  • Our overnight accommodation was in Reebok and it was already dark outside when we arrived, so we couldn't see much of the beauty that surrounded us. We heard so much about how gorgeous Little Brak River and Reebok were. However, the next morning, we were in for a treat as we woke up to breathtaking views of the picturesque hamlet. We were excited to explore the area, and we learned that Little Brak River and Reebok were virtually the same place. Our host suggested that we go and look for the old railway bridge that was said to be quite a sight to behold. We knew we had to check it out! Additionally, we were told that both Reebok and Little Brak River had amazing beaches, and we couldn't wait to explore them and the rest of what these two villages had in store. We were thrilled to be in this beautiful part of the Garden Route and couldn't wait to see all that it had to offer! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #littlebrakriver #kleinbrakrivier #reebok

    Superb editing at the old railway bridge - incorporating your on the ground experience together with the magic of your drone - and the glorious sights/views/sounds of the surrounding area and beyond all the way to the ocean and then homing in to the jelly fish snd skeleton on the sand - perfectly capturing the atmosphere Sonia was describing/sensing so deeply. This was a really special start to my day. You transported me through time and space to this glorious place. Thank you so much!
    Sonia is ready to move today! It really is a beautiful place! ❤
    And you are becoming very skilled with your drone, Curtis. I get shivers viewing these spectacular scenes
    paired with your choice of music.

      Thank you, I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the drone shots and the tunes I chose to accompany them. I tried flying the drone more often on this trip and enjoyed it every time! 🤩 Sonia was so taken with this place and I completely understand why. There is this intense sense of calm and serenity in these incredible surroundings with so much natural beauty, that it was difficult not to be excited about it all! 🌳🌊 We're glad you started your day in Reebok and Little Brak River too!

    Hi you two! Now this was stunning! I think what I share with Sonia is the peacefulness of the place that one experiences with all your senses. The people living there must count their blessings. Your stay-over place was great too, beautiful room and great view.
    Lovely blue skies and beaches, tree lined streets ... . AND you managed to find a gravel road and to send up the drone! The aerial views are really astounding and so well captured. It made my day!
    Thank you for taking me along. Looking forward to the next outing!
    Keep safe!

      Stunning is about right! 🚙🤩 Sonia is in every fibre of her being a get-up-and-go type of person, but that morning was different somehow. She said that she felt this profound sense of calm and peace, like you also describe, and this feeling just grew for her as we explored the town. It must be a special place to have that effect on my darling wife. 🥰 The beauty is undeniable and the town is tidy, clean and organised which is something we always love to see as we travel through our beautiful country. I'm glad you also enjoyed the gravel road and the drone shots, I loved flying over the old railway bridge. Our accommodation was just the perfect place to arrive at at the end of a very long day! Hi guys what an amazing surprise to see in detail Reebok and klein brak river I agree with Sonia such a relaxed peaceful atmosphere I have already shared the video with my pal in Reebok and my sister who lived in South Africa in 70s and 80s. The accommodation as always top notch and what a great idea fold out cooking station the views stunning immaculate lawns streets this is how I remember South Africa. I can see potential for the old power station make a bar hotel restaurant?or a unusual house to live in great you managed to find a gravel road great spot for fishing along the river. Loved the old bridge imagine sitting on steam train crossing the bridge unbelievable beach empty crazy those houses on the front millionaire views the drone footage really brought it altogether for me amazing video thanks for showing me where my old pal lives. Cheerio till the next one. Just a little story my pal had got a new motorbike at the time neither of us had a bike licence so I said we'll just drive down to the garage get some petrol no one will see us approx 500m away got the petrol on the way back two motorbike cops were coming down the road so got off the bike and pretended we were pushing it they stopped us and one cop came over mirror sunglasses riding breeches big gun holster just to set the picture!!he crouched down put his hand near the engine it was red hot he looks at us and says you must be pushing it really fast ok let's see how fast you can push it we had to run as fast as we could when we got back to my friends house they pulled off laughing 😃

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you mentioned in a comment on an earlier video that your friend retired in Reebok, I didn't want to spoil the surprise and I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! 🤩🚙 Thank you for sharing with your friends and family, I so appreciate that. Our accommodation was indeed fantastic, we had a great night's rest and woke up refreshed and ready to witneses all this overwhelming beauty first-hand! 🌳🌊 The power station is too far gone to be resurrected in my opinion, I'm afraid. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Interesting thought though, the building has so much character and it's sad to see it having been allowed to basically go to ruin. I don't even have to close my eyes to imagine us sitting in a steam engine crossing that bridge! Those days it must've been even more beautiful than it is today, with far fewer houses and buildings around and just the stunning natural beauty to admire. We would be nothing without our imaginations! 🚂 What a stunning story about you and your friend 'pushing' the motorbike. Your vivid description brought the entire scene to life for me. Innocent fun and luckily you got away with it. Those memories are precious, hang on to them! 🏍️👨🏻‍✈️

