Visually yes; technically no. That’s why the completed OS (a.k.a Windows 7) was released… Maybe they released this because they were running low on development capital (?) I felt ripped off and didn’t pay for another Windows OS upgrade after that-including my Windows 7. Vista turned me into a pirate 🏴☠️
@@sidneyblondell Vista was very good, but it computers of the era just weren't generally speaking up-to-date to use it. Vista after SP2 is essentially W7. It had bugs, but after SP1 and especially after SP2 it was really solid. W7 was simply because Vista got so tainted name at it's launch.
I remember my brother and I saving up cash to buy a desktop with Vista OS. Finally, in March 2007 - only a couple of months after the release of Vista - we had a combined $900 dollars which allowed us to buy a Gateway GT5404 model from Best Buy 15 years later, I still have the GT5404 (Just for Nostalgia, not my main pc of course) and it works perfectly :)
Personally, I think the biggest feature Vista added was search in the start menu. You really notice it in older versions where you can't just start typing and find the program you want. You have to go wandering through folders looking for stuff.
I'm from China. I got my first personal laptop in year 2007, a Dell Inspiron 1520 that came with Vista preinstalled. Throughout my university years I don't remember it had crashed for even once (although I was in transition to Linux at the same time). Most of my classmates got their first computers in university and many of them were intrigued by the fresh Aero look of Vista and they craved for laptops that could run Vista smoothly, and unfortunately not many of the affordable laptops were able to. I was fortunate enough to get a laptop with good performance, and Vista had not disappointed me.
I have fond memories of Vista. When I first saw it back during launch, I saw those glass UI and transparency effects and thought "We're finally living in the future". My favourite OS of all time, even with all its faults.
My current OS is Windows 8.1 Professional made to look almost exactly like Vista including Aero. (I can easily make it look like 7 as well.) None of 8.1's tablet BS, but I still get the little nice features of 8.1 such as the improved Task Manager. And that will probably be the last Windows OS I will ever daily drive. I already have MX Linux installed on the desktop. When 8.1 gets too old, it's gonna be Linux now from here on out. It really sucks because I used to love Windows. I have full retail copies of every version from 2000 Professional up to 8.1 Pro, and some Windows 10 keys, but Windows 10 sucked, and Microsoft wants to make it even worse with 11, so whatever... It's sad but time stops for no man I guess.
I built a new computer with 8 GB of ram (4 sticks of 2 GB each) and loaded a brand new Vista license with the expectation that it would be able to use all 8 GB of RAM. It did in fact recognize it, but Vista crashed 2-3 times a day. It was extremely frustrating with blue screen errors that gave me little clue as to why. Finally, I removed all but one stick of RAM leave 2 GB and the system was stable from then on out. Sadly though, I was no better off than Windows XP with the 2 GB of RAM. -------- Finally, Windows 7 was released. With Windows 7, I put all of the exact same sticks of RAM back in the machine and the same hardware with Windows 7 was solid as a rock. That was my first Windows OS that truly worked with large amounts of RAM and didn't randomly crash throughout the day. Vista was a scam and Microsoft should have given away Windows 7 for free to all the folks that who had previously bought Vista.
Why everyone hating Vista? That's reason: for 2007 computers, windows Vista is so big, and that's why it's system is lagging and crashing. But when new computers apear, it's start being best system. And... Windows 7 gets released!! After that everyone just forgot about Vista.
There’s something kinda charming about this era of MS packaging, both the Vista boxes and the Office ones have a really bulky/solid feel to them. I was on MS Insiders before Vista launched and submitted some bug reports. Ended up getting a copy of Ultimate as a gift, pretty neat. I was one of those weirdos that really liked XP 64 so when they announced a ‘first-class’ 64 bit OS I got super excited. As you can imagine, with hardware that could take advantage of it I had no problems with being ‘Vista capable.’ IMO the problem people described with Vista (asking underpowered PCs to run it) kinda continues. Just recently my mom was looking to buy a new (new!) laptop that was reasonably spec’ed yet had a 5400 rpm hdd? In 2021? Like what?
