Yammi, you should swap the wheels and see what the Duke looks like with spokes. I've read a few forums where people are looking for spoked wheels for their Duke 390's and I think you can provide an answer to many of their questions.
The svart is electronically limited fo the first 1000km or 800 miles moreless, after the fisrt service and after the break-in period you get the same performance as the Duke, and since it´s lighter, you could theoretically go faster:)
The husky actually needs a little remedial course work on execution. If anything it should have been an improvement after several years of building the duke 390 but it's not.
I have to completely agree with the ethos of the Husky. I love the idea of a neo-future styled bike for urban exploration. City streets are some of the most gravel-covered, pothole-filled, sketchy curbside places I have ever been. Street bikes, designed for silky-smooth roads and curves, really do feel out of place downtown. But an "off-road" bike wearing an urban suit is perfect. Everyone has a Lambo poster, but the only cars I see rich people in downtown are Suburbans.
Unbolt the shift linkage and raise the shifter by one spline. I could never get to neutral on mine and after adjusting everything feels MUCH better. The linkage marks and the marks on the shaft do not line up and when assembled mine was off mark. My shifter arm was hitting the bracket on the lower side and gouged it a bit, struggled to shift to first when cold, adjusted and solved all my issues.

How could he and Spite forget that the HD logo announces "Motor Cycle?" You mention how narrow the Husqvarna seat is, but that it still absorbs rough terrain. How do you think it would last on a long ride? I've been in Viet Nam for the past two years but still recognized the Dominoes truck at 14:00. While it's not the best quality in the world, I still think it's better than what I'm finding here. Happy trails, guys.
I think the svartpilen vs 390 adventure will be an interesting comparison as well. I’m personally really looking forward to the 390 adventure, huge value for money bike, but man this svartpilen is GORGEOUS and tugs realllllly hard at my heart

I went the other way since it was cheaper out the door new than all the '15-'18 used dukes around me, and the weirdness was pretty cool in person. Still love the duke too, but no ragurts here either!
About to head back to the land of fallen angels, Southern California, from Austin Texas . Will be picking up my first bike, the Svartpilen 401. Thanks boys, greatly appreciated all the awesome content you put out there! I may not want to leave this city but at least I'll be able to lane split with an ocean view on a pretty bike, could be worse.
I would have loved the Husky over the Duke, but I'm 6'3 and the pushed out part on the Husky was rubbing hard on my knees. Went with the Duke, and I can't get enough.
I don't know which post-19 models are made in Austria, but my 2020 Vitpilen 401 (purchased in Spain) was made in Austria (as indicated in its technical documentation as well as by its VIN, which starts with VBK, corresponding to Austria).
You nailed it exactly. I'm a 'returning rider' and the Svartpilen is at the top of my list. I'm Tall, 5'11" so, the height would be no issue. The Duke display would be distracting AF.
Yammie.......look up for ktm duke 390 bs6......here in india we've got a bs6 (euro 5 compliant) update to the ktm duke 390 and its also got a quickshifter as a part of the update and they have also rerouted the exhaust to make exit from below
I don't know why that surprises you they might have different preferences when it comes to bikes but they're not going to rival each other and call each other idiots for riding different bikes.
I appreciate the comparison more so than the clickbait title. It may help to understand those marketing quotes would be vision statements and not mission statements. The differentiation seems a success: I've never been attracted to the Duke and the Svartpilen seems an obvious choice for me. I'd be tempted to swap over the Duke's gauge cluster if the Svartpilen can use it however.
I really really wanted a svartpilen 401, but I could barely find a new one anywhere near me and at $6960 out the door I couldn't do it. Just scored a duke 390 with 2100miles for $3100 that needed a battery but is otherwise great.
I'm looking for just that and will consider the 390 adv...but wow is that an ugly headlight assembly. Not saying I want style over substance, but yikes.
I'm looking at these two bikes as an experience rider with a liter sport bike who needs a city commuter, and the on cyl. engine sounds economic, while the bikes still seem to offer some fun riding to them. I like the 390 Duke because it looks as a Super Duke, yet I like the looks of the "Husky". Hard call, but the video helps and was useful as I'm looking into these bikes!. I'I"ve looked at the 690 Duke and 701 Svartpilen, and think the 390 would be a perfect engine for what I'm looking (again, I have a R1M if I want to go really fast).
