Ryobi 175 MPH 760 CFM 38cc Gas Backpack Leaf Blower **See update in description**

  • Overview, starting and operation included. A correction to the video: this is their most powerful blower by CFM. **Update: After my 2019 fall leaf blowing, I let this blower sit for a few weeks then when I went to run the gas out and blow some extra leaves and it wouldn't start. Chamber had spark and fuel but wouldn’t start. I eventually replaced the piston head and body, it did the trick. The old piston lost its seal and was also rubbing inside the chamber as well. Old piston had a single ring, new piston has two. Bought the new part from Parts Warehouse and repair took 1.5 hours. The only warning I realized I had before it stopped working was a ‘choppy’ run for the first minute or two the engine ran. It would not rev well until the engine was warm.

    Bought this model this past weekend. What a machine. I'd put it up against any Stihl or Echo backpack, not to mention the Ryobi $199.00 price tag WOW. Very easy to start. This thing will blow ROCKS out of your grass. That quiet run speed, is like 1/4 throttle and actually usable. It blows a lot of usable air even at idle. Manual says it takes 3 minutes to warm the engine. Also at first mine was a little buzzy with vibrations out of the box. About 10 minutes into using it, I felt the engine smooth out. The rings just seated in. Now it's a very smooth engine. It's so powerful you don't need to walk around at full throttle like the EGO, Echo, Stihl or other blowers.

      I’d have to disagree this thing is almost as loud at idle as my br600 is on throttle and at full throttle the Ryobi will rock your ears even with muffs not to mention it doesn’t blow half as much as the stihl I’ve never owned an echo blower but this one is definitely not comparable to stihl I’m any way besides weight

    I bought this blower 3 weeks ago based on the numbers of 760 cfm and 175 mph. This is Ryobi's most powerful blower (error in video) and it is awesome. The amount of air this puts out is very impressive for a $200 blower. It performs like a professional grade $500 plus blower. But, it is not fair to compare it to the the higher cost models, as those are made for everyday professional use. This Ryobi is made for the homeowner who wants to save a lot of time by using an efficient bad ass blower. For those who are not sure what these numbers mean: 750 cfm (cubic feet per minute) measures the amount of air moved. 175 mph (miles per hour) measures the speed of the air moved. The "power" or effectiveness of the blower is based on cfm or the amount of air moved, provided it is moving air fast enough to move the leaves and grass.....and 175 mph is plenty to get the job done. That is category 5 hurricane air speed. Ryobi's marketing is correct by saying that this is the most powerful residential blower. For $200 I could not find a better buy. I have a lot of trees with falling leaves. This thing saves me time. Very glad I bought it!

      Might not be fair to compare it to higher cost models but since you say it performs like a professional grade $500+ blower I will have to say that is completely false it may claim to perform like one but I can tell you this blower side by side next to a stihl br600 there is absolutely no comparison the stihl blows a path of leaves at least twice as wide and twice as far as the Ryobi and does it without the need of hearing protection where as the Ryobi will scramble your brain even with ear plugs

    Just took motor apart , because it stopped running. I've worked small engines for a long time. The piston on this machine was scored. It is the the thinest made piston I've ever seen. Don't waist your money on Ryobi, they continue to make very low quality products. If you want something thats going last, pay the extra money for a Husqvarna or Sthil.

    My mom had bought the ryobi weedeater to replace her GTI15T but it wouldnt start after purchase. Her GTI-15T was 10 years old when it broke. I heard there are a few people that have a 35+ year Ryan (Ryobi) weedeater and it still ran good today. My uncle's father had a Ryan weedeater that is 35 years old and had no trouble with it compared to today's modern equipment. I think it was a Piston Products company back until I believe, the 90s.

    it's the only blow I recommend. I use my daily and I have to tell you it has twice the power of even any handheld unit. And it gets from plastic fuel economy and on top of that it does one hell of a great job. It's still not the most powerful in the world but I have to tell you this is the absolute Baseline of what you should buy and everything else is basically a kid's toy after you have one of these.
    the carburetor is one of the sticky issues here where you do have to adjust it very often and make sure it works well with the different fuels that you have. It actually gets better with time but again it's just one of those things you have to look into. There are also some maintenance items in here like some bearings and things like that but they seem to be a pretty good quality and I haven't had an issue with them and last time I was in there I boil the ones that I could.
    as long as you can get maximum RPMs out of this unit it's fine. But for some reason as a lot of other people have figured out the carburetor seems to go out of adjustment or just not give enough fuel for the higher RPM running and it seems to bog down a little bit before it gets too full speed but most of the time it works great.

  • @rwentz9150
    @rwentz9150 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You are incorrect about the power, even though there is a little less air speed coming out. The amount of air that actually goes through makes it a more powerful machine by far the blowing power CFM and Air speed is way better on this one.

