  • Our trip to Glentana was absolutely breathtaking. As we arrived at the top, we were met with an awe-inspiring view of the ocean and the surrounding village below. Driving down the winding road through the trees was like being transported to another wonderful world, with the lush greenery enveloping us and the sounds of nature all around. When we finally reached the beach, we were blown away by the pure, white sands stretching out before us. Taking a long walk on the beach was so peaceful and calming, with the sound of the waves lapping against the shore and the gentle sea breeze blowing. But the beauty of Glentana didn't end there. Driving along the coastal road was an experience in itself, with the stunning houses, breathtaking views, and natural beauty that surrounded us on all sides. I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such an amazing place! DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #glentana

    Hi you two! Thank you for flying me in to Glentana paradise!
    What a spectacular beach with blue skies and blue sea! The town is everything one could wish for (except for all day open restaurants and streets full of shops?). Lovely tree lined streets and beautiful houses, apartment buildings with modern design -- all with great views. You obviously came there on garbage removal day with the bags neatly at the houses to be picked up, one of the reasons why the town is so neat. It does seem a good place to retire -- if you have the money.
    I was really impressed by the large caravan park with trees big enough to set up a caravan and tent beneath it.
    I'm ready to jump on the next trip!
    Keep safe!

      Wowzer! The view from up there was a beautiful welcome to Glentana! 🌳🌊 We're not sure if we perhaps missed a place that would've been open for brunch or any shops, but we certainly saw no other indication that there were any, only the 'Shopping' sign pointing out of Glentana. It does make it special in a kind of way too! I would go and pitch our tenant in that caravan park today! From the grounds to all the facilities, were wonderfully taken care of and the vibe is one of intense chillness, if there is even such a thing! 😍🏕️ There is more beauty on the way, I know you're ready for the next stop! Thank you for joining us in Glentana! 🚙😁

    we used to go to Glentana's caravan park when I was about 10. This was in 1967, It was wonderful. After that my dad bought a plot in Outeniqua strand that is just next to Glentana. You drove through the bottom part , around where you went back on the main rd. He built a wooden house/ cottage for us and we holidayed there for many many years. Glentana have a wonderful walk past the rocks where you can come across many beautiful secluded beaches. Truly like paradise

      And the beauty just continues! I knew you would be super familiar with Glentana too, having lived in George. I'm glad you were reminded of some good old times! 🌊🎣 There were probably much fewer houses when you were there last. The place seems to have expanded a lot! Your seat is booked for Tuesday! 🚙😁

Loved the campsite the facilities spotless and clean also people even have a carport. All this in along side national park. Like Sonia I love the thatched roofs and houses thanks for a amazing video cheerio till the next one

      The caravan park was one of the highlights of Glentana for us! It's a really great facility, with a perfect location and well-maintained. No wonder there seems to be quite a number of long-term caravanners there! 🏕️ Thatch-roofed houses are our favourites, they just have so much character and rustic charm! It always reminds us of being in the bush and close to nature. Thank you for visiting beautiful Glentana with us! 🚙😁

    WE took a drive through Glentana. It came across to us as a retirement place for the wealthy. Still, very pretty. The sea is always a winner. And the beaches still seem to be safe. No encroaching informal settlements.

      Glentana is a pristine place and the folks who live there, are blessed with natural beauty beyond measure. 🌊🌳 Our thought was that the full-time residents are a combination of retired folks and those who work in nearby towns like George and Mossel Bay. I'm gIad to hear you enjoy our videos so much! 🚙 We didn't stop off in George this time around, we were on our way to another destination. Sonia has a lot of history in George and I have very close family there, so we have visited the town many times before off-camera. As you know, it's a very large and very busy town, so very difficult to explore like we do the smaller places. We have been thinking of a drivethrough for a video and will certainly try and work that into our travelling schedule later this year. Until then, we hope you enjoy the other places we got to visit on our journey! 🚙😁

  • @hannesvanniekerk499

    Wow, I think I could live there. Tell me, the 'log houses'...it seems that building material is often used along various stretches of the coast there. Is it popular/ long lasting/ resistant to termites? Sonia, I'm always enjoying your humorous quips but especially not being able to recall things 60-70 years back- very funny. The beach is fantastic! Thankyou for sharing.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      😁 Sonia's overdeveloped sense of humour wasn't happy with me implying that she was around 60 or so years ago. I honestly have no idea about the ins-and-outs of log homes, but we do seem to notice them increasingly as we travel from place to place. For me, it's their ambience and they always remind me of the Bushveld, which is an area we both love dearly. 😍 I agree with you, we could easily see ourselves living on the Garden Route too. The beauty is simply endless! 🌳🌊