Not really .I had a Vista capable laptop and the requirements advertised my laptop as it being capable - and Toshiba realised a BIOS update for vista. Issue was that on day one it was a mess. Microsoft had to release so many updates for it in the first year alone because of the backlash, and because it actually had issues.
@@HughesyTech "Vista Capable" branding is the issue here. "Vista Capable" actually meant it was just windows xp aimed hardware that they THOUGHT could run Vista. Because microsoft's "Minimum specs" weren't really truthful. And the drivers for said hardware (made by hardware manufacturers) were often lazy quick jobs trying to make it run on Vista. Which is what Windows Updates actually fixed over time with microsoft releasing their own vista drivers for them. All in all it's very sucky. But the bigger problem wasn't the OS itself. It was bad (maybe even malicious, with the distinction between "Vista Capable" and "Made for Vista") marketing and poor support. I mean. Windows 7 was literally just a reskinned Vista with updates applied, but by the time that came out, hardware had caught up to the requirements of running it. So that did well.
I used Vista when I was young, we used to have an old pc given to us with Windows 98 and when we finally bought a brand new machine in 2007 it had vista. It was great and I never understood why people hated it. I think the biggest issue was that it required much more powerful machines than XP and people tried running it on under powered hardware and hated it because it ran poorly, but on appropriate machines it worked just fine.
Also graphics card manufacturers (nVidia) they didn't update drivers for the new is and special effects so it was also a cause for bad performance the drivers weren't optimised yet
Same, I hated it when I used it on my older XP computer at the time but when I got a newer one for my birthday in 2008, which came with vista, I loved it.
Same, while myself, despite having my skepticism towards Vista, I used Windows XP and later Windows 7. Nowadays I have since been declared a Windows XP user and Windows 7 user in exile, probably due to my usage of Windows 10, which I don't appreciate it in my opinion.
It's a pity that SSD's weren't yet a thing in 2007. The speed and performance advantage would have done a lot to ease the perception of Vista. It really was the 1st OS that made you realise just how bad mechanical drives were at running a complex OS performance wise. Vista also introduced a whole bunch of tech changes and improvements still used today.
Vista is still the best looking version of Windows for me. I remember when some new computers with this system arrived at our school. It looked so fresh, futuristic and appealing compared to XP. And all those transform packs that change the look of XP to Vista.
It's a timeless design as I'd like to put it, I still prefer Vista's aero over 7's aero myself, thankfully Windows 7 is very themeable so it is fairly easy to make it look like Vista. (shoutout to Octal450 for maintaining the most accurate Vista theme for 7 on DeviantArt)
I remember putting Vista on my editing computer in 2008. It was a very well spec'd out computer for the time, quad core CPU, 8GB RAM, and because of that I found Vista to be a joy to use, the Aero theme was awesome and I actually used the widgets that everyone hated, I thought they were useful. My biggest complaint was all of the security popups, but I think they fixed that in later updates.
I'm with you, but I got Vista Ultimate when it launched. I had a AMD Quad FX, with 4 GB of ram, and it ran very well. In February 2008, I upgraded to AMD Phenom Quad 9700, with 8GB of ram, and Vista ran absolutely fantastic. It was fast, stable, and a great machine. A small note here. I noticed also that people had more problems in Vista 32bit then they did in 64bit, which is weird.
That's basically the biggest issue - it's a really heavy OS for the majority of PCs available at the time. Doesn't help when MS decided to slap it to nearly anything at the time, no matter how weak is it. The "Works with Windows Vista" sticker at the time equals to "Run away as far as possible from the machine".
@@ZX3000GT1 It was mostly the drivers from the 3rd parties. NVIDIA having the most unstable drivers for some reason. I understand why Vista had the negative reception it did. But I don't think people remember that Vista was largely developed in 2 years, after the disasters of Longhorn. I truly feel that Windows 7 was just a huge service pack for Vista. If you use them side by side, they are very similar.
Vista is one of my favorite Windows versions purely based on the aesthetics alone. Perhaps it's nostalgic because it's the first OS I used back when i was a very young child first discovering what computers were, so its aura invokes very dreamlike nostalgia for me. Heck, I've been using Vista default wallpapers for recent OS parody projects of mine, because I just cant get enough of the feels.
