This thing of "different versions of the game" also happened to WALL-E:
PS2, PSP, and PC; Xbox 360, PS3, Wii.
And also to Toy Story 3:
PS2, and PSP; Xbox 360 and PS3, Wii and PC (the last 2 are based on the Xbox 360/PS3, but with lower graphics + missing Toy Box options and quests).

I had the PS2 version as a kid, got the Greatest Hits version when my uncle brought me to Best Buy one day. It was between this and the Wall-E game, and from what little I know about the Wall-E game I think I made the right choice. I later got a copy of the 360 version for achievements...and not much else. But imagine my confusion when my first exposure to the game is early gameplay footage of the 7th gen version on TV, and then actually experiencing the 6th gen version.

Yo, you have been a brilliant find and i shall start by saying thank u so much for this coverage. You are clearly dedicated and insightful in your commentary, highlighting and comparing a few destinct aspects of both console games. I say this having speedrun the asobo version for 5 years now lol. For the time frame, it is a decently good overlook! It appears that the 360 has some curious level design ideas that I'd have liked to see more, but the snippets u had were fair enough. Thanks also for tipping me off to toy story 2, as i really adore the presentation in rat. I look forward to more sharing and uncovering of licensed games, with their impeccable flavor and impressive feats! (Side note, there is also a psp version that takes inspiration in moveset from asobo, while expanding it for combat. The plot acts as a sequel to ratatouille oddly enough. the game also offers a world map kinda progression, with more levels, albeit linear. Certainly worth an examination)
Anyway, dearest thanks for your dedication regardless of audience, please know that you are on a good track and i wish you well in life 🙏 🐀

It's completely in character for Asobo to make the death cutscenes as traumatizing as posible. I mean, A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requim has it's protagonists constantly put in traumatizing situations, so when you really think about we were kind of just kinipigs.

I had Ratatouille for the PSP but always want it to play it on PS2/GameCube/PC. That's how i found your channel. Finally, last week I managed to experience it on PC and it felt nice. The story was the weakest part of it for me. It requires you to now what happens in the movie like the bonding Remy and Linguini develop or the fact that Linguini becomes the owner of Gusto's and Igor exists because it never shows you. Also, PC version has a bug in the last stage with the shrimps and you have to pose the game to get them out but no big deal. But the controls? They feel great! Still prefer the PSP versions over the two but PS2/GameCube/PC is a nice game too

As someone who grew up playing the GameCube version, I recently played the PS3 version and my thoughts mirror yours.
One big flaw I found that you missed is that unlike the GameCube version, some of the collectables are permanently missable if you forget them in certain mission-exclusive areas of levels and especially the introduction level (Somewhere in France), which you can't replay in the PS3 version, unlike the GameCube version, meaning you can be locked out of getting 100% on your save file.

Some things to consider when deciding which version of the 6th gen version to get:
    - The Wii, Xbox, and PC versions have the best textures and lighting, while Gamecube has the worst, with PS2 being somewhere in the middle.
    - The Gamecube version only runs at 30 fps while every other version runs at 60, which will never make sense to me. Actually, the PC version is locked at 500 fps, so I'm guessing you'll need a frame limiter or something.
    - The Wii version has 5 exclusive minigames using motion controls.