Nop!, the neutral issue never disappears, on 201, 401 and even the 250 models, is weird, cus the entire bike feels refined, the exhaust pipe in 2018 models was placed higher but it was too hot at the point of temperature issues, also in other countries the turning lights are more stylish and nicer. Sold mine recently to a more relax highway bike, but sometimes I regret that decision
@@Motoexplorer300L yeah so it’s just an unnecessary added cost to the bike at that point, also a beginner could accidentally have the suspension set wildly incorrect
Speaking as a Calamari (Euro-Squid) these are more progression bikes cause of the tiered licence. So the addition of adjustable suspension can make sense in the Euro market.

Got a svartpilen 401 2020 for my self this week, but the front wheel wobbels a bit and it effects the conforte of the handel bare. Do any one know how to fix this problem?
Honestly I like the Duke 390 way better. Couldn't you just change the tires and make it off road? Or dual purpose? Which type/model of tires would you recommend for that?
Svartpilen is the PERFECT beginners bike. I mean ..that's if you care about aesthetics and are older than 25 or 30. My poor dumb buddy bought a dual sport Honda CRF300l. Hes 53 like me. It has 280 CCs. 80mph max. Looks like a kids bike. I mean ...what was he thinking I have no idea. It's a fun light low power dirt bike/short distance city bike. I'm still flummoxed. I'm def buying a Svartpilen soon.
Husky seem to having the different designed header pipe because of the emission norms in India where it is being produced which is called the bs6 or Bharat stage 6 emissions norm. Even in the new bs6 Duke 390 the exhaust system is different with the pipes being rerouted like how it's in the 401 because of extra catcon. And then again I feel it could also help in reducing the heat that the riders experience.
I like that Husky. It has hooligan potential. My present, semi ADV (NC700X), is good for scaling construction zones but I wish it was lighter. That low pipe begs modifications.
I'm in that "returning rider" category. Had cruisers before, wanting to go naked or semi-sport. Does the 401 have a different transmission than the Duke? That seems to be the one major gripe I hear from people about the KTM 390s. Too bad Husqvarna couldn't have routed the exhaust to the side, and put a decent instrument cluster on it. I actually hate KTM's "phone mounted sideways" instrument look too, but at least you can see it; even if the Husky's was just a TFT in the middle, that would be great.
Hello, me also finally bought a new Svartpilen 401. Overall, I am very excited about it, but I still have noticed one little problem: the “balance” of the motorcycle. - When I ride straight on the road and lift my hands from the handlebars, the motorcycle starts to pull slightly to the right ... Considering that the motorcycle is brand new, from the store, I find it a little unusual that the center of gravity is out of balance. Have any of you had a similar problem? Please for any advice or your experience .. Thank you very much, Jurij
@@MarcoAzzan Tire pressure already checked ... it is ok .. 🤷♂️ next week I have first service (the first 1000 km) .. and they will see what this could be .. Thanks anyway 😊👍
Hey I know I am late to your comment, but are you saying the seat height on the 401 is nuts because it is too high? Or too low? I don't want it if it is higher than the Duke. Thanks!
@@seg316 the Svart 401 has a 32.9" seat height, which is about a half inch lower than a BMW R1250GS, which is a notoriously tall bike. The 790 Duke is 32.5, so right in the same range. A lot of these super naked bikes have high seat heights, so if you're a short rider, it's worth it to at least throw a leg over one at a dealer before making a commitment.

Hi mate .. i want to get one k5m duke 390 but some of the people who already got this bike saying ktm duke 390 got some issues ..like abs failure ..quickshifter does not work properly, overheating issue, unstable rpm on 3rd gears .. could you please make a video regarding these concerns
Most of these issues are due to new BS6 emissions standards. Get a Rapid Bike ECU and the issues go away. As for ABS failure it's just a dying battery, Happened to me. Over heating is fixed but you can use a new cooler cap and use Engine Ice coolent.
I don't think it's a beginner bike per say I think it's just a bike designed to attract... Be it seasoned riders who want a slice of that KTM Duke pie but don't want to be seen as a hooligan but it's got the learning potential for a beginner with a larger engine size for when someone wants to dip their toes in a larger caliber of bike.

I've been in Viet Nam for the past two years but still recognized the Dominoes truck at 14:00. While it's not the best quality in the world, I still think it's better than what I'm finding here.
Happy trails, guys.
Great choice for going camping with your RV. And having the bike to explore what’s around you.
I think the svartpilen vs 390 adventure will be an interesting comparison as well. I’m personally really looking forward to the 390 adventure, huge value for money bike, but man this svartpilen is GORGEOUS and tugs realllllly hard at my heart
I'm on the same boat. Can't decide which one, the husky has that unique futuristic retro look.
I had 390 adventure last year, now I have a svartpilen. The svartpilen is way better and so much more beautiful.. I must say I never offroad the adventure so it was useless for me
My first bike is gonna be the Svart!