Hearing "Vista" and "young child" being used in the same paragraph makes me feel just a bit old when I remember that our computer labs in elementary school were comprised of Apple II systems and that the first PC I personally owned in high school was a 486 with DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1. Of course, I was nearly 30 by the time Vista came out... 😂
I remember getting a laptop with Vista around 2011, and it was a really good experience. I didn't have many problems and the aero theme was pure eyecandy.
The Aero UI was really artistic, even in today's standard. Actually I was not upset by Vista at all. Never had big issues using it, beautiful UI. I could really feel the upgrade from XP.
I always loved the vista look. But it’s functionality wasn’t there. It required so much hardware specs that most XP users didn’t have. But it didn’t deserve the hate it received.
And honestly, by the time the Vista SP2 and the Platform Update came out, it was basically just Windows 7. For the most part Windows 7 was just rebranded Vista with a few extra features, its just by the time 7 came out, the hardware and software have matured quite a bit.
Longhorn features overview would be a nice topic for a video! 23:45 One of the most iconic things in Win7 for the people who grew up with it, that's what it was. The cake-baking minigame is the classic.
@@gamerboivcr4742 yeah thats the one! Purple Place. Nostalgia. Me and my brother used to play that on my old Toshiba Sattelite L350-235 when we were kids.
@@gamingnubs7628 I have my own experience using Vista and I never had any problems with it, but that was with the service packs. Vista just had a bad launch.
Yeah, it was a little unfair. I worked as a PC tech around this time. I STILL think Vista is still one of the most visually pleasingly OS ever. To run it smoothly with all the glass effects just took so much resources for the hardware of the time. I agree with you. It didn't totally suck. I love the GUI and the glass effects when EVERYTHING is turned on.
14:30 I always had a great experience with Vista, I’m 90% sure that’s because my dad got a beefy computer so he could run AutoCad for his job, which most likely brute forced through a lot of issues, but to me, windows 7 always seemed like a re release of vista with some upgrades and they gave some time for the hardware to catch up to what they were trying to achieve. Hell I’m so nostalgic for vista, it’s my username
Not exactly. Windows 7 did _look_ like a slightly tweaked Vista, with a better UAC implementation. But, under the hood, the codebase had been cleaned up considerably as part of the MinWin project. This began with Windows Vista, as the core team had decided there was too much inter-layer dependency in the Windows codebase. But that detangling effort occurred over the course of development for Vista, Server 2008, and into Windows 7.
To this day, I still can’t find a UI as beautiful as Vista/Windows 7 or iOS 5. It’s just something about it that gives a professional clean, but still human look to it. Tired of these Fisher Price ass icons and sterile designs that most UI have now.
Absolutely agree vista did have one of the most beautiful UI designs ever to come out. I personally shared some of the hate initially because I experienced Vista in some machines that quite frankly were not up to scratch for vista and which I think a lot of the hate originates from once I had a decent PC I run vista till flawlessly till 2014
Windows 7 was indeed the fixed version where Vista was a beta version at best. I wish I could un-buy it (I also bought the Ultimate version 🥲) and buy some AirPods instead 🎧
gotta love listening to windows histories while we upgrade windows instead of cutting out the process and jump right into the desktop. Thanks Michael MJD, you know how to make pretty vibey videos^^
the fact that no one is talking about is, Windows Vista wasn't a failure, it was a transition OS which helped us to develop software with appealing UI.
Luckly I missed the whole "Vista is bad" moment and I enjoyed it fully when it came out. To this day I consider Vista to be the best Windows released to date. I mean technically speaking 7 was better, but Vista's UI was just the perfect thing.

Windows Vista will always feel special for me. It was what my family's first internet-connected computer ran, and since we bought it in 2010, the hardware ran perfectly fine with it. Never had any of the issues with performance that was common with XP-era hardware.
I still remember the endless hate Vista got, and how great XP was, but I was so happy to get rid of XP that I never understood the reverence for the OS. Aero was amazing for it's time, and if was so much fun to grab custom themes and play with the widjits. Windows 7, or Vista 2.0, was my favorite OS, and I've used computers since Win 95.

