    Xboxes are incredibly resilient. I've had very few that couldn't be repaired. It's always recommended to reflow the solder joints on the PSU plug. Even if the joints don't look bad.

    Glad I found this channel. Good stuff man. I always found it oddly satisfying when opening up a console that’s never been worked on before.

    What was the rotary tool you were using to scrape the solder mask away?

      Its a "mini drill pen" I don't see the exact one on amazon, but I did get mine from aliexpress. Be sure to get the one with the grinding bits.

    This is a common issue on CRT TV's as well. In this case it is both thick legs and force when you pull and insert the power cable.

    Microsoft had new cables that had the surge protector looking thing. On the end mine has it was made in September 2005

    I'm confused what the metal lines are next to the solder joints on the back of the PSU and how come you soldered them to the solder joint when they weren't before?

    I heard that one day, a sizzle. I tore it down and found the power leads on the supply board had cracked. No leaded solder apparently. Easy fix, and I claimed that gfci brick, lol. Cleaded the dvd lens too.

      Nice to see you saved an XBOX console. For sure a cheap fix and an easy one since you can solder.

    Just picked up a fully decked out xecuter setup. Had to swap hard drive, disk drive, and now fix the power supply 😅

    Hello, the video is very interesting, but I that make me thinking, did the original xbox have power supplay replacement ?
    I use for my Sega Saturn and Dreamcast the Pico PSU as a replacement for their old power suplay, so I'm kind curious to know if the Xbox have that kind of "mod".

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs

      I want to say someone was working on one, but I've not seen anything on it in a while. I do know a company or two did sell aftermarket ones and converters. People have also modded PC PSUs to be used for the XBOX as well.

    i dont like trying to remove and replace the stickers because i dont want to hide that someone has been in it, ya never know how long youll have a console and i dont want someone down the line to feel duped thinking they have a minty unopened console

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs

      I have heard of people doing it and while I understand the reasoning, I think it would only make sense if its not an official looking sticker. Perhaps one with the repair companies name or something, ya know?

    Is this power firetrap hazzard a NTSC problem or is this also on PAL (my region) ??
    Roaches brrrrr and i would like to see a follow up on this console repair.

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs

      My understanding is the issue affected all regions the XBOX was released in. I'll keep this XBOX in mind for a future video.

    How do you take the rust off the original xbox RF shields. Gracias amigo.

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs

      Sanding is probably the quickest and easiest. There are a few chemical options made by, loctite and evpo-rust, but they cost more than sandpaper and smell pretty bad.

      You could. Take note of the grounding standoffs, as most people paint over them and they no longer make contact with the board.

    Hidden? this not happens only when the xbox became old, i received a letter from microsoft on 2002 just two months after launch date to replace the power cable connector to the safeguard one 😳that cuts the power if shortcircuit because 1.0 can actually BURN ON FIRE if short circuit 🤣 the original AC power connector with current breaker is the best friend your xbox can had, as the one you show on the thumbnail, i got two xbox fried for the same danger you said 😥

      I personally never had an XBOX with this issue, but I did get the safety power adapter from MS back in the day. I imagine it was more common if the console was moved around often.

  • @ZEX606

    So that's why my first Xbox made that static noise in sparks and Microsoft sent me that power adapter they new the whole time lol

      I think I got my adapter before I started experiencing those issues.
      I've always wondered if anyone sent their console for warranty to MS for that issue.

      You should be able to find one around your house, unless ofc you want one of those safety power cords.
