Is an alt 57 bad if you drank a lot the night before the test got a headache took advil but the doctor says its not to be concerning but advises you to limit alcohol consumption
My alt is 124 and my ast is 118. The blood test was taken a week ago. Before the blood tests, after simple abdominal ultrasound, I was diagnosed with NAFLD. I also am grade 1 obese, at the limit with overweight. I will go for further investigation this week. The doctors said the ast, alt should have been lower in this condition. I did take Paracetamol/Nurofen and got to the gym the weeks before the blood test. I stopped the heavy workout at this time.
Are these tests reliable? I read on- line that a person can have liver disease with normal liver tests. Also how reliable is the GGT test to diagnose liver disease or pancreas cancer?
My ast is 117 and my alt is 183 . My creatine and Bun is slightly elevated also. . I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease, three years ago but I’ve also lost 200 pounds since then and all of my labs have been within range till now. Any info would be great
Damn dude! Respect to you. Keep on going till you have the desired weight. If you have any symptoms you can look further into what you need to do. Other than that you are just looking at numbers (which doesn't tell you all that much). Keep on doing what you do: eat healthy would be the primary goal (you can lose weight, but still have a shitty diet) and MOVE (this will activate metabolism and get those fat cells activated). If you have any questions on what you can do: go for a diet you can maintain (crash diets are bullshit), same with sports: do something you like and keep it light so you don't get bored, don't get injured, can maintain frequency (rather light and often than heavy and once a year).

@@utilpiese6324Salut! In rest sunt mai bine, trebuie sa slabesc, ficatul e inca gras, regim samd. Trebuie sa imi fac mancare acasa, fara zahar, alcool, fumat, prajeli in ulei, mancaruri procesate, fara exces de grasimi si carbohidrati samd. In rest mai bine, sper sa ajung incet incet catre normal.
I repeated the labs 1 month after and got better results of AST/ALT 27/12. My doc said the elevated AST might be related to inflammation as I had back pain at the time or just an error. Hope yours would be ok. @@themeekshallrule
Where I live a normal ALT is 0-41. In May 2022 mine was at 48. This May 2023 it was 55. Do I need a liver ultrasound? Here the normal range for Albumin Creatine Ratio is 0-20. In May 2022 mine was 30. This May 2023 it was 95. In August 2023 it was 127. I see a lot of bubbles in my urine. Doctor prescribing Metformin for elevated blood sugar. Will Metformin help to bring my numbers down and lessen the bubbles?
Can you answer a question I never get a reply for, when we talk about ratios, are these only relevant when they are above normal? ie You could have normal levels ie AST 28, Alt 20, both are good levels but the ratio could indicate end stage liver disease? could you explain?
ALWAYS look at the clinical signs. Remember: don't stare yourself blind on lab results, look at the patient as a whole. If you have clinical signs (high pre-test prob of something being wrong) then the lab will back you up and increase the certainty of diagnosis. Without any clinical information the lab results are quite meaningless, you are treating numbers...not a patient. It is a common pitfall.
Thanks for the video, I have had 2 tests over 2 years, test 1 was 79 and test 2 was 77 , at different labs, all other liver tests were in the green, just ALT in the red, what do you recommend? Thanks
Hello! what does it mean if you have alt and ast low? In the analysis, sometimes both come out low, another 7 and this 7 is really strange that they are low
@@akkuverma2328 keep in mind: numbers are a guide, not absolute truth. If both parameters are normal, the ratio isn't relevant. These only get relevant when parameters start to be abnormal. The ratio of the abnormal values might give an idea about the nature of the pathology.
All of you Doctors only seem to understand what it means to have elevated ALT and AST, but have no idea what it means to have low levels too low. Doesn't the proper function of your body also depends on the proper amount of these enzymes. Obviously if ALT is too low then the protein conversions are not going to happen. Correct? WHY IS THIS NOT IMPORTANT?
That's because primarily these tests are designed to sniff out damage to liver cells (not gauge the function of the liver). Both are linked, but not in a certain formula. AST and ALT leak out of damaged cells...so you expect them to be higher than normal in certain pathologies. When that pathology is supposed, the lab test will be requested. To answer your question: levels of AST/ALT are not directly linked to liver function (too much variability within and between people). Only if clinical signs are present you can search more precisely and have other tests performed.
I wish he would’ve actually given us the normal range numbers so that we have something to gauge his commentary by. Otherwise this is a great video, as usual 👍
Something VERY notable to bring to your attention, that I learned from listening to Dr Robert Lustig, an authority on this topic, is that the "goal posts" has moved, to statistically account for a fatter, & and more metabolically UNhealthy society!! And one of his lectures. He said the "high figure" was anything above 25 in the 70's when he was in medical school..... So, now, in our present day, a 30 is normal, yet was high in the mid-70s. Do your own interpretation of that... The lower the better!
Thank you Jonathan
My pleasure

If Alt and Ast are in the normal range, which it looks like yours are to me, then the ratio doesn't matter.