@@TheLivingCatastrophe Windows 8 was better, but reccomend to use 8.1 at that time. Maybe everybody didn't like the Start menu itself, but actually the Windows itself was a same except for ARM version (Yes, Windows 8 has ARM version called Windows RT)
My very first videos were actually edited on a Vista laptop, in Movie Maker. It honestly wasn't some sort of evil, diabolical OS. It did what it needed to do for me. Regardless, it's all interesting Microsoft and Windows history.
Vista is my favorite OS. It was so beautiful when i first saw it back in 2008. It was something new and unique compared to the XP. I had a powerful PC back then and never had a problem with the Vista.
There was nothing wrong with Microsoft Windows Vista. I never had any issues with the software and was quite happy using Vista back when it came out in January 2007. I then upgraded my Vista system free of charge to Windows 8. 🙂
honestly for me, the windows vista layout and vibe was part of my childhood. and for all of the windows versions, i was always sad to see them go, and annoyed to have to get used to a whole new layout and feature set for each new updated version, but ultimately i think they're all good in their own ways- i even really liked windows 8 because you could make it super colorful and personalized!
I remember having a 30day evaluation copy of vista when I was a teenager and having to re-install it on my laptop every 30 days because it was the only OS I had. Gosh knows how I had the patience for that.
I find Vista to be very underrated. Vista ran on the first computer I had as my own back in 2008, and it ran fine on the hardware I had. Only problem I ever had was a bug with DirectSound, which was fixed with SP2. Other than that, I never had any issues. It was stable and got the job done.
Headset Guy This was the first time i used the HDMi audio true the Nvida card, or Nvidia Storm sound? They fixed that very good, i got the Dolby Digital 7.1 running without the service pack!
Fun fact: Beta builds of Microsoft Windows Vista (Longhorn, so to speak), even late post-reset builds, such as 5718, actually did have direct upgrade paths for as old as Windows 98, and also Windows 2000 and ME.
You are right about Vista SP1, it was really stable with a great experience. I think the bad reputation of Vista may be related to hardware transition. Any computer with a single CPU and 512 MB memory was able to run XP, but for Windows Vista 2 cores and 2 GB of ram were the unofficial requirements for a desktop usage, more for gaming. In the times when Windows 7 was released, everybody already had 2 or 4 cores CPU with many GB of memory, this probably explains why nobody critizied its performance.
Yes it was sold in laptops and desktops that were almost too bad for smoothly running XP, which explains much of the hate. You needed a top quality consumer machine the first 2-3 years in order to not suffer moving from XP to Vista
Windows Vista also introduced the WIM format, which completely changed (for the better) how Windows was deployed at scale. The WIM format is still superior to any other deployment technology I've used. And getting a Windows Server running Windows Deployment Server made the deployment process so painless while still able to accommodate all kinds of different hardware. I was really impressed with this tech - it would be really nice to see something like this in the FOSS world.
I've used Vista for years and never had any problems with it that I could remember. In fact, a few of my older machines STILL have it installed on them and I use them every now and then to play older games.
I remember when i was little, windows Vista's name itself made me think that it is just beautiful, and when i first saw it installed on to a old fujitsu laptop, looked even more beautiful, and the feeling of old windows aero was just simply beautiful... .
I remember when it was released. I had a cuatom built gaming pc, so the upgrade was flawless as I knew what I was doing and just did a fresh install. Had an nVidia card, so I had to use the beta drivers. It was to me, the biggest upgrade ever done since windows 95. One thing I do miss though and wish they'd bring back, is video wallpapers, dream something was called. But Vista was beautiful to look at from every aspect, and I always defended it and blamed dumb users for the negative feedback
Yeah windows 10 had dreamscenes but I believe that was locked only to the ultimate version of Windows Vista. If you want video wallpapers on a modern PC I recommend looking up the program Wall Paper Engine.
Victor Estrada A year before the official Vista release, Nvidia was able to give a good DX 9 and DX 10 driver, we waited for the official release what we never got, but it was supported on beta anyway already! Better x64 then Xp! Dx10
When I was a younger teen I was really excited about the Vista release and even begged my mom to go to staples and get an upgrade copy of the basic version. I thought it was pretty cool compared to Xp.
