I drove one of these as a loaner from the dealer while my M5 was getting some work done, and I was pleasantly surprised. The exhaust tone was awesome and I loved the "gurgles" I'm not sure why they were so critical of it. Very sporty and spirited car, it was fun to drive if you are ok with the very limited uses of a 2 seat roadster.
They gave you a top model $76k roadster as a loaner? I don't get any better than a 4 series maybe a 540. I have the z4 m40i I chose it over the m3/4 because believe it or not it handles and stays planted way way better than my m2 comp used to and just turns in so aggressively and stays planted in ways the m2 comp, f80/2 could dream of. And an m5 absolutely CANT perform the same because it's massive size just limits what it can do no matter how amazing the suspension..not saying I wouldn't get an m5, but if I want to be on the track and go on twisty roads which I usually do the z4 m40i wins by far.
played back the first 7 seconds in 0.25x and they got the perfect subliminal messaging making you think it’s a supra before u even realize it. After the z4 badge they put the supra badge for .01 seconds to get it in your mind hahaha

Not sure why the little guy hated the car so much. The exhaust sounds fine; the steering is fine (except in comfort). It's almost as fast as a M2 0-60, and it's quite comfortable on long drives. THAT'S why you buy it. It also feels bigger than a AMG on the inside, and the quality - especially the technical POV - is PERFECT. Looks better than the Supra-beetle also.
Axtually it IS faster than the m2 comp. 0-60 3.7 seconds car and driver. I've tuned mine to 450wheel horsepower and 500 wheel torque and I get 3.4 sec on average. 0-60 doesn't matter to me nor does quarter mile. This car BEATS all the bmw m cars in handling, staying planted, and turning in extremely aggressively. I have driven the previous gen m3/4 and the m2 comp and the new m3/4 and I can tell you the z4 is so underrated. It takes corners so aggressively and stays plantrd at speeds waaay easier than any other m car. It's extremely underrated

However, I decided to buy one anyways, and I have to say it's an amazing car, a lot of the points that they discussed in this videos just don't apply at all. It handles beautifully. It sounds great, and it's a great performance car as well.
I really think it's a good and fresh design. Drove one last week, the Z4 30i and I really enjoeyed it. It feels like a BMW in my opinion and the new interior is refreshing and more modern looking. I think my choice would be the Z4 M40i because I think its the perfect engine for such a sporty roadster.
The front reminds me of some kind of insect, but somehow still love it! Might need to get this for my next car..but most likely a 2 series instead. Thanks for the review guys! It's great as usual, my favourite car reviews on TH-cam! Must be the chemistry between you two, brolove :)
I recently bought a Misano Blue Z4. I'm just entering the "old guy" stage of my life but still like to have fun. This is my weekend car. That said, the car is perfect for me, convertible, sporty appearance, quick, with some luxury! It was perfect for a recent two hour, weekend getaway, yet fun to drive around the home town as well. Biggest gripe, the drink holders are not very useful, particularly with two people in the car. I'll get over it.
Just bought one myself, actually in my 30's. It is THE BEST roadster that you can buy brand new under $100k. You have to go up to the 718 Spyder to get to the next line up, and that's going to cost you an extra 30 grand apples to apples fully specced out (not to mention that with the new 4.0, if you aren't taking it to the track, trying to rev that thing to 8000RPM is going to land you in jail. So many comparisons to the Supra, I have driven both, and they appeal to very different people. If you've ever owned a "nice" car, the novelty of the appearance of the Supra immediately wears off once you get inside it. BMW = Superior interior. I don't consider this an old mans car, I think because of the price tag, it's considered that because it's a "weekend fun car" and not many people (outside of California) probably purchase 2 seater convertibles as their DD's. In fact, this car is far more practical than a Supra because it's an actual purpose driven vehicle - top down weekend cruiser.
The car looks really nice and the engine sound is TOP NOTCH. B58 one of the best sounding engines you can buy at the moment. Exhaust note is luckily changeable with a small software tune. Don't like those crackles and pops either. I could see myself buying this, definitely this more than a Boxster, which is ridiculously priced here.
We have spec'd out all three and the Vette and Boxster end up at least $20k-$25k more in the US with similar configurations. And used, the clear winner is the Z4, the M40i can be had for low 50s with low mileage. Try to find a Vette or Boxster GTS for that!
Inline 6 usually all sound the same. That’s why the 2jz and the RB26 sound so similar. The S54 even though it’s loud and raspy has a similar note as well
I’m not a BMW fan, but I have to admit that the body lines, especially when viewed from the side are spot on. It looks really good! Not so oddly chunky and unproportional as the new Supra. BMW should make this as a regular coupe as well. Not everyone wants a convertible....
Those crackles kill the car. I had a 2018 340i and traded it in within a year because the steering was similar to this car (loose) and the 6sp had issues the dealer couldn't figure out. Yuri, the mustache ...man...I dunno, it isn't working :), if the wife loves it then ignore me, but I've been watching you guys for awhile (and yes, I've subscribed) and it just somehow deters my watching of the vids. I'm still gonna watch (so yea, probably ignore me), but I had to give my opinion as its that bad :). Toyota lowered the boost cause they didn't find it reliable enough at full power as in the Z4. I wonder how bulletproof a toyota engine at 380 hp is compared to this "good enough" one.
Watch TFLs interview with the supra engineer and you will hear all the bullshit surrounding the development of the supra. BMW realised that Toyota would make it outperform any beemer so they basically pulled the plug on the original design so Toyota had to dial it back and cheaped out big time. It is designed to handle a much more powerful engine (M3?) wich probably is coming in the future. Toyota has more excuses than the french surrendering in ww2...
Fully agree on crackling exhaust and it's indicative of a greater problem... this whole concept of a Driving Experience rather than just a car that does what it does and that's the experience that you get

It sounds like the Skyline because it has an inline 6. Same thing with the 2jz, it sounds similar to the RB26. All inline 6 sound similar and BMW pioneered the inline 6 which is why it sounds so similar
I would be annoyed by the popcorn popping exhaust on this car. Kinda like the Veloster N in sports mode. The exhaust is a popcorn popper. The f-type Jag is completely different. It's loud and pissed off. It rumbles and snarls. It means business. The Z4 in sport mode? The pops remind me of a bowl of Rice Krispies in milk.