There is a good reason most Disney games from the 7th gen area base their PC ports of the 6th gen versions. Kids generally don't have good computers so porting the 6th gen versions with bottom-tier system requirements ensures more PC users can run the games well. This is probably why in the early 6th gen, most Pixar games had completely different PC ports. Why port the console game to PC and get complaints from parents when the game runs like crap(if at all) on their child's hand me down 90's PC. That is what happened to me when I got the Incredibles PC game, my PC wasn't even old, but it stood no chance against the Incredibles PC game.
When the 7th gen started, many kids stuck with 6th gen consoles, so Disney games often had separate 7th and 6th gen versions. And at this point in time, most PC's were powerful enough to handle 6th gen ports. Thinking about it, this was a fascinating time in game development because there were so many relavant platforms at once, you have the powerful but hard to program PS3 and 360, the Wii being a disguised gamecube pro with fancy controllers, the PS2 that just refused to die, the PSP being like a nerfed PS2 and the DS with it's touchscreen and PS1 level graphics. It's weird seeing how different studio's approached the massive power gap between these platforms.
Ratatouille here gave the PS3 and 360 an own version, while everything else(sans DS) got a different, yet better game.
Wall-E treated the Wii like a 7th gen console and tried giving it the same version as the HD consoles, which backfired when the Wii version had entire map sections removed as the Wii likely couldn't handle the more demanding aspects of the HD version. The PS2/PC version was ported to the PSP with no gameplay changes, but they nuked the texture resolution from orbit, to the point where the PSP version looks like an abstract painting. The DS got a completely different take with more cartoon like graphics and puzzle based gameplay
Toy story 3 turned the tables and forced the PSP version to run on the PS2. It's super obvious when playing the PSP/PS2 version that it was meant to be played on a small screen, how they decided to port the PSP version to a home console baffles me. The PS3, PC, Wii and 360 versions share the same foundation and play the same for the story, but the Wii and PC lacks a bunch of "Toy-box" content. Which is the game mode that was the most heavily advertised. It's like a version of call of duty that has the campaign but cut multiplayer. The DS is doing it's own thing again
G-force separated the game into handheld and home versions, where the PSP and DS got a version with the same level design as the home version, but simplified the controls and scrapped ranged weaponry. they probably scrapped shooting because it was hard to aim without access to a right stick, which also meant the game had to be rebalanced on handhelds to compensate. The home version didn't even bother using the extra power of the PS3 and 360 and clearly used the PS2 as a baseline. The 7th gen versions just look like slight remasters of the PS2 version.
It's really cool seeing how different Disney games dealt with the variety of gaming platforms at the time.

This game was my obsession as a kid playing on PS2 way back when. So nostalgic, and the soundtrack is marvelous; Michael Giacchino is truly a marvel, and his game score is right up there with his work on the actual movie. It should have gotten an official release, but thank God people do gamerips. I got the 360 version recently to see how different it was, and I can easily tell it had an entirely different creative team than the PS2 edition. 360 version is obviously superior, but I just wish it had the dream world platform levels like the PS2.

I kinda felt the way about the Spider man 3 video game. Like back then, people saying the PS3/360 are the superior versions. But in recent years, people seemed to have more praise for the PS2/Wii versions, while the PS3/360 despite having better graphics is kinda considered paled in comparison by most now… Gameplay- wise and story wise. But yeah, more polygons doesn’t mean it’s always going to be a good game. The main point is the gameplay being enjoyable and competently made one.

As for why the PC version was based on the last gen Asobo version rather than HD Heavy Iron version, it would have been to target lower end hardware. The game would have of course mainly been bought by families and children and especially in 2007, that kind of market would have more likely had weaker PCs which weren’t exactly geared towards gaming. So as a move to make the game as accessible as possible to its target demographic and to maximise profits, it made more sense to port over the less demanding version of the game.

original Xbox version of Ratatouille was only at GameStop. It’s a shame PS3/ Xbox 360 is downgrade of the game.

I know you've only played the GameCube port of the Asobo version of Ratatouille but which console port of the Asobo version of Ratatouille would you say is best one to play in terms of better graphics and controls the Wii, original Xbox, PS2, PC, or GameCube?

    • @CrystalOmega
      @CrystalOmega  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Unfortunately, i haven't played the other asobo versions aside from gamecube, soo i can't say. But they all should play the same, soo just pick whichever system of the five you like best.

@@CrystalOmega that’s not quite correct. The Wii version has FIVE exclusive mini games that are dependent on the Wii remote. They are in the four levels that feed out of Home Stink Home. There is also one in Home Stink Home itself, near where you are when you first get there. I wish there was good quality footage of the games, but only one user has footage of them at all.

Something to consider is that the Gamecube version runs at 30 fps compared to every other version's 60.

God Damn The 7th Gen version looks so smooth, And even though your bad reception against it I might want it over the 6th gen version. (And I could buy both because I have both a PS2 and Xbox 360)

In the future yes absolutely, however for this marathon not 100% sure. But you never know, i may sneak in a few bonus reviews of other pixar games.

6th gen version>>> had version hands down. I grew up with the ps2 version and had a lot of memories playing it. Those fucken guard dogs got to me when I was like 6 😂😂
Fun Fact: the Nintendo wii version is practically identical to the others however it also includes more gyro control mini games added around the maps
