Bought the vitpilen 401 in December as my first proper bike, largely because of you guys. Love it, thank you. To those of you considering one - get one.
The 401 is a great bike period. It's also a fantastic value for the price. I had occasional issues with the quick shifter until I learned that you must keep the throttle very steady when shifting and now it works perfect. If that doesn't work have the dealership program the shift shaft sensor, it's listed to be done when serviced.
Your enthusiastic videos on the Svart 401 convinced me to buy one. Got it 2 months ago and I absoulutely love it! Im an open minded older dude (61) who wanted something quick and nimble to go along with my Kong sized VTX1800 and the 401 fits the bill perfectly. It reminds me of my old buell xb9, but runs much cooler.....is lighter and more nimble and has many more great features. (also a steal at $5600) The 401 is not only a perfect beginner bike, but its also a great second bike for older more experienced riders. More fun than a barrel of monkeys!
Just wanted to chime in, I got the 401 specifically because of this channel as my very first bike! Couldn't have asked for a better package! Thanks yammie
I’ve watched Yammie’s video before on the Svart before I bought mine last year and I knew I made a good choice. Watching this video a year later just reconfirms everything I’ve experienced so far and made me realize I made a great choice!

I bought a svart 401 because of your old video and have clocked over 3k miles. It has been a great first bike, super easy to handle, and very fun to ride. However you get what you pay for, the premium features aren't just free. It feels cheaply built. Starting with 2020 model year they are produced in India and I think it shows. Aftermarket support is weak, the gas tank is super small and the fuel level gauge is always wrong. Overall, still a great beginner bike. Well, this video release is right on time ! Long story short, 2021 was hell so i decided to make something that i wanted for a long time and regained interested in motorcycling with your videos. 6 months later and my licence in the pocket, i have ordered my first motorcycle today and it's ... the svartpilen 701 ! So big thanks to the YN team for the great content and for giving peoples the will to join the ride. It's only the beginning of the journey for me, Greetings From France !
@Live ASMR In France, driving school lends you a bike (in my case a KTM 390) during the sessions. You can buy your bike before but you're not allowed to drive it anyway.
I've owned a svart 401 for a year as of this month, first bike. It's a great first bike, it really let me get better as a rider and learn what types of riding I like, but at this point, it really shows it's limitations of the smaller engine. If you're okay with upgrading after a year or only ride in the city, perfect motorcycle, but I personally wish I tried to start on a 650 class bike.
"upgrading after a year" after the first year you still won't be able to take this bike to its limits. the whole idea of having to "move up" is just wrong. and also these 650cc bikes do have more torque but are also much heavier. I ride a Fireblade and trust me, these light less powerful bikes are so much more fun on the street.
@@user-jt6nw6wm5q yeah, the grass is always greener in the other side. I started with an sv650, great times, still have it and still love the bike. The only thing that a bigger displacement bike offers on road really is overtaking power and a bit of highway confort.
The appeal of the Svartpilen for me is, pure and simple, I read to much Cyberpunk as a kid. :-) Bruce Sterling could have designed the 401, and William Gibson would have thought up the Sondors Metacycle.

Yes! More of that sweet sweet Svartpilen 401 content. I ordered one and I'll admit that your video helped me to make the decision to get it. More Svartpilen 401 videos, please!
I will be getting my first bike very soon, and boy have i looked at sooo many "best beginner bikes" such as the Mt03, Svartpilen 401, Crf and Ninja 400. I've always come back to the svartpilen but was feeling hesitant because most videos were from 1-2 years ago. So it was a relief to see it still holds up even recently. Thank you :)
I literally bought the 2022 and pick it up in a week... My heart skipped a beat when I saw this vid pop up on the feed, but thankfully it's still a confirmed BEAST
I bought a 2020 Svartpilen last week and I can’t believe how much I love that bike. I haven’t been this smitten over a bike in like… never. I’m 6-2, 240 and the bike doesn’t feel tiny when I’m on it. I have an MV Rivale, MT09 and a KLX300SM and I have no desire to get on any of them for now. Until this bike, I mostly rode the KLX. I feel like lightweight, low cc bikes are just more fun.
Love it ! Bought my svartpilen as a first bike thanks to you a year ago. Now I have a deposit on KTM 690 enduro r. Can't wait to get it. I think its a prefect step up
I’m one of the ones who owns this bike because of your video on it way back when lol. It’s still wonderful, thanks for the introduction to it all that time ago.