    Forgot to add, storage. I was worried on where to put a backpack in my garage. On the pack is a triangle, where you place your foot to start the engine. That's where you can hang it on the wall. It hangs and balances perfectly out of the way. Lastly I was amazed on how small it really is. Not nearly as tall as other gas blowers like Stihl and Echo.

    Have you used it yet to blow the leaves that fell from your trees? If so, then what is your opinion of it now with it's performance in heavy leaves? I just bought one of these yesterday, but have not put it together yet. It was a hard choice for me between this Ryobi and the Echo PB-770T backpack blower. The Ryobo's price is nice, but the Echo has about 60 mph more air speed. Both are about the same in CFM. But the Echo is about $260 more. I am hoping this Ryobi allows me to clear my 1/2 acre lot with oak leaves about 6 inches deep fast and easy. I was using a Craftsman handheld gas blower that has a 200mph air speed and about 430 CFM. The Craftsman cleaned the ground good, but really wears on my body swinging it back and forth, and it would not move the pile once it got too big. One more thing, how is this Ryobi on fuel run time with a full tank? I saw another review that said it is a fuel hog, with about a 15 minute run time on a tank of fuel. That would not be good. The tank only holds 30 ounces, but the Echo runs close to an hour on a 50+ ounce tank of fuel. Anyway, I am going to get my new Ryobi assembled and give it a try for the 30 day trial, and if I am not satisfied then I will return it and get the Echo PB-770T, or maybe even one of the Stihl backpack blowers.

    • @steveva7591
      @steveva7591  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3069mark, I just finished a few weeks ago with blowing fall leaves and it did very well. Previous falls I used a black and decker corded hand leaf blower and the Ryobi cut down times substantially compared to that. The Ryobi did especially well moving the leaves when the piles got really big, closer to the curb. Blowing time was about a third less than with the black and decker.
      As for gas, one full tank lasts me about an hour with most of that time at full throttle. I find it does chew through gas compared to some other 2-cycles I have and even my 4-cycle mower.
      Another trick I learned for comfort is to loosen (a little) the throttle handle where it connects to the tube. This allows the handle to shift a little as you swing the tube back and forth which in return reduces wrist fatigue.

    • @3069mark
      @3069mark 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, Steve, about loosening the throttle handle to allow it to slide when you swing the tube. What was the air speed and CFM of your Black & Decker corded electric blower? Usually electrics are not near as powerful as gas blowers, and so it does not surprise me that your new Ryobi gas blower outperformed your electric. I've been using a Craftsman gas blower with an air speed of about 200 mph and about 430 CFM, and so I will be comparing the Ryobi to that. I am hoping for the Ryobi to be about twice as fast.
      I have about a half acre city lot, with 8 oak trees and 1 Bradford Pear tree on it, our whole subdivision is heavily treed likewise, and so between my trees and leaves blowing in from the neighbors trees I have a massive amount of leaves to clean up every fall, and most of my yard is covered about 4-6" deep, and even deeper in places. I finished my front yard about a week or two ago with my Craftsman, and blew them into rows about 2-3 feet high and about 8 feet wide and about 50-60 feet long, and then blew them onto a tarp that I pulled around to the corner of my back yard with my lawn tractor to a bare spot where I burn them. I might have to do the same for the back yard unless the Ryobi can blow them from the far sides of my back yard to the burn pile, but I am afraid that it won't be able to as that would be a massive sized pile to blow that far -- about 140 feet.
      Regarding fuel consumption, your almost an hour on a full tank sounds really good. I figured that those other guys saying it was a fuel hog had to be wrong, because the Echo's and Stihl's get about an hour, but they have a lot bigger engines and fuel tanks than the Ryobi, and so they would use more fuel due to the bigger engines. The 30 ounce tank on the Ryobi will be an improvement over my Craftsman with it's tank size of about one pint. My Craftsman has a 25cc engine, and I get about a half hour or so out of it. I believe that fuel consumption is totally related to engine size, and of course at what speed the engine is running.
      Anyway, thanks for the information, Steve. Have fun with your Ryobi! 😊

    • @steveva7591
      @steveva7591  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3069mark The black and decker is 400 CFM and 250 MPH. I still have it because I can vacuum leaves with it which is great for stairwells and window wells...and mulch too. Good luck with your leaf clearing!

    1 year update. Maybe I just bought a dud. I used mine 6 times and it died. It had 20 psi compression so I tore the engine apart and the piston ring was frozen. Had to break the ring to get it off the piston. Ordered a top end engine rebuild kit from Ryobi for $36 shipped with tax. since they don't sell just the ring by itself. I'll rebuild the engine this weekend. It is a powerful blower but you better be a mechanic to own Ryobi.