    “It’s so relaxing!” Yes indeed Sonia! Het was een heerlijk relax weekend op de achterbank van de DustBugs tijdens beide episodes. Wat een prachtige locaties, te midden van de groene natuur en fraai ontworpen moderne huizen, en ook nog eens een stukje langs een mooie Kustweg. Of zag ik daar op het bordje staan Kusweg😊? Dat is een leuke Afrikaanse spelling vanuit het Nederlands bezien. Die camping, echt geweldig, en wat een ruime staanplaatsen. Mijn ouders zijn echte kampeerders en al bijna 45 jaar met hun Lander Graziella caravan, altijd naar Zwitserland, ook op de wintersport camping, dus ik ken dat ‘leven’. Het terrein waar jullie overheen reden en het sanitair aldaar is van Zwitserse properheid. Ik dacht even, nu op naar George dus had mijn achterneef alvast ingeseind. Maar las inmiddels in een van je reacties dat het qua oord (inderdaad) niet in jullie soort reis past. Mijn opa’s oudste broer emigreerde in de 1950’s naar Zuid-Afrika (Randfontein) en zijn verdere leven aldaar en later in Swaziland en Rhodesië verliep net zo kleurrijk als de man zelf was. Ik heb al zijn dagboeken uit die tijd met veel ingeplakte media artikelen dus er ligt heel wat geschiedenis bij mij thuis. Twee van zijn zonen gingen later terug naar NL, de oudste bleef achter en woont in George.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว

      You indeed saw Kusweg! This one really spoke to us because we also have a Kusweg, also known as Beach Road, in Strand where we live. 🌊 There are quite a few roads named this way all through the coastal villages and towns of South Africa. Knowing the caravan life, I'm not surprised that you loved the caravan park too! Amidst such beautiful natural surroundings, it can only be a joy to camp there! 🌳🏕️ One day we hope to visit Switzerland too, but we've seen pictures and it looks incredibly beautiful there too. George is a difficult one for us for a number of reasons. It's a large and very busy town and we will have a hard time exploring it the way we normally do, especially on a random Tuesday which is the day we passed the town. I have very close family there and Sonia lived there for a number of years herself too, so it's a personal town which we have to schedule separate visits to. However, we do plan on driving through the town one day and will make a video of that for all those viewers who would like to see George. 😁 We will give you an overview of the town one of your family members still lives in. It was quite an interesting story about your grandfather's uncle moving to SA in the 50's.

    Named for a ship wrecked there. Very pretty place. Great stuff. edit: oops, my bad. Ship was not named Glentana but is referred to as Glentana shipwreck. Researched it years ago as a possible dive site, but not so. Still visible right on beach.

    Beautiful, loved it. Also follow the comments of Ingeborg van der Veer. Somehow as an expat, SA seems so dangerous and perilous. What seems expensive and exclusive in SA is standard and average in West Australia. Love your comments.

    • @DustBugsTravel

      Yup, that's the difference between First and Third World for you! And the gap grows wider with each passing day, it seems! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Fortunately for us, we love fancy just as much as not-so-fancy, so have fun exploring any area, no matter what it looks like, as long as we feel safe. We've travelled extensively in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Free State by vehicle in the last 18 months and have only felt unsafe twice. But we're vigilant all the time and never let our guard down. While it's sad, it's the way it is and we're happy to do it if it means we can explore more of this incredibly beautiful country! 😍🇿🇦 It's fantastic that you also read other viewers' comments, they give us a totally different perspective on things sometimes and we learn so much from them! 🚙🤩

    Greetings and "Salutations to Curt & Sonia", thank you for taking our community on holiday nearly every day. Sonia the word that escaped me during my other comments and you shouted out with glee "PARADISE". After reading the comments that followed "EDEN" and "no big fences" and "70s lawn" were attributed to the extended settlements of Mossel Bay. The comments also add something to the visit that just reminded me of a double decker bus in Cliff Richard's "Summer Holiday" and all the DustBug families looking out the windows, standing up, leaning over pointing out and just enjoying it all.
    Thank you, thank you much.
    Ps. Question: Is there a reason why you didn't stop and ask the gentleman standing outside (at 23.30) where the nearest place to buy food was?

      This place is indeed paradise and so, so beautiful! 🌊🌳 We sometimes feel like everyone is literally on our backseat. We find so much joy in sharing the beauty that we happen upon on every single trip and at every single place or town we have the privilege to explore. No reason at all why we didn't stop and ask about food, other than we had our eye on a place in Great Brak River since the day before and knew exactly where we were going for our mid-morning sustenance! 😁🌭🍔

      The coastline from Mossel Bay to Herolds Bay forms a big horseshoe shape and all the different beaches are part of the horseshoe. Mossel Bay, together with 21 other small settlements or towns all form part of the Mossel Bay Municipality. I trust this clarifies. 👌🏻