I upgraded from XP to Vista pretty early on and never really had a problem with it. The UAC challenges were annoying and I probably had a driver issue or two. I remember thinking, “yeah, this is better” when I upgraded to Windows 7, but Vista never bothered me while I was on it.
My mom's old Toshiba Satellite had Vista on it - and thus Vista is the OS of my childhood. I loved it, myself, and even tho I use that laptop as a server now, I kinda wish I haven't uninstalled Vista from it.
I have very fond memories of Vista. When I got my first PC in 2007/8 it had XP because my father insisted. But I really didn't like it. All my friends kept talking about how cool Vista is and I really wanted it too. So, one day a friend gave me his install disc and I was blown away. I cannot understand the criticism. Vista worked very well and it only ever crashed on me once. Whenever I think of my teen years I think of Vista. Though with Windows 8 I switched to macOS. With Windows 10 I switched back and after 6 months I noticed that I just like macOS better. But to this day, Vista still reserves a special place in my memories.
I dont understand why people hate Windows Millennium edition. It has features which could save files from being lost forever. The theme looked good (even when its so similiar to windows 95, 98 and 2000). I also really liked Vista. It didnt deserve the hate. The same goes for windows ME
@@goomba-64 From personal experience I remember it crashing a lot, but that might have been hardware related. I used Windows 2000 after that and it was a lot more stable.
@user-lt6it4gv2j I installed window's Me recently to try it. Did have a issue with drivers for a creative sound card but when I switched to on board sound on the old P4 motherboard it works ok. The issue is it often doesn't like windows 98 drivers.
I used Vista a couple years back and had no trouble with it. I really enjoyed the interface and the performance. I really don't understand all the bad reviews.
Incredible, the first time in my life that I see a physical package of an operating system open in front of my eyes, I always wanted to know what was in that little box that I always saw hanging in supermarkets, thanks for the video! (PDT: I have never bought an operating system)
In 2007 I built a PC from scratch for the first (and last) time and included Vista Ultimate. Now I'm a professional 3D artist so my pc specs were pretty high. I also bought a laptop layer that year that come with Vista, again with high end CPU, GPU, etc. So it was perfect for me.
I actually really liked Vista. It was preinstalled on my dad's really nice silver Acer laptop (I don't remember the exact model, but it was nice) and I believe it was actually kinda speedy for the time and Vista ran flawlessly on it, I loved it. I was really young but Purble Place was my jam 100%
Despite how unstable the OS was and my laptop at the time taking less of it (over my naive 11 self lol), I have such strong memories with it. The Aero UI design lives in my head rent free.
I loved Vista back in the day. I was running it with 2 drives in raid 0 and it was extremely stable and ran super fast with the drive array I was rocking.
I know Vista gets a lot of negative feedback, but I went from Windows 2000 to Vista and it was amazing. The sleek UI, the aero stuff, the neat visuals and all that. Just felt so futuristic and all that. I was finally using the latest tech.
I remember as a kid I had ALWAYS wanted the Vista Ultimate version to upgrade the family Windows XP PC. I would always look at site's stores looking at the box & videos on seeing all of Vista's features. I also remember I modded that same family PC to instead make it look like Vista, before it caught a virus & we had to re-install XP. Seeing the unboxing is like fulfilling the want I had as a kid. Hearing about Vista's initial shortcomings is a bit bittersweet tho, I never really looked into why it had its reputation.
I love Vista even with all the hate that people had for it. It's one of my favorites. Once again I feel the reason for all the hate was that it was just ahead of its time. Great Video
Windows Vista was (at the time) my first modern version of windows on my first modern laptop (prior I was using 98se on my dad's old work laptop). Vista really got me into computer hardware as upgrading my Compaq Presario f700 from 1 to 2gb of ram made it so much more usable. I feel like if Vista never happened and Microsoft jumped straight from XP to 7, 7 would have the same reputation that Vista got, as by the time 7 rolled around, hardware manufactures and software developers were used to working with Vista, so the shift went a lot smoother
I used Vista on a VM to see it (i had Aero), and I can say that it was, one of the Best Windows Experiences, if it wasn't the best The tons of features we got in Vista is the right meaning of new Windows release, it camed with new kernel, unlike what Microsoft call it "Windows 11"
I genuinely liked Vista. I was young when we got the Home Premium upgrade and my PC was too slow for Aero, but I understood that. The overall experience was pleasant and when I heard it was "the worst OS yet" I was shocked. When I bought my first GPU with grass-cutting money, the ATI HD 5450, Aero blew me away. Good times.
