I believe the star ending is canon, if you guys read up on the lore and tuned into what Misty was saying with the tarot’s, you’d know CDPR wouldn’t just leave these characters behind in this entry. Especially Johnny and V. Crazy how Johnny more devoted to you than your “friends” we’re in some of the endings. Viktor, mama Welles and Misty are all true friends and family. Chances are high that V and Johnny will be in the sequel, albeit dying or finding a cure in the six months V has. They wouldn’t just mention those six months unless they we’re going to use it in some way for the next game. Think about it, all endings could’ve been V and Johnny dead.

I don't think they forget you. They just assumed you're dead because who wouldn't be after not reaching out for them for 2 years? People do get new priorities. You can still visit them though but of course not in the game.
If you go to Panam at the aldecaldo camp and talk to her about the DLC events face to face, her dialogue still has that holocall filter over it even though she's physically right there. Not sure if the other characters have this issue either but it might just be a dev oversight
