weather, loved that bike I could ride it pretty much anywhere.
1.06.17 are they cracks in the top of the Raleigh forks?

Fit a tandem bike with Gravel tyres, convert the gears and plan a 150-kilometre gravel route.

I wasn’t expecting the last climb when I did Montrose Long either. Only 7-8 of us even made it onto Grandview when I did it back in October.
I’ve been using specialized tyres and cannot fault them, my team used to be sponsored by ESI I’ve used all their grips and love them, I swear by my fabric scoop saddle … another top vid
“Did you put this here?” At the traffic light 😂
You can most definitely “feel” aerodynamics…

30:40 I've bought one of those myself. lol Scott Aero bars.
Just shows you how strong the riders were back then!!
Clean rim surface and new pads would make a world of improvement.
I find aero helps me on the wind trainer.
Greg use the time trail bars and all the time trials of the 1989 tour de France not just the last one.
When r u going to compare against Obree's old faithful?
You look really funny in these skinny suites, on the skinny bikes.
Hank and Connor need to do more content together!
Requesting a throwback Thursday challenge with old presenters such as Matt Stevens, Opie, Emma, Jeremy POWERS, Dan Lloyd…

Did you catch it? Ollie called Simon “Brian.”
Its got wheels👍👍😎😎😎
This is like Phub but for bikes
Damn it's sad to think we won't see Manon in any more GCN videos 😥
But you can always keep watching the videos we’ve already made in the meantime. Have you seen all of them? Are you sure you’ve seen every single one?
"Super aero" only happens when you go really fast. At a slower speed, it just "AERO!" LOL!
grande evento
29 second! Won’t even make my wife upset for me being late home. 😅
Ive still got those exact red Time pedals.... lol
I was at the t t when roche won the tour de france . Dijon . 87 😊

You are talking about aerodynamics, why not use the same tyres? Obviously appropiate size, example Conti 5000, if necessary tubulars.
Does that mean that the riders in the 1980s were stronger?
On flat rough surfaces like cobblestones modern tech does literally zero. On climbs its good though. Beautiful bikes, but I prefer 38mm tyres , not 28, 25 or 20.
I actually think that would be an awesome bike! Currently I have an Occam and Orca and that bike would be the middle child!
Theres no such thing as the fastest bike in the world it’s all about the rider
I bought a matched set of 7000s that probably had less than 200 mi total. A 26" Mountain Bike and a 700c Hybrid. Why are they all Green?
More of an observation but I can think of at least 10 examples of TT crashes involving the pro women’s teams. Just saying it would be nice to include video examples of the women pros . Chloé Dygert for example.
At 1:41:00... I like that Orange Bike. Lol.
Nice 80s background music 😂
Missing the GCN movies already :(
Maybe get some tri bars and try again
It's pretty well thought that Roach was chemically assisted
That “heavyweight” Ty hyper bike is still ½ the weight of my reasonably expensive mtb.
"as best we can"... was that good enough for him? lol "the olden days...."
"Oh No, I've not clipped in" Classic Stephens.
I think if Si had glasses that were narrower than his handlebars he could shave 20seconds off an 8km TT
So... 0.5 to 1 second faster per year? Not bad. I wonder how much of that is simply in a modern wheelset.
🚴🙌

Tires are the biggest difference in speed, using crap and top tires.
