Even on a rainy day, George never disappoints! Note to others - if you're driving the Garden Route / the N2, do yourself a favour and break your journey there and stock up your supplies at the supermarkets. The N9 also a very underrated route in South Africa. Safe travels both!
George is a big, beautiful town and it was wonderful to drive through the streets. Good advice to anyone to stop there, one can find absolutely anything your heart desires in town. 🚙😁
George. Lived and worked there for 8 years. Beautiful town in my days and now a city. They always said CAW stands for cold and wet or four seasons a day! I love George and will return if i can. A trip well done and very interesting. Thank you Lately you drive to places of huge memory to me. . Till the next one my seat remain warm
It's always great when our videos bring back fond memories of a place and I can hear there are many for you in George. It's a beautiful, green town and it was great to take a drive through parts of it, although it was raining almost all the time. 🌳🌧️ I couldn't believe it's a city now! 🚙😳 We'll see you at the next stop! 😁
It really is one of my favourite areas to visit. Lots going on in and around George. For me it has everything. The sea the mountains the forests and scenic drives. Ugh now I want to go to George. Thank you for all the memories 🎉🎉❤❤🎉🎉
Yup, the natural beauty on the Garden Route is incredible. We realise it every time we're there. I'm so glad our visit reminded you of good times, and it sounds like there are many! 🤩🌳⛰️🌊 It's awesome that you came back to George with the two of us today! 🚙😁
Hi Curtis Sonia and Dusty, we love the Garden Route and George is our absolute favourite, it's a fantastic place and just all round lekker people hey, safe journey ❤
Hi guys my impression of George are that its green and well organised amazing amount of shops. Lovely to hear Sonias stories of the Sunday school and her school also her brothers high school. The DRF church was imposing and well kept the parsonage was quaint love the little cottages. The Anglecan cathedral was great. Love the banter about the letters and the army (when i was in the army dear John letters were put on the notice board of the barracks how cruel lol) spotted a old bakkie with the guy holding the box on the back !!! The suburbs look neat and well established nice Sonia could see her old house. What a amazing surprise for you the transport museum loved the whole place a credit to the town! Interesting about the old slave tree love the description of new rennnaicanse .the woman's army school intriguing and Sonias memories of riding her bike .the fairlane 500 green with white top apsolute love it shame it was stolen!!! .it started as a out post for felling trèes 1777 mind blowing. George third 1811 the last king of USA lol .the quirky train restaurant with peacock's and springbok topped it off. I can see why you like George its a stunning place. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one
I'm always happy when you spot a bakkie! 😁 Your impressions of George echo ours, it really is an organised and very busy place! Both churches we visited were in great shape and the town seems to be generally well taken care of, which was fantastic to see. The Transport Museum was super interesting and a great surprise. 🚂🚗😍 Dear John letters on the noticeboard, those poor guys! 🥺✉️
It was an awesome surprise and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it too! 🤩🚂 I've never seen so many stunning machines under one roof and all in such great shape! The staff do a fantastic job to maintain that facility, Sonia was spot on to take us there! 🚙😁
Also been to George many times to visit friends and family, and visited the Transport Museum a few times...always interesting. Quite a few memories were floating back to me now while watching. Thanx
Amazing place definitely !!! .... for FYI : Sonja Herold grew up in a place called Nigel Gauteng .... so did Dorian Berry ( old SABC news announcer)..... the good old days !!!
Hello there 😊 Love George, it's so beautiful and green. Enjoyed the rain and also loved looking for Sonia's past home 🏡 which her parents built❤ 🎉 lovely suburb! Wow that park with all the trees 🌳 was fantastic. Thank you once again, enjoyed the trip with you guys 😂 God bless you and keep you safe always 🙏 ❤️ I thank The Lord for all the beauty He has blessed us with 🙌🦚🦜🌲🪻🌷⚘️🌹🌳🌻
There is an abundance of natural beauty in this town and surrounding area. 🌳⛰️🌊 We had fun too looking for Sonia's childhood home and she was so excited to have seen it again. 😍🏡 We didn't mind the rain too much, it was actually enjoyable exploring George in the rain. We appreciate you braving the wet weather to come along! 🚙☔
Hi you two! Greetings from the Waterberg Foothills. The approach through the pass took me to cloud nine. It was fabulous! I go to George for family visits but have never been to the Transport Museum. What an astonishing interesting place! Even in the rain George is a beautiful place with long, roads/streets lined with trees. The trip Sonia took you on was special. Of course nothing can outdo the mountains. Sonia's enlightening us on the long history on the place is again much appreciated, I would never have known it otherwise. Thank you for this interesting outing. I'm ready for the next one! Keep safe!