I remember getting a brand new laptop that came with Vista. And like you said so many times in the video from all the negativity I heard I was almost ready to just wipe it and put XP on it right away. But I gave it a chance and it was good for several years for me. Remember the one main thing that people were complaining about was the UAC prompts. Microsoft gave it super duper enhanced security. People were like "every single thing I click on I have to say yes to accept it". LoL
Still the most underrated and elegant operating system ever released. If you had a modern machine, it ran like a clockwork and was much more stable than Windows XP, I have nothing but good memories from using it on my Vaio laptop, good times.
It was quite stable towards the end, once you did all the many millions of updates. It was an interesting time with Vista. I actually liked it. Windows 7 for me was my fave with my laptop. I still miss Windows 7. But Vista was nice concept and I liked the style of it, the desktop wallpapers and gadgets, the taskbar etc. UAC was the single biggest mistake. Not to mention the constant crashing vista graphic drivers that seemed to plague it in its life. But i really liked Vistas aesthetic layout.
I had a gamer class system in 2007 so I had no problems upgrading and running Vista. I don't give a rats ass what other people think, Windows Vista rocked! It's still the most beautiful version of windows ever put out! Buttons and all were glassed and glossed. It was visually stunning to look at. I hope at some point the Vista Glossy interface makes a comeback!
My family PC had Vista when I was a kid and I only remember good things about it. Very nostalgic over it tbh haha, no performance issues that I recall.
I loved Windows Vista aesthetics. The OS was 2 years ahead of time. When Vista was introduced, most PCs were running 1 or 2GB RAM and single core CPU's. By the time of Vista SP2, dual core CPU's and 2 and 4 GB RAM was becoming the standard. The laptop I got in 2008 - an HP with Turion 64 X2 TL-60 and 2 GB RAM which I later upgraded to 4 GB *never* crashed on me.
People who call Window Vista the worst version of Windows are those who tried to upgrade from Windows xp on their underpowered computers. People who got fresh installation of windows vista on their suitably powered computers had no problem with it. Personally I used Windows vista business on my laptop from 2007 to 2012 till I got another laptop with windows 7 in that. The windows vista laptop is still working with Windows vista still installed in it.
I had Vista Home Premium. With a dozen registry changes, the extra features could be enabled without installing anything extra. As an added bonus, Vista also had the tools from the Server 2003 Powertoys pack under the hood. I could use telnet, ssh, ftp, robocopy, etc from the command prompt. When I got a windows 7 machine not having these tools felt like a massive downgrade Also, MIcrosoft solitaire collection on Windows 10 is awesome. I downloaded the android version for my Samsung phone and find it nice to have my levels and progress through the collections synced between the two devices
The best version of Windows was XP, the second best was Vista. Yeah, I didn't mind Vista. I did have driver issues with my printer and scanner. Both were older hardware but they were still working. HP said time to upgrade your printer and scanner. In my case, HP was the villain, not Vista.
I remember using Vista when I was young on my dad's laptop and it had no problems at all. I dont remember much because I was like 4 years old. I know it sounds crazy but I really used it at that age and it was so cool with the aero theme and stuff. Later when I was 6-7 the laptop got upgraded to Windows 7. It was still good but even to this day I miss Vista. I'm really glad I didn't know the bad stuff for Vista and enjoyed the best childhood. The laptop is still alive and when I look at the specs it was too good for its time. I dont remember every spec but it was pretty good. Now its slow as heck and cant open Chrome fast. Until the end of 2019 I used this laptop and always thought it was the best pc. Then my parents finally had enough money to buy a new laptop which Im using to this day. It's a Win10 laptop but I still want to downgrade to Vista or Win7 because of the memories. All that aside the main problem of Vista was its timing. It could be better at marketing even more than Win7. Thanks if you read the whole thing! My childhood matters a lot for me and I just wanted to share my opinion. :)
Absolutely love Vista, the most beautiful Windows ever! It's criminally underrated... It was night and day compared to the boring old XP that looked outdated even when it came out, and became utterly boring since I've been looking at it for many years... I even themed my XP to Vista on my 1st machine. Now I have the urge to buy a boxed version like this and install it on something...
