Like everyone else here is saying - this is an amazingly digestible breakdown of liver enzyme analysis. I actually feel like I have some rough idea of how to interpret values now. Thank you!
Seems way too dramatic bearing in mind everyone often has raised alt.... with every course of pain killers, pub visit, protein shakes use, junk food lifestyle and many passing infections. None of these raises represent liver damage... so maybe remove the damage and put back the function where it belongs
For me, my higher than normal liver function tests revealed a silent problem that was going on. My ALT and AST started getting out of range growing higher each year (Over a three year period by the lab work results). My ALT hit 153 and AST was 88. ALT by the chart was over 113 past normal and AST was 40 points over. So what was causing my Liver to start hitting the panic button??? Well, an ultrasound of the liver showed the Renal Cell Carcinoma that was growing on my right kidney. MRI showed the tumor growing on my left kidney. From what I have read, the ALT enzyme reacts when the RCC gets into the renal artery. Well, two surgeries later, loss of right kidney and a piece of my left my numbers are back in range. I was in good shape, non-drinker, non-smoker, exercised everyday. If your numbers are getting out of whack and your Dr's tell you to stop eating fast food (That's what the dude told me, turned out to be Cancer) just make sure to keep looking at the problem. My bad Liver Function tests saved my life because I kept trying to find out why it was bad and I indeed found out why.
@@Neenah44 For RCC, not a single one. If I would have just done nothing, I probably would be Stage 3 or 4 by now. My Urologist said that if the tumors would have been reversed, the Ultrasound on my liver would not have seen the tumors and I would not have made 60. I was 46 when we found RCC Stage 2.

Mine was due to alpha1antitrypsin deficiency! I think everyone with the high levels should be checked for this today! It’s not an expensive test and needs an early diagnosis when possible🙏
I suggest you look into anti dressants. I have MTHFR c677t. My liver detoxes 70% slower. I allowed myself to be put on an anti present well butrin an enzyme I a had under control rose.
thank you so much for this video and the important information included herein.. had lab tests done and both alt were aboeve normal, the 2nd result was even higher than the 1st and ast also was above normal but abdominal ultrasound shows normal liver impression..
Hight GGT only is : Auto brewery syndrome is also known as gut fermentation syndrome and endogenous ethanol fermentation. It's sometimes called “drunkenness disease.” This rare condition makes you intoxicated - drunk - without drinking alcohol. This happens when your body turns sugary and starchy foods (carbohydrates) into alcohol.
Yes absolutely.. Patients need not worry as Hepatitis can cause ALT level as high as 10000 (as in my case). So be relaxed and get admitted under medical supervision immediately and you will be fine within weeks or maybe months..
Amazing video, thank you! if GGT, is raised and ALP is normal, accompanied by elevated AST and ALT (AST higher than ALT, but both raised), what is the likely outcome for that?
ALP elevated by osteoblasts,so bone disease perhaps but technically does not need bone destruction, so can differentiate early versus late Pagets on test questions
Very clear video. What is the potential diagnosis please if there is an isolated abnormal ALT of 127? I am talking about a young nondrinker who does not so suffer from haemochromatosis. I mention haemochromatosis because his serum ferritin is also high, as is his creatinine. No viral hepatitis detected.
What if you have high GGT (125) and slightly raised AST and ALT but normal ALP? Ultrasound showed fatty liver 18 months prior but since then the AST and ALT levels have reduced (although still elevated)
My alt is 20 and my ast is 20. This is the second time they have been the same. Is the ratio important to look at? My ALP is within normal limits and my doctor didn't comment on it so I don't know if I should bring it up. I have been diagnosed with fatty liver in the past with NASH 1 but I lost about 50 lbs since then but gaining 15 back. my blood tests came back and everything was good except my ALP was very low - what does this mean? The lab did not explain anything. Can this be the reason for Rosacea and/or weight gain? My AST and ALT were normal
So with a small raise in GGT on blood test but all others are fine is most likely cause I drank a shit ton of alcohol 4 days before during a crazy weekend?
Doc my ast is 21.3 and my alt is 26.5 which the ratio is .80 that is less than 2, but my upper right abdomen is painful and the right side of my ribs, what is that doc? Could you enlightened me for that situation