Can’t wait 🥳🥳🥳
A crappy road in Austin is a decent road right here in Poland. Try single track my boys, then you'll know what it's like to ride crappy roads in my country :D
So grateful for this vid ❤
Did i just see 1.82 for gas at 16:27? My mind is blown! Current price in 8/9/2022 is 3.49, and that went down from 4.15 per gallon.
A 14 tooth front sprocket on the Svart 401 with a pair of S22 tyres and you have yourself a Duke 390 with a quickshifter and fully adjustable suspension:)
Such a weird looking motorcycle but i kinda like it.
woo you guys got the old models of both the motorcycle, luckily in my country we have the updated ones Euro 5 emissions
euro emissions are too strict
Which country is that?
Ya'll make great videos. The audio clipping is super annoying though. Love the content overall. Thanks for making this comparo.
I literally had a choice of these 2 bikes.. i opted for the duke.. no regrats
I went the other way since it was cheaper out the door new than all the '15-'18 used dukes around me, and the weirdness was pretty cool in person. Still love the duke too, but no ragurts here either!
Whats with the spelling of regrit?
Doug Moreland what’s with the spelling of regret?
@@parkersgarage4216 Imma be honest. I was sleepy and thought it was funny at the time
Doug Moreland np bro, I was over here cracking up myself lol.
Went with the Duke, and I can't get enough.
the 2018-2019 401s had the high exhaust pipe. They were also made in Austria
I don't know which post-19 models are made in Austria, but my 2020 Vitpilen 401 (purchased in Spain) was made in Austria (as indicated in its technical documentation as well as by its VIN, which starts with VBK, corresponding to Austria).
@@BikesAndBatallas parts are made in India now but it’s still assembled in Austria
“Bumpy road” 😂😂😂 that’s like the best road here in Detroit. But I will say that the svartpilen is looking more and more desirable for me here.
Do you know when its coming to the rest of europe?
@@jessekroon6 probably at the end of the year or early next year. It was supposed to be launched after eicma but we all know what happened
Bought a new 401 for my first bike 2 weeks ago!!!
How is it?
@@cyclonus01 it turns heads. The seat height is pretty tall (I'm 5'11), but other than that it's a smooth ride
Were there issues with Spites mic? Just wondering if it's the video or me lol great vid either way

I just saw a stretched busa riding with cruisers, what is going on
It's 2020, and segregation is dead, my dude. Let diversity reign!
Homophobia is dying.
Same corner speed.
I don't know why that surprises you they might have different preferences when it comes to bikes but they're not going to rival each other and call each other idiots for riding different bikes.
Omg I've seen the same thing before
I love the background music from one of my most favorite Tom & Jerry episodes
Where do you live? 7k is a lot...
@@Shketri94 Seattle area.
Again check out 390 adventure for beginner bike with adjustable suspension
Nick
Funny thing, the 2019 model Svart has the 390 exhaust routing
Nop!, the neutral issue never disappears, on 201, 401 and even the 250 models, is weird, cus the entire bike feels refined, the exhaust pipe in 2018 models was placed higher but it was too hot at the point of temperature issues, also in other countries the turning lights are more stylish and nicer. Sold mine recently to a more relax highway bike, but sometimes I regret that decision
6:10 what does adjustable suspension have to do with stalling at a stoplight?
He was saying a beginner is more concerned with stalling then adjustable suspension
@@Motoexplorer300L yeah so it’s just an unnecessary added cost to the bike at that point, also a beginner could accidentally have the suspension set wildly incorrect
Can u do a video on the Honda CBR500R? Is it a nice middle ground between a 300cc and a 600cc?
do a video on Honda CB400 Super four! It’s so popular down here in Asia. Think it’s so good in sub 400 cc bike category.
Speaking as a Calamari (Euro-Squid) these are more progression bikes cause of the tiered licence. So the addition of adjustable suspension can make sense in the Euro market.
2020 MSRP is cheaper than the Duke, $4999. The Husky website has it listed right on the bikes page. 2018-2019 MSRP at $6299.
Svartpilen has since dropped down in price. In Australia it's cheaper than a Duke 390 since no ones buying them
Yummiest, brand new rider here only been on my steed 7 or 8 times, was wondering if I could get an in depth video explaining the timing on rev matching while downshifting can't seem to get the hang of it from just watching videos. Camera angle is always too high.
i know this video is about the bikes, but damn do i love seeing downtown austin in videos. gorgeous bikes in one of the best cities in the US.
my channel has got footage from one of the worst cities in the world if ya interested ;) haha
It would have been nice that while you two fine, gentlemen motorcycle connoisseurs were reviewing the two bikes that you could have done static close ups of the details you were discussing. That being said, your ride review was excellent. I've watched all your vids and love your enthusiasm. (I ride a Honda CB500X 'Urban Adventurer' in Melbourne, Australia) Cheers, Cirenov.