I really like the styling of this BMW Z4. It looks really good with the red paint and the tan interior. I am a bit disappointed that there's no manual transmission and that there's no hardtop convertible. Personally I would hands down prefer a Porsche Boxster or Cayman over this because of the very fun and engaging manual transmission. I would also take a Chevy Corvette Convertible over the Z4 with a manual transmission.
I live in America and I assume you do. But usually Americans are ignorant about the rest of the world and don't know much of anything and have different (usually always a dumbed down version) likes. For example Americans get upset at the z4s dash design and the "rpms Going in reverse" and Not having a manual because Americans usually don't like Change much, are more "old school", and prioritize dumbed down versions of performance driving like adding as many mods and tunes that nearly break the car as possible for only one thing, straight line speed and going to the drag (definitely for most young people in America), and the older folk are obsessed with manuals because they're not the types to understand the meaning of gojng on a track and getting the ABSOLUTE BEST POSSIBLE LAP TIME FOR THE CAR POSSIBLE taking the corners at the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE SPEED for the corners they take. Americans think drag strips mean they're "racers" (for the young ones), and the old ones like manuals because they usually never take corners as fast as possible in the first place simply because they can't and aren't interested in it anyway because they couldn't which is why they prefer manuals to feel "in control" and "dominant" over the car because dominance for Americans isn't getting the best lap time. Americans are also extremely all about everything being how it was and biased towards the old way and American way so the rpm going in "reverse" confuses them.. But having been born in Austria and understanding German culture, I understand the reason for gojng with paddles in a fast transmission only. I understand why the rpm gauge is in "reverse". It's because the rpm being the opposite dimension of the speedo "completes" the anesthetics and differentiates itself from the speedo at the same time and makes the digital dash look complete and closed with speedo going up right and rpm up left. This is because on the track they instantly differentiate between the two when pushing it to the max and know that the bar going up and left is rpm, and the up right of the speedo concentrates their focus on the middle and in between speedo and rpm scales. If it was just a round speedo both going left to right in Germany on a track there would always be a chance for having to look a bit longer to understand what's going on. Bmw understands both speedo and rpm gojng up and rifht in a circle is more Confjsing because overall they both point to the right outside the dash. But the opposing speedo and rpm focus in the middle and into the dash. Yall wouldn't understand this because Americans can't even try to understand other cultures and even if they tried they couldn't.

I would be annoyed by the popcorn popping exhaust on this car. Kinda like the Veloster N in sports mode. The exhaust is a popcorn popper.
The f-type Jag is completely different. It's loud and pissed off. It rumbles and snarls. It means business. The Z4 in sport mode? The pops remind me of a bowl of Rice Krispies in milk.
I honestly hate all of those forced exhaust crackle and pops. They’re all predictable and sound fake as hell. I was just curious why they pick and choose which sound “good” and which dont

I really like the styling of this BMW Z4. It looks really good with the red paint and the tan interior. I am a bit disappointed that there's no manual transmission and that there's no hardtop convertible. Personally I would hands down prefer a Porsche Boxster or Cayman over this because of the very fun and engaging manual transmission. I would also take a Chevy Corvette Convertible over the Z4 with a manual transmission.
I live in America and I assume you do. But usually Americans are ignorant about the rest of the world and don't know much of anything and have different (usually always a dumbed down version) likes. For example Americans get upset at the z4s dash design and the "rpms Going in reverse" and Not having a manual because Americans usually don't like Change much, are more "old school", and prioritize dumbed down versions of performance driving like adding as many mods and tunes that nearly break the car as possible for only one thing, straight line speed and going to the drag (definitely for most young people in America), and the older folk are obsessed with manuals because they're not the types to understand the meaning of gojng on a track and getting the ABSOLUTE BEST POSSIBLE LAP TIME FOR THE CAR POSSIBLE taking the corners at the MAXIMUM POSSIBLE SPEED for the corners they take. Americans think drag strips mean they're "racers" (for the young ones), and the old ones like manuals because they usually never take corners as fast as possible in the first place simply because they can't and aren't interested in it anyway because they couldn't which is why they prefer manuals to feel "in control" and "dominant" over the car because dominance for Americans isn't getting the best lap time. Americans are also extremely all about everything being how it was and biased towards the old way and American way so the rpm going in "reverse" confuses them.. But having been born in Austria and understanding German culture, I understand the reason for gojng with paddles in a fast transmission only. I understand why the rpm gauge is in "reverse". It's because the rpm being the opposite dimension of the speedo "completes" the anesthetics and differentiates itself from the speedo at the same time and makes the digital dash look complete and closed with speedo going up right and rpm up left. This is because on the track they instantly differentiate between the two when pushing it to the max and know that the bar going up and left is rpm, and the up right of the speedo concentrates their focus on the middle and in between speedo and rpm scales. If it was just a round speedo both going left to right in Germany on a track there would always be a chance for having to look a bit longer to understand what's going on. Bmw understands both speedo and rpm gojng up and rifht in a circle is more Confjsing because overall they both point to the right outside the dash. But the opposing speedo and rpm focus in the middle and into the dash. Yall wouldn't understand this because Americans can't even try to understand other cultures and even if they tried they couldn't.
