I boxed some a million years ago when I was in the USMC. I wish I had had your videos then as I now realize how little the coach taught (other than getting me in amazing shape - I could have went ten rounds but because I had been taught little to no defense I got my clock cleaned in the smoker match I was in lol). Thanks for putting these out there- I wish you all the success.

Just wanted to say thanks Tony. I used to be a handy lad at school, naturally but as I've gotten older I just never fought. I've been following your guides for a few months now, mostly to get fit and make use of my bag. At the weekend I got into a fight I couldn't walk away from (not started by me) so I had to fight for the first time in about 15 year - I instinctively defended myself using the things I've learnt over the months from your vids and knocked the clown out. This was after I'd knocked him down and tried to say it's over, but he got up and came at me with a bottle. I'm pretty sure if I'd not been watching these vids I'd have ended up glassed as although I knew how to hit, I didn't have much defense minded skills. So again, thanks. I'll buy you a beer if I ever see you in the N.E mate 👍🏻

When I was learning my defense the slip was the last type of defence I learned. I was taught blocking and stepping out the way, then parries etc..... But the slip was the hardest form of defence to learn for me. It took me a while before I could actually feel comfortable to slip a punch. But once I got it I loved to slip cuz I have both hands free for the counter and fallow up.
But my question is I found it interesting that you taught to slip right away in this video , do you actually teach that right away to a beginner? Or was it because of the way you are doing this video? I don't mean any criticism at all, in fact I respect you and I learn so much from you, and I can't appreciate you enough for taking the time to put these videos together for us to learn for free!
But I just found that interesting about teaching the slip. I do train in a gym but I also train at home and I have partners at home some been working with me and some are just learning. I enjoy boxing and training that I don't leave it only in the gym I train and learn at home too and learn from videos like the ones you put out.thank you Tony for all you do , God bless you and your family
I also don't mean any criticism or disrespect by my question. I just had a question if I ask I will possibly learn something.thanks bro

Everybody teaches differently. I guess you were just taught differently. I learned the slip early on, but sucked at is. I believe I'm better now. So, it all depends on the teacher.

hi tony. what i really need to know. is should u stand with your strong hand and foot back.
As im used to standing with my power hand forward. i feel like i have a dominant strong jab like this.
Is your head movement and defense better with your stronger foot back.
what are the pros and cons of this style.
i feel more comfortable this way, but i heard its wrong.

Unfortunately, it seems like it was a reliable source that told you that it was wrong. If you're right handed, you would lead with your left hand and left leg, so that you can develop a great cross. A powerful cross can be a money shot. A hook too can be a very powerful punch if you get comfortable with them. Even though I'm finally comfortable with them, as I have a couple years of experience, I'd still pick a straight right any day! So get comfortable with your stance, turn your hips over and pick a powerful straight over a jab and you'll be more effective! Good luck with everything!

What do I do when my power hand is in the front . This always confused me cause I know it's not my stance but feel most comfortable should I force myself to do normal stance or adjust to it

@@Tony_Jeffries Just a cheapish heavy bag at home mate. Does the job. Been years since ive done any bag work. Got back on the weights a year ago and got myself fit(ish) then recently decided to get back on the bag. Gives me a hell of a workout. Loving it.
Your videos have been a big help getting me back into the combos and all that.

I’m 6ft-1 with a 74 inch reach. I have close to 4 years of MMA training. With boxing, is it best to stand tall/ flat footed, or spread my long ass legs moving around in random/ unpredictable ways or just be flat footed moving/slipping/striking. Crouched down with my long legs helps but, I donno about boxing, I never sparred with the 12 oz gloves. I prefer 8 oz gloves. I also do no gloves to see if I’m hitting with knuckles, my ring finger n punky knuckles get bloody from throwing hooks. Jabs are no problem, I imagine there’s a head behind the heavy bag n it swings backwards.

lol pro boxer arrogance, Tyson got dropped twice , the second time didn't have the count just a became a wrestler, also cheated by elbowing Frances in the face. Frances distance management was way better than fury he covers large distance when he strikes, the hand fight is what neutralised tyson. also the faint game of Frances. Tyson is know as a clinch bully got countered by the better clincher. biggest problem is ignorance and egos of boxes. other boxers fighting Frances should do their research or they are going to get k'oed