I own a Svartpilen 401 and I'm never getting rid of it! I have bigger and more powerful bikes but that thing is just so special, a little nugget of joy :)
For those of you thinking about selling your Svartpilen, don’t! Selling is one of my biggest regrets in motorcycles. I got one in 2019 before they were cool. They weren’t selling bikes and I got mine in San Diego for $3,300 new, so like $5K out the door. I made the mistake of riding 20 hours in 2 days round trip from Sacramento to oregon. The thumper was so harsh on my throttle hand I seriously could not feel my arm and hand for days it was so painful. I was so upset that I sold the bike, and now regret it! It’s meant for around town, and it was so good and looked so cool, I would get compliments all the time.
I bought a svart because of that video and i am so happy. Despite the odd loose screws lealing oil, wrong hose leaking coolant, quikshifter and abs failure and not running that one time. I am so happy with my bike, it is so much fun! I learned how to to baby wheelies ñ, jump curbs, offroad shenanigans, city bopping. I would buy it again every time. Sometimes i miss the top end of 600s but because the husqy is so light and easy to park. I can live with it:)
A year ago today-ish I took your advice and purchased a KTM 390 Duke which was your top beginner choice in 2021. I still have and still enjoy that peppy bastard! I was gonna get the Husq but I didn't like how it fit compared to the 390. Thanks Yammie!
🙋🏻 I'm one those buyers lol. Bought the vitpilen 401 last year. I am know on the streets aa the research king. The Husqvarna was the best choice. Loving it. Thanks my guys
My brother definitely bought a Svartpilen based on your video which later encouraged my purchasing of a Vitpilen. Best decision EVER!!!! Thanks guys. 💪🏼💪🏼 KTM/Husqvarna definitely needs to cut you a check.
Went to pull the trigger on a 401 and the dealer had me at $8400 out the door. ZERO negotiating. I can’t bring myself to drop $3k over MSRP. These dealerships are out of control.
I have both of these bikes, plus a Super Tenere, and I've been riding since Noob was an itch in his Daddy's pants! Both the 401 and CRF are more than beginner bikes, tho! These rides don't discriminate! Running errands, hitting the mountains in Boone, NC, or just commuting, they're super fun, economical, simplistic, lightweight and pound for pound the best fun on two wheels. Tie!!!
Writing as a scooter dude, this is 401 is a weekly temptation to step into manual transmission riding. It has to be much better than the 5yr old Grom that I learned on at the MFT course. One of the few things that have saved me from getting this is that no dealership anywhere reasonably near El Paso stocks the 401. Still, it is beautiful and all I need for urban riding.
Also a scooter rider here. Bought a new duke390 in 2020 (same as the 401) but never had the heart to sell my maxi scoot. Not sure if the 401 is also built in India like the ktm, but the quality was definitely lacking. Even though it never failed, I couldn’t get over the cheap feeling of everything. A year later got a new z900rs cafe. A lot better built than the ktm but again I couldn’t let go of my scoot. Another year passed and I’ve realized that I’ll always be a scooter guy 😂. Got me a new ak550 and it is hands down absolutely perfect in every way. So don’t hurry too much getting rid of yours even if you go with the husky 😂
@@thebulgarianguy8461 I feel the same about my Svart, it feels cheaply made. I know starting with 2020 model year manufacturing was moved from Austria to India for the 300s and smaller ktm/husky bikes. I think that has something to do with it.
@@MortimerJones99 I hated the way the levers moved when pushed - just flimsy. I also went a tooth down on my front sprocket and had to remove some plastics around the chain - the screws holding it to the bike were mostly screwed in at various angles. Too bad - the Duke and the 401 are great looking bikes.
Hey there are you talking about El Paso Texas? I managed to get the 401 about a year ago from a company out in Las Cruces N.M. The power center on Telshor Blvd is where I got mine. I love my bike and I too started on a 1976 Honda Passport. Still love my scooter but also loving how easy it was to learn gears on my Husqi.
@@Jessica_Renee I just bought my PCX from that place 2 months ago. Seemed like good people there. And they actually stock things in addition to sport bikes and cruisers.
I took delivery of a new VITpilen 401 yesterday. My previous bike was a Honda CB300R. The Vit feels so much more premium for only a $450 difference in price. The Vit is $5399, the CB $4949.
