    I wouldn't use that as final product tbh. The positioning is much too even, so it looks not very convincing.

      Well, make it a node (a group), duplicate it, make it single user and change the settings, then combine them. Also, the voronoi's position or color outputs can be used as a mask when you put it in a math node set to greater than, then multiply it to the texture itself. I guess it's just the root of the technique he gave us, you can push it further.

    Nathan... Why didn't you plug it into the roughness, instead of base colour? I felt like that's how fingerprints are done... Any particular reason why?

    • @Lanaur_
      @Lanaur_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It can be both, since it's some dirty things on your screen, it's another material on top of the screen one, so it has it's own color and rougness. But usually just the roughness is enough for that yeah.

    This opened up retro textile patterns possibilities. Many Thanks.

    Nice pattern! But i do think the pattern should connect to roughness and not to base color for a more correct shader...

    I just want to say that imperfection effect like this should be extremely subtle and it's very easy to over do

    i think they should be a bit more subtle and less evenly spaced but good tutorial nontheless

      You can do that yourself by plugging it with a Noise Texture into a Color Ramp (set to constant). Plug that into a Multiply node with the other socket plugged in by the last Less Than node. That'll give you a fair amount of control over where the finger appears. You can experiment further by swapping the noise texture with some other one.
      Oh, and don't forget to plug the noise with the mapping node.

    Why didn't you distort it using a waves texture? I've made a very similar thing in the past using a wave texture (set to the rings mode) and it looks far more like actual fingerprints.

  • @tiagotiagot

    Instead of making it white diffuse, wouldn't it make more sense to input the fingerprint map into the roughness input?

  • @NicolaGennaro3D
    @NicolaGennaro3D 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the person who "touched" the object must have burned his hands really badly !
    A wave texture set on rings and a noise behind sqashed a bit on one axis do a better job .

    Finally, something about math node, thanks, bit please next time describe more about the math you added.

  • @gottagowork

    Are you *sure* you want to use the white noise node this way? I wouldn't. White noise on a gradient is coherently unstable.
    First note on the node from the manual states: "The slightest difference in seed values would result in completely different outputs."

    Question and hopefully I can get an answer. How do I stop a point light from reflecting on glass?

    • @MrYomaaaan
      @MrYomaaaan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roughness, all the way up to 1.

    • @Padmaprabhan2004
      @Padmaprabhan2004 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can add various levels of roughness to the glass may be( using a texture like Noise/Musgrave and plugging it with roughness using a colour ramp)

    Great videos, quality stuff. May I say that more of the procedural tutorial is the result of you taking the procedural course? I'm asking because you mentioned that on blendernest podcast.

    Regrettable that Blender has now removed the Musgrave texture node. I'm trying to recreate this using just the Noise texture, but so far I'm not having any luck.
    EDIT: Be sure to use the Fac output, not the Color. Musgrave only had a Fac output to begin with. Change the Noise from fBM to Heteo Terrain, and it should work.

    It looks pretty bad to be honest. Usually people don't just tap but also swipe on the phone. There are older and newer marks of your fingers. And newer ones overlay the older. Fingerprints are less visible in general.
    But still, your video is a good starting point.
