In this episode, Doug discovers something called "parking lights".
which have been in every Skoda car in like forever (the left or right parking lights separately)
my first car put on the parking lights if you left on the corresponding indicator and switched the engine off. And since the indicator stalk had to be manually disengaged from left because some catch was broken, I always had to check if I didn't leave it on by accident. Because the battery & electrical system were weak as well. Which was understandable because the car was built in 1985.
@@zJoriz Yep, exactly. It often is this kinda hidden feature. Although there is an icon on the turn signal stick, but who looks at the icons anyway :-)

@@zJoriz I suppose it depends on your country - if parking lights are not required, then car manufacturers probably won't put them to cars made for that country. In my country, every car needs at least the "standard" parking lights which light up a small bulb in all 4 corners. You typically control this with the same switch as the normal lights (parking lights are the first position if the switch is rotary). The ability to light up just the left or right side of the vehicle is IMHO optional and depends on whether the car manufacturer wants to give you this choice that saves energy. I don't think the law dictates this function.

Yeah they might be the same cars technically, but the set-up is completely different. Suspension, transmission, engine mapping, aero and weight distribution. It's all a little different and it adds up. Professional drivers say it too, they behave significantly different.

More and more... my decision to make this my next car is more apparent. Love this... granted it'll be in a couple of years, but i sure do hope that they keep this look. Love it.
Doug I found a great quirk in a 2015 Chevy Equinox! In the navigation system, you can enter and save addresses in the “address book.” Pretty standard. But, you can choose from EIGHTY-ONE different little icons to show up on the map! That’s right, 81 icons, some of which are magnificently quirky!

But I met a girl who could speak german and I asked her to translate some parts of my bmw owners manual in our first date :D She really liked it tho she said the whole manual is written in formal language like the reader is a royal king or something.

Hey Doug, I think you should do a video based on quirky federal and maybe state regulations for vehicles on your other channel! I love to hear about these regulations and how the automobile companies try and get around it to implement style. Your channel is what I follow for the quirkiness. I can go to any channel and find out how much horsepower a car has. But only you would say why the DTRL LED turns off when the signal light is engaged and the mandate to back it. So it’s just a suggestion but I like learning about how things are and the way that it is. You seem to convey that seamlessly!

The auto lock and unlock is in my 2017 Honda Civic touring, and I love it! Every modern car should have this feature, makes life that much easier!

The hole in the seat actually has a function. Serve as a hot air heater for the neck area heating if you want to ride a lowered roof even though it is colder outside.Mercedes is already using it on the last two SLK models

Doug the type of guy who gets excited about hands-free open/close/ignition feature that's been available in Europe since 2001 (in Renault for instance) or a side marker feature of lights that we had in a 1970 Skoda.
I had a 04 Z4, absolutely loved it!
My 05 C6 Vette has those locking/unlocking features. Doug the kind of guy that's trapped in 1999.
My 2013 and then my 2014 Model S had/has those locking features too. Nice try Germany, maybe someday you'll get original.

Hey Doug, my 2017 Honda Pilot EXL has the same lock feature as you walk away, so not that surprising. The automatic unlock as you approach is cool though. The latter is new to me. Great video!
Another great review sir! I think it's phenomenal that BMW is keeping the roadster tradition alive. Just wish it came with a MT option - seems obvious standard equipment, but then... And just my ¢2, I think the BMW Z3 ///M Roadster (with the S54 engine) is still the pinnacle of design for the Z3/Z4 Series. Maybe an idea for a future video? 😎

Doug is type of a guy to look for manufacturers logos while reviewing cars. And yes, in Europe all cars in last 30+ years had the option to turn on just a left or right parking lights.

The pass through is nice so you can give your captives food and water while they are inside your trunk without the risk of them jumping out or hitting you with the tire iron.
As you can see, this car has bucket seats that don't make you feel that "free" as in regular seat. The idea is give you this small touch of wind when going without top even when you seat in this bucket.
Regarding one side parking lights, a lot of cars have that. It was quite common in Europe and still can be found but most of them implement it with turn signal switches. Leave turn signal engaged when leaving your car and this light will come up instead. I guess this car have returning turn signal switches so you can't really see if it is engaged or not.

Nice to see a comparison to the S2000 (I have an 07 S2000), The Z4 is nice, but at over $50k, well, would probably spend the extra and get a Boxster.

Back in 2016, I bought my daughter the 2016 z4 for her 16th birthday and that was the best z4 BMW has made to date. It was the hardtop convertible and man do I wish BMW still made the hardtop model. I was sad when we traded it in a few years back for a Mercedes GLC. She was starting college and wanted a larger car, though I should have kept it for myself because I've regretted trading it ever since. There aren't any decent hardtop convertibles on the market, and that car was beautiful. It would have been a fun little weekend car, but it is what it is.

FINALLY! The headlights actually look much different from every BMW as well as the rear lights.
My 2013 F30 has the same “swipe to see the presets” functionality - this tech has been around for a bit. The parking lights are interesting for left and right, are you meant to leave those on all the time or even overnight? Won’t that drain the battery?