Both these bikes have LED turn signals here in Australia. Do US regulations prevent them?
same here in South Africa mate..
A closer comparison would be the vitpilen and the duke but close enough😂
The only thing I dont like is the all black invisible 401 colour. I like colour on my bikes. But I do like the supermoto style of the 390
This Duke keeps popping up on my feed, might have to get one
Svartpilen is the PERFECT beginners bike. I mean ..that's if you care about aesthetics and are older than 25 or 30. My poor dumb buddy bought a dual sport Honda CRF300l. Hes 53 like me. It has 280 CCs. 80mph max. Looks like a kids bike. I mean ...what was he thinking I have no idea. It's a fun light low power dirt bike/short distance city bike. I'm still flummoxed. I'm def buying a Svartpilen soon.
The husky has tubbed tires. Is that something to avoid when getting a beginner bike?
Husky seem to having the different designed header pipe because of the emission norms in India where it is being produced which is called the bs6 or Bharat stage 6 emissions norm. Even in the new bs6 Duke 390 the exhaust system is different with the pipes being rerouted like how it's in the 401 because of extra catcon. And then again I feel it could also help in reducing the heat that the riders experience.
I like that Husky. It has hooligan potential.
My present, semi ADV (NC700X), is good for scaling construction zones but I wish it was lighter.
That low pipe begs modifications.
How long do you have to drive the KTM duke 390 before it starts overheating?
I drove mine for over 100 miles and it never overheated, this was in about 90 degree weather. It does get very hot but never overheated.
Only pre 2017 Dukes had over heating issues. Bad fan
Thank you very much,
Jurij
Hi, check your tire pression.
@@MarcoAzzan Tire pressure already checked ... it is ok .. 🤷♂️ next week I have first service (the first 1000 km) .. and they will see what this could be ..
Thanks anyway 😊👍
The road you calling "crapy downtown road" is the "good road" in India.
PS: you'll never find a street this free in India.
Love from India
The seat height on the Svart 401 is nuts. BMW R1250GS, standard suspension, seat cushion in "low" position, seat height: 33.5".
@@bradleyland Thank you Brad. I actually think, that for my purposes, I may get a Yamaha MT-03. Also the Yamaha is more readily available to me as there are no Husky dealers in Louisiana. Thanks again!
Hey yammie i love your stuff!!
I need a piece of advise.
I am looking for a first bike, i wanted an ADV.
But somehow i realized i will not going on a trip around the world anytime soon. But even a mrried man with kids can dream haha.
So im looking for a naked. I like the av650 or the cb500f.
Don't know if the 650 will be too mich to handle.
Spit your wisdom and enlighten me. Both bikes look sexy as hell to me
I had the same problem with the neutral in my Duke. So it is not due to any changes Husky made.
Being able to adjust the suspension should not be seen as a feature for expert riders.
It’s providing adaptability for heavy weight bike riders.
I like the duke, but cant afford it.. just watch a lot video about its .. 😔😔😔
Can you swap the exhaust off the duke and put it on the husqvarna?
I wish my 2018 vitpilen had the adjustable suspension 😔
Hi mate .. i want to get one k5m duke 390 but some of the people who already got this bike saying ktm duke 390 got some issues ..like abs failure ..quickshifter does not work properly, overheating issue, unstable rpm on 3rd gears .. could you please make a video regarding these concerns
Most of these issues are due to new BS6 emissions standards. Get a Rapid Bike ECU and the issues go away. As for ABS failure it's just a dying battery, Happened to me. Over heating is fixed but you can use a new cooler cap and use Engine Ice coolent.
I think it says Husqvarna Motorcycles because they are more known for their lawn equipment.
My question is can you put a Duke TFT display on the 401?
For anyone wondering, svartpilen means ”the black arrow” in swedish. Vitpilen, you guessed it, ”the white arrow”.
Would be exciting to see whether they experience any of the engine shut down issues that plagued the other models
How are these bikes for reliability?
would have been nice to have both motorcycles fully in frame of video
Husqvarna was originally a swedish brand, which started to make mc’s 1903. Pilen means arrow and it started with Silverpilen and Guldpilen long time ago.
Husqvarna comes from Hus [Huus] + Kvarn = House + Mill. They made huge success in motocross and enduro with 2-cycle engines, known to be extremely rugged.
