When the Afrikaners were forcing SA races to conform to their values, we Blacks complained. When they decide to rather go and live out their culture and values by themselves we also complain. Instead, we want to force ourselves and values on them - hypocritical to say the least. They are there living in peace, not bothering anyone.
We came here with an open mind, and we tried to learn the best we could. Lets us know your opinion. Slava's Adventure in 🇿🇦 playlist th-cam.com/play/PLuKKdXhv4SaNKWnc_0FWi23xkUvO7dHe1.html&feature=shared In the early 1990s, a group of Afrikaners had a vision: to create a self-reliant, independent community where they could preserve their culture and way of life. This vision led to the birth of Orania, a town located along the Orange River in the Karoo region of South Africa's Northern Cape province. The story of Orania begins with its founder, Carel Boshoff Sr., a theologian and cultural activist. In 1991, Boshoff and a group of like-minded Afrikaners purchased the town, which had originally been built in the 1970s for construction workers on the Orange River Project. The town had been empty for years, but the new owners saw its potential as a pilot project for Afrikaner self-determination and cultural preservation. From the start, Orania was designed to be a self-sufficient community. The town's economy is largely based on agriculture, with a significant focus on pecan nut farming. Orania even prints its own currency, called the Ora, which is pegged to the South African Rand. The town operates independently, with its own municipal administration and no reliance on national funding. Orania's commitment to self-sufficiency extends to its energy needs. The town has invested heavily in solar power, aiming to achieve energy independence. This dedication to sustainability is evident in its infrastructure, including its sewage works and landfill site, which complies with stringent environmental regulations. The town has also faced its share of controversy. Critics argue that Orania's policy of being a whites-only community is a throwback to apartheid. However, the town's supporters point to the South African Constitution, which allows for the right to self-determination, as justification for its existence. Despite the challenges, Orania has grown steadily. The town's population has increased significantly, and it continues to attract new residents who share its vision. Orania's future projects are ambitious, with plans to expand the population to 15,000 inhabitants. This includes the development of new housing, businesses, and factories, as well as a major expansion of the solar farm. 60 million South African Rand (approximately 3,225,000 Euros.) Orania's story is one of resilience and determination. It's a community that has faced scrutiny and controversy but remains steadfast in its mission to create a self-reliant, sustainable, and culturally rich environment. As Orania continues to grow and evolve, it serves as a testament to the power of vision and the strength of community.
Never thought I would see racism promoted in this channel which normally promotes what's good in SA. I don't know what's the fascination with this racist town for it to receive so much coverage from youtubers. For me this town represents the worst of our country , no matter how anybody spins it this is racism in full display, they even have a statue of the architect of apartheid Hendrick Verwoerd displayed proudly there, sickening
This was a fascinating video. If I could I would move here. It looks so peaceful. I don't understand the problem the rest of the country has with Orania. These people aren't bothering anyone. There are places in our country where only blacks, coloureds and Indians are allowed to live so I don't see a problem with this. Another great video 🙏🏻
@notoxicatall what's your problem. Why do you choose to be an ass under my comment. I'm only stating my opinion. Some people just love confrontation 🙄
Where are these places where only blacks and coloureds are allowed to live, stop lying to justify racism, if there are areas with blacks only it's because whites don't want to live there not because there are laws preventing them to live there.

One Small Town or Ubuntu Villages towns began by Michael Tellinger in SA isperhaps a more ideal model for similar developments. Kudos in its urban and infrastructural development.
Seeing your previous episodes of downtown Johannesburg, this place feels like heaven. Can’t communities are safer when people with shared values come together. It doesn’t necessarily be based on religion, race or tribe but values.
@@bergmember The problem is people still hoping the ANC will change. That will never happen, change the government, go for the next better option. Gayton McKenzie went to Orania to learn from them.
Hi David, honestly Johannesburg communtities could look at Orania with envy. If there's ever gonna be any transformation in Joburg, it will have to be as strict as needed. I am for Orania since Nelson Mandela allowed it to happen. I am happy for the community of Orania, they live in a well run community. I'm glad you (David) and your co-youtuber, Slava, introduced us to a rather beautiful Orania. I Don't think the bad reputation about the area, will work anymore...
Its too late for anyone to interrupt their project. Orania exists and its growing at a slow pace but likely to surpass other South African cities in years to come. With population increase of up to 10,000, the economy will grow even bigger.
This place stands for everything that is against modern South Africa values, whats stopping them from building this "utopia" city in their ancestral land somewhere in west Holland?
I am a black South African. To them Holland is as foreign as it is to me. All they know and understand is South Africa. They went to the least desirable and populated province of South Africa, which is home to the indigenous people of South Africa, the Khoi and the San. They are not using any black cheap labour, but you still complain, because that is what we black people are good at. I am Zulu, we Bantus came from the Congo. If we want the Afrikaners to go back to Holland, we should also go back to the Congo. There is a reason why the land on earth is a limited resource. It was never meant to belong to any person or group of people. It belongs to whoever lives in it at the time. All humans have been constantly migrating since their first existence on earth. Many scientists say humans originated from Africa, and then moved to other areas. So, no race or group of people can rightfully claim any piece of earth as theirs alone. Instead of complaining about land noone was interested in, why don't you organize our black sisters and brothers to clean up and take care of the land they are occupying. Most areas dominated by black people are neglected and dirty.😢😢
@graceomakada5082 The reason apartheid lasted as long as it did is because of sellouts like yourself, that's if you are even a black person which I doubt, ask yourself a simple question, can you as a black person go to Europe and start an orania without getting backlash from the racists there?, as it is they are losing their minds because people of color are immigrating there.
The Northern Cape is a sparsely populated province, because of its harsh conditions. They have worked hard for themselves to make something that was not there before. They have no cheap black labour, but you are still complain. Instead of taking lessons, you want to criticize. I am a black South African, but I say KUDOS to them. They don't have to deal with the corruption and incompetence of the ANC and others, which have mismanaged once thriving cities and towns of South Africa.
@@LifemzansiIt's their money and it's their choice. It doesn't add or subtract to the Rand. So, why bother? We black people need to focus on ourselves, and not white people, unless they do something that harms us. Black people have so much wasted potential, because they are misled by corrupt black leaders, who want to shift focus from their corruption and incompetence to whites and the past. If we don't change our thinking and attitude, we'll still be complaining about apartheid in 200 years from now. Instead of promoting self-dignity and self-reliance, black politicians are promoting entitlement and dependency, which will lead to more and more poverty. We cannot force other races to want or love us, but we can make them respect us by doing better than they expect. We can start by taking care of what already exists, and then innovate and build further. We do have what it takes, but choose to focus on getting rich quickly.😢😢
