Finally someone that has a decent idea of setting up a demo, few that post on youtube do it as well as you have Steven ,cheers mate. Look forward to more.
Great to sit with you again.I watched your magic when I started painting Steve. It still is pure magic, but a year later I get so much more out of it.Thanks mate.
I love that you described the way you felt about the photo before you painted it. I feel that painting from a photo we take ourselves helps us paint some of ourselves into our art, if that makes any sense? I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for taking the time to share this, and also for slowing down a bit and really explaining what you are doing. The Hake brush is a bit difficult for us beginners. You, Dave Usher, and Alan Owen are all really terrific for explaining the best way to get good results from this versatile brush. I am surely determined not to give up, and tutorials Like these do help. Thank you.
Yes I often use photos on the internet for painting inspiration and reference but it's by far better to use your own. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad the videos have helped with your watercolours. Thanks for watching and happy painting!
So funny , I just put the last thing into my french easel and then realised when I watched this video that I forgot to put my Hake in there lol, now it is. Thanks
Yes I've walked along this stretch in my childhood many a time. There are some nice painting subjects along the way. Thanks for watching James and best wishes.
Your painting is so beautiful that I come again to watch you with the movements of your hand to understand better how you drew the leaves. This is a new way to draw the leaves as well as the short dark branches that you add to this lovely tree. It's really awesome. And your choice of colors for the leaves is something out of this world. At the same time it's a wonderful demo. Steven I was telling you below that it would have been better to draw the little dog on a white spot. But now I am thinking that maybe with a bit of white gouache the little dog would be perfect on this dark spot. Don't you think so ? Thank you for sharing this new video which I enjoyed watching very much. I am learning with you more and more which help me improve my artworks.
White gouache may have worked better but to be honest I rarely use it. i often find the white of the paper looks better but the challenge is preserving the white. Masking fluid would work but I never use that either!
Gracias!!
I like the way you move your brush to draw the clouds which are pale blue and yellow. I also like the way you draw the small trees in the distance, their shapes and various colors. It's simply beautiful. There is a big dark tree on the right hand side, a small yellow land and their reflections. The way you draw the big tree on left side is also different and very lovely. It looks like a real tree. The dark areas of trees on both sides add lot of beauty to this lovely scene. This foreground of yellow bushes and grasses is awesome. Oh ! I almost forgot the beautiful sky which reflects its lovely colors on sea. But there is the little dark dog which you draw near a black spot and it would have been better to draw it near a white spot. Don't you think so Steven ? I thank you for our little figure and his dog as well as this very interesting demo in drawing the trees. Thank you Steven for sharing this wonderful video.
I do show the photograph if it's one of my own but if I'm painting from something I've seen off the internet then for copyright reasons I cannot show it unfortunately. Thanks for watching and best wishes
Thanks Steve for lovely simple way to use watercolor What brand watercolor paints do you use ? Also the watercolor paper do you use? I have used your technique and found very effective These video lessons make it worthwhile and enjoyable experience Thanks
Another nice watercolour.love your videos..quick question..where did you get your mixing palette from as I use a black plastic one and it makes it hard to see the mixed colours..
I bought my palette from HobbyCraft but you will see them online if you search for 'inking tray'. Many thanks for your kind comments. Best wishes and happy painting!
Steven I was mistaken when I wrote that the little dog should be white while the space behind is white. I didn't tell you that the tree on the left hand side is simply marvelous with its various colors. By the way your painting is much more better than the photograph. Thank you as always Steven for sharing your marvelous videos.
Sometimes I get so frustrated with you ,it looks great to me and then you fiddle around and darken spots which to my eye look overdone...but I love your paintings and style you make it look so easy...in the finished painting it all comes together and looks fabulous
Thanks Maureen for your comments. Yes, I'm hoping it all comes together at the end. I've focussed a lot recently on trying to get the tones right but hope I don't overdo the darks. It's all a learning curve. Best wishes
Love this one, it’s beautiful, you’re very talented and make it look so easy. Thank you so much 👍
Thanks so much 😊