@@trakzerak735 I don't really hate it, I just find the GUI lame and boring (except with Royale or Zune theme). The system itself was okay at the time, I've used the same installation of it for 10 years on my first proper desktop machine.

Agreed
I'd say we haven't had a Windows version that sleek, with that much character. I really miss Vista.
In 2021? Like what?
I have a few Office suites with this packaging and I always loved it
Yeah I loved Vista, it was great.
5400 RPM? not ssd?
Windows 98 SE was my favorite (besides the BSODs and "illegal operations").
Also graphics card manufacturers (nVidia) they didn't update drivers for the new is and special effects so it was also a cause for bad performance the drivers weren't optimised yet
You are literally my twin
Yeah, I got my first laptop in 2008 and it was with Windows Vista. Such a good experience!
@@cyberp0et hahah illigal operations
I used Vista extensively when I was younger, I never really had any issues, it was a very aesthetically pleasing OS in my opinion.
Same. I miss aero

Agreed yes it is the best!
Glad you like my theme!
I prefer Aero from Windows 7
Yes! I agree! I love the teal green blue look. I like the teal menu bar compared to 7s light blue.
I have windows 7 and i transformed my system with these packs, love it sooo much
I remember putting Vista on my editing computer in 2008.
Yes they fixed it in sp2!
you could disable that yourself too, I believe in windows 10 in the uac popup there's a tab where it takes you to settings so you can change it easier
Used Vista on my first desktop pc. And it really wasn't that bad honestly.
I always loved the vista look. But it’s functionality wasn’t there. It required so much hardware specs that most XP users didn’t have. But it didn’t deserve the hate it received.
@@ultramagnushurts the thing with vista was that, the OS got released on 2007, a time where x64 pcs weren't a thing
And honestly, by the time the Vista SP2 and the Platform Update came out, it was basically just Windows 7. For the most part Windows 7 was just rebranded Vista with a few extra features, its just by the time 7 came out, the hardware and software have matured quite a bit.
@@ultramagnushurts Yeah i had a top of the line computer and could do it and with sp2 it also had almost no bugs.

Windows Vista has the most beautiful user interface, glossy and shiny and Brink Brink!
Vista is 7's older brother who often gets in trouble for his pompous actions
I never really got the negative hype surrounding Vista. When I got my first Vista machine, I loved it. The aesthetic remains a favourite.
I really liked the later updates of Vista. It started to morph into 7. If your hardware was up to snuff it was a pretty modern experience.
I always wished had a official Windows CD like that ;(
My favourite packaging. Got one too. I do love the Vista Ultimate.
Thank you for using me!
When I got a windows 7 machine not having these tools felt like a massive downgrade
Also, MIcrosoft solitaire collection on Windows 10 is awesome.
Windows Vista and windows 7 will always be my favorite versions of windows
Damn the Vista Aero UI was the "sport car" of Microsoft desktop environments
I had this.. Vista rocked for me. I guess I just had the PERFECT hardware setup, but for me Vista was great!
This is the first time I see someone actually hating XP!
@@trakzerak735 I don't really hate it, I just find the GUI lame and boring (except with Royale or Zune theme).
The system itself was okay at the time, I've used the same installation of it for 10 years on my first proper desktop machine.
@@MetalTrabant Now that's something else!
To be fair, I've never had a problem with Windows Vista...
I just can't believe Vista is 15 years old, seems like just yesterday i first used it
Vista is still my favourite desktop OS, no questions asked. My family got a relatively low-end Acer desktop running it in March of 2007, and we didn’t even stop using it until Firefox stopped supporting it in 2018. Despite only having a GeForce 6100 and single core Athlon 64, I never had a problem with Vista’s performance