You're lucky to be able to visit the Waterberg and George all at once! 🚙🤩 Same here, we visit family every so often in George too, but never knew about the Transport Museum. But now we do, and I will for sure return there and spend more time there. The town is a beautiful one with misty mountains and bright green trees. It was fantastic! ⛰️🌳 Have a wonderful time and travel safe! 🚙😁
Hi Dustbugs. So different to see it through your eyes, been there a good few times in my days also rode the steam train + the little trolley cars that go up into the mountains, what lovely memories, Sonja I often drive past houses I lived in as a child just to see how they've changed & remeniss. Could hear your excitement, thank you both for an amazing trip 🚙🥰
Those do sound like wonderful memories of train / trolley rides into the mountains! 🚂⛰️ We don't often get to towns that we have a history with, so it was super special to take Sonia back to George and her old haunts. 🥰🏡💒
Hi Dust Bugs. I just realized something...have been living in Wilderness for 36 years and i used collect oakleaves from that famous Oak for my compost. An oak tree germinated in that compost and stands here in Wilderness Heights...and so the Tree lives on.
That is fantastic to hear! 😍🌳 We were rather sad at the demise of the old tree, but it's good to know that its offspring is thriving in a neighbouring town. Thank you for letting us know! 🚙👌🏻
@@DustBugsTravel thanks for taking us on such interesting historical journeys....just love what you do...and am learning so much...i cant travel but travell with you. 💕
Baie interessant ! vernaamlik die Spoorwegmuseum. My oorlede Pa het skoolgegaan by die Outeniqua Hoerskool in die 1930's. Ek was laas in George in 1998...toe was dit nog 'n lekker stil dorp.
Hi Curtis & Sonja, i really enjoy your channel. Been following you guys for a few months now . I'm from Hopefield & am so sorry i missed you guys, just to say hi. Blessings & safe travels guys.
We appreciate you watching our videos, I'm so happy you enjoy travelling with us. 🚙😁 We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to your beautiful town filled with super friendly folks. We met only a few during our visit. 😊
Another favourite place. Okay, the wonderful view from the top of the pass is still there, its just behind the rain right now! WE always used to joke about George number plate...CAW...cold and wet! Certainly no shortage of lovely churches in George. Well do I remember the days of snail-mail. My best friend and I would write these long entertaining letters to each other full of hilarious drawings. And getting a love letter from a boyfriend! Oooh! The excitement! To hold and touch something that he held and touched, it was....erotic!! I had a boyfriend in the army when I was 16, he was in Bloemfontein, and me in Bellville. Beautiful streets lined with old trees. And choo-choos ! Oh wow! My dad would so have enjoyed that museum! Oh, that red thing on the front of the loco is a cow-catcher. In case there are cows on the tracks. Love the gogga! And the royal coaches. THis was soooo special. Thank you very much. The old slave tree looks like a giant kettie!🤣Interesting story. Very well done for an excellent visit to George, in spite of the "dreeezzle". Oh please visit Hoekwil!
I can't even believe there was a time folks used to write letters! I can count mine on my one hand, I think. You seem to remember those letter days fondly, especially the ones from a boyfriend. 😁✉️ Your dad wouldn't have wanted to leave the Transport Museum, I found it difficult to myself. 😍🚂 I'm very happy you enjoyed our visit to George, it's a beautiful town! 🚙🌳
Mooi dorp, mooi omgewing en mooi kerke

That Transport Museum is a treasure trove of nostalgia! I can only imagine how those old coaches smell, let alone all those cars.
Thanks for the tour!

I bet you have great memories of George, just like my darling wife! 🚙🤩
@@DustBugsTravelWas a lovely place to live. Just a bit too verkrampte for me.
Fun fact:George is the second largest town in the Western Cape, after Cape Town that is.
Yup, we mentioned that in our video too! 🚙😁
The car registration code for this area was known as “CAW” and we always called it “cold and wet”. I don’t remember many dry days! 😂😂
And it was no different on the day of our visit either! ☔🥶
It is very true: the registration number for cars is CAW= cold and wet!!
And it was both those things on the day of our visit. 🥶☔
So you did not stop at the 4 p passes lookout point on the 4th built pass the name Outeniekwa pass.
