  • Our visit to the beautiful place of Great Brak River on the famous Garden Route of South Africa was a delightful experience. We took a drive over the wooden bridge that connects the town to the island and we were greeted by the stunning view of the river and the surrounding mountains. The island was charming with its tree-lined streets and quaint homes that exuded a peaceful ambiance. We then took a slow drive up the hill to take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the valley and snaking river below. The view was truly awe-inspiring, and we were left feeling rejuvenated and refreshed by the natural beauty of the surroundings. Next, we drove through the village, taking in the vibrant energy of this town. Finally, we went to OpiSpoor Pub & Grill for an evening meal. The restaurant was cosy and inviting, with a warm atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was simply delicious and we savoured every bite. Overall, our visit to Great Brak River was a wonderful experience which connected us once again to the beauty of nature and the warm hospitality of the locals. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #greatbrakriver #gardenroute

      It was a fantastic visit to Great Brak River and we absolutely loved visiting! We've so often seen it from the highway, but have never driven through and it was a really great experience. The natural beauty is overwhelming in places and how the houses and buildings have been integrated into nature, says a lot for the townsfolk. I'm so glad you enjoyed it with us, thanks for coming along! 🚙😁

      Great Brak River is incredibly beautiful and the residents are indeed very fortunate to call this area their home. One is truly spoilt for choice on the Garden Route, one place wants to be more gorgeous than the previous one. Thanks for checking all of them out with us! 🚙🤩

    More memorable last happy times with my Beloved. Yes, we enjoyed a visit to the island too. Got the feeling its very exclusive and one wont easily be able to own a place there, unless you know someone! Yes my hubby had a pair of Grasshoppers, lasted him years hey did! We did find some lovely viewpoints on the hills but I can remember exactly where, we were just furtling around. Love the church with its story about the founders. All in all, its a very pleasant town to visit. Oh yay! So glad you went to the old station for some grub. We spent many a happy hour there, just relaxing in the pub, or stuffing our faces with delicious pizza! The old station has such a haunting feel,like it is waiting for a train that never comes,....until.... I remember coming through there by train, years ago of course. Still have it on video. Pok ! Pok! Pok! Yes the chicken said it all.

      I'm always so happy when our videos remind you of good times with your loved ones and it certainly sounds like this area does just that! 😊 I can completely understand that though! I absolutely loved Great Brak River from the moment I entered town and the feeling never left me! The Island looks like a fantastic place to live and visit and is so well-maintained and cared for. They kept so many green areas intact, which was great to see! 💚🌳 I couldn't believe that the place where we decided to have dinner, was actually part of the old station. It was great to walk around and also imagine what it must've been like when trains were passing through, as I often do. 🤷🏼‍♂️🚆 We loved the chickens too! 😍🐓

The locals we chatted to are proud to share the beauty of their town with others. 🚙🤩

    60 years ago we spent our honeymoon in Grootbrakrivier....we didnt have a car so travelled by train from steynsburg. We walked everyhere ... to the sea and rivermouth... spent hours on the island. That was where I first saw gloworms... couldnt believe the weird balls of light when we explored the island by night. And phosphor on the water.. it was a wonderworld. Such lovely memories.. love you channel.

      They sound like fantastic memories! Such uncomplicated times back in the day, so much so that you were able to travel to Great Brak River by train and were able to walk around to wherever you wanted to go! 🤩 This was our first visit to the town and I was very impressed with the entire place, but The Island was the highlight for me! I wish we were there at night. It sounds like there were far fewer houses on The Island back then. Thank you for sharing those memories with us and for coming back to this area again with us! 🚙🏝️

    A lovely area. The first thing I noticed on the island is lack of security features. No razor wire, no high walls, no electric fences. Garages at the edge of the road. Just like the old days of 40 years ago. Thanks for the tour.

      It is indeed a lovely area with an abundance of natural beauty all around! 🌳🌊 Keen observation on your part about the absence of security features. What a amazing place it has it all. Beautiful old trees, an island and even a crocodile, what more can one ask for. My friend often went to the Grasshopper shop to buy our shoes and get a meal then sit next to the water and enjoy our meal. Can't do that no more but do so appreciate the ride with you and Sonia it sure brought back lots of memories. ❤

    Hi guys another gem this lives up to its name Garden route loved the bridge over the estuary wow then the little bridge to the island spotted a old bakkie lol also some clapper board houses. The crocodile would be a good security device? Must check out grass hoppers shoes. Views from the high point stunning I'd like one of those houses on the gravel road. The interdenominational was interesting. My wife informed me that we had one in the area we were brought up in ( inner city London) and that a lady she worked who was Christian married a Jewish guy in one of these churches they are alo known as Free churches. Great facilities for sports loved the little bridge in the park. OFFIES SPOOR BRILLIANT PLACE where the old station was amazing lovely food and to top it off African sunset thanks again cheerio till the next one

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That crocodile sure had Sonia fooled when she first saw it! 😁🐊 It's so realistic though and a fantastic decoration on the perfect spot, but I like your thought of a security device! I thought Great Brak River was a spectacular place in a perfect setting with fantastic views, I was really impressed! The location of the restaurant was just stunning and it was so cool to see that it was the original station. The food was absolutely delicious too! 🍖🍗 Grasshoppers is an institution in South Africa as far as shoes go. We grew up with our dads and uncles wearing them. Interesting to hear that interdenominational churches are also known as free churches, I never knew that! ⛪ Thanks for coming to Great Brak River with us. 🤩🚙

    I think it was the stoor that you had a meal at because the old station which has been a restaurant for many years was a beautiful building with gardens. The restaurant used to serve real boerekos and the local tannies used to love getting together there for tea parties

      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. Sonia did mention in our video that it was the Goods Shed. 👍🏻 We saw the next day that what must've been the old station building, still seems to be a restaurant. It was closed when we drove past there though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Hi you two! Thank you for this stunning trip in Groot Brak Rivier! First time I've been there, always speeding past on the highway in some hurry or the other.
    It is difficult to find words to express my wonderment of the Island. So peaceful and obviously a safe place to live.
    Groot Brak itself is bigger than I thought. Very neat and not lacking anything. Beautiful views of the mountains and the river, even on a hazy day! And green everywhere you look.

    Als Sonia al na 2 minuten bijna gaat zingen van plezier dan kan het niet anders dan een prachtige episode zijn. Het was weer genieten, zoveel groen, mooie huizen en uitzichten. A British church onderweg und ein Eisbein als diner, is dat speciaal vanwege het bezoek van koning Karel III aan Berlijn deze week of kwam die combinatie der elementen puur toevallig op jullie pad 😊😉? Mooi die kippen op het spoor, nog beter als de trein ooit weer voorbij komt want de sporen zien er nog best goed uit.