    What a lovely room you stayed in. Love the artwork and the little kitchen station is so clever.That view reminds me a lot of the view we had from our friends home in Kleinbrak. Truly beautiful to see the sunset from there. If it doesnt have a supermarket its a hamlet, if it has eggs in it, its an omlette! I had such lovely walks on that beach and enjoyed swimming in the river mouth. More happy memories.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Our accommodation was indeed a cosy haven to come home to that evening and we could just chill and relax after a long day on the road. 🚙🏡 We didn't see any eggs during our visit, so it was most certainly a hamlet! 😁🍳 I can only imagine you spending wonderful times in this beautiful place and on the beach. I would imagine this is many holidaymaker's dream location and it was so enjoyable having the beach almost entirely to ourselves, which I'm sure is not always the case! 🤩🏖️

      The Garden Route indeed seems to be not only an extremely popular holiday destination, but also a place where lots of folks from upcountry seem to migrate to. And I don't blame them one bit! • @funkdunk
    @funkdunk ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thanks for the great content so far with these episodes. I couldn't believe how much Hartenbos has grown since I have last been there. We always used to camp at the Point Caravan Park, I recall us making reservations for the following year on our arrival. The School also accommodated caravans and tents on their grounds. (Across from the Point). Groot Brak looked great, however I have to agree with Sonia re Kleinbrak and Reebok (which I have never heard of before..prior to seeing it here). Thats it, its the atmosphere, that your videos convey in such a brilliant way. Your drone footage is exceptional. With the Garden Route enjoying the best of semigration, daily regular and frequent flights between George and Cape Town or Joburg, Cape Town is an hour away, it can take an hour to drive from Durbanville to Cape Town. I would agree with Sonia's sentiments. Pcoza Reebok here we come 😊 😂😅 your Kwid blended with the sea in the closing shot...thats a sign 😂😂

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      😁 We had a good chuckle about the sign of the Kwiddie blending into the ocean! 🚙🌊 It was interesting to read that you've holidayed at Hartenbos and Mossel Bay before, two places which the two of us have never went on holiday before. Go figure! 🤷🏼‍♂️ We've driven past all these places countless times while zooming on our way someplace else and, although Sonia always scopes them out as we drive by, we decided it was high time to go and check them out up close and personal. And they did not disappoint! How the folks have managed to integrate the towns into nature without spoiling the surroundings, has to be admired. 🌳⛰️ I had my hands full with Sonia during and after this visit, what with all the signs and all the beauty and the feelings. This place somehow had a very deep impact on her as you no doubt heard. 🥰 The growth that this entire area seems to have experienced over the last few decades, is incredible. One can't blame folks from upcountry exchanging the craziness of city life for this beauty and still being able to commute fairly easily as and when necessary as you highlighted in your comment. This part of the Garden Route has most definitely not seen the last of us, that's a given! This was only the start of Day 2 of our trip, we hope you'll join us as as we discover more beauty along the way!

We gathered that, for the most part, folks who reside there on a permanent basis, are either employed in nearby towns like Mossel Bay and George, or retired, while the other properties are holiday homes. What a coincidence that we were so close so your son's house! He is indeed fortunate to live in that beautiful area! 😁🏡 The towns or hamlets all flow into one another and there wasn't enough space on the thumbnail of this video to add any more. We did make sure that our accommodation was in Reebok though and that we were in actual fact in LIttle Brak River too! That's all that counts. I honestly wouldn't be able to give you any advice on carcamping in South Africa. We started out by camping in a tent in caravan parks and campgrounds, but because we only stay in a place for one night, it became too much of a hassle to set and break up camp every day and since then we've been staying over at accommodation establishments which we book in advance. I'm sure it will be just fine if you do the carcamping thing at a caravan park or campground, but I'm not sure about other places. I suggest you do some more research before you put your plans into motion! When you ultimately do visit our country, we wish you many happy travels! 🚙🇿🇦
      We don't own an offroad vehicle. We rent a vehicle every time and we choose the smallest vehicle with the highest ground clearance we can find. That way, we're able to navigate 95% of gravel roads. We're not worried about the 5% of roads we're not able to travel on. 🚙😁