I have a klx300 and it hangs fine on the highways and twistees but I got smoked by a street bike .I was doing 135 km which is where I top pout and he blew past doing like 200 lol I had a vitpilen last year . It was a bit quicker not by much but I definitely prefer thw dual sport it's way more fun . Considering you can actually hit trails as well
You'd be surprised how dirt capable the 401 is. You can get some really good side cargo racks and it has the tires, torque, and suspension for almost any dirt trail
I owned a svart 410 for a year and a half until recently that i sold it to get a BMW... Man that episode had me thinking all the good times I had with this bike. Kind of uncomfortable for the passenger but a ton of fun for me
YOU GUYS EARNED MY SUBSCRIPTION. I used to ride on dirt when I was a kid… now I’m 37 and looking to get back in the saddle. I think you guys sold me on getting this bike to get my bearings back before I buy a bigger bike. looking at the triumph Bonneville bobber when I get my feet back under me… would hate to drop that bike tho. Thanks for the content
I might get it because 1. I can buy cash, 2. All the similarly powered bikes sound the same so might aswell get something I can do more with, and 3. This is something I can always use even after upgrading down the line.
Vit 401 2021 starter bike, I love it for sure, I'm also six foot six and so far not at all uncomfortable to ride for long period of time, got it specifically for the price and for the high seat height. If you're a really tall rider the small 401 is a great height. I'm now hooked into the bikes, now I want a Triumph Street Scramber 1200 XC.
Hi man, have a question for you. I'm looking to get my first bike and the svartpilen 401 really caught my eye, i'm kinda hesitant because i'm 6'5. Do you think i'll be fine fit wise on the svartpilen? And will the svartpilen be a better fit than the vitpilen because of the riding position?
Okay, I'm writing this prior to watching the Final Thoughts portion of the video. You took the 401 offroad and said that it "can do it," but it was "squirrely" and didn't "glide right over" obstacles as well. What you did NOT mention is that the 401 comes with knobby tires, which your test model does not have, nor did you attempt to adjust the suspension to determine whether the ride COULD be smoother offroad. Part of why one opts for the 401 is how much stock adjustability is present in the bike to begin with. Not taking advantage of what the bike offers is like running a race while doing high knees: Sure you "can do it," but to what end? I'm going to watch the Final Thoughts now, but if neither of these things are addressed, then the comparison was definitely unfair.
I waited for a long time for the 401 but ended up getting the 250 in india It's less powerful (30bhp) but for a broke new doctor the extra milage is much appreciated 😂 Got a SC project slip on and a bunch on mods with the money i saved
@@kleinbottled79 the Svartpilen 250 , it's such a nice begginer bike but i would have liked to buy the 401 Waited aslong as i could then just gave in and bought the 250 No regrets
probably a more appropriate comparison would be the CRF with the 390 adventure a bit longer suspension and with the 19" at the front is more close to the CRF, but still the type "decent at everything, good at nothing"
I am guilty of also buying a Vitpilen 401 2 weeks ago partly due to your video. It’s my first bike and I’ve only logged 100 miles so far. As a brand new rider I couldn’t be happier with it. I’m 5’5” with a 30 inch inseam and was cared of the seat height at first but after the msf course and riding for a bit I have had no issues thus far.
The 401 looks the goods, however the reliability of that engine is questionable. The crf needs some upgrades (extra spring in front, handle bars, pegs, foot levers, full exhaust, bash plate and luggage rack) but I'd choose that everyday over the former.
I just purchased a 401, enjoying it so far. What reliability issues do the engines have? Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I did some research before my purchase but didn’t come across negative reviews regarding the engine. would love the extra input. Thanks in advance
Lol I bought this bike bcuz of that video. It’s my first bike and it really is something special. Thanks for feeding us baby squids with so much info Yammie
I had the chance to rent a Svartpilen 401 a few months ago here in Tokyo (also thanks to "that 650K video") and I can say that I had a blast (even Yammie shared the Instagram story where I mentioned him stating that naked bikes are better lol). The engine has enough power to cruise on highways (specially since in Japan the max speed is 100Kph -62mph- and 120 -74.5- only when overtaking), the breaks and suspensions are top. The only flaws I could find is that the seat is too stiff (which is fixable), since it's a single cyl engine it vibrates quite a lot (duh) and finding neutral was a real pain in the a$$. I had to try easily like an average 5-6 times every red light to find it, so sometimes I just gave in and kept grabbing the clutch lol. Apart of that is an excellent motorcycle. If I didn't buy one it's because here cost like 6400$ MSRP and for the type of ride that I want to do a Ninja 400 fits me better (and I will change it for an MT07 or 09 in a year or so). But living in the US? This is a no-brainer. I'm 5'8" (173cm) tall and I could almost flat foot it. Light as a feather, easy to handle and with a pleasant punch in the lower revs. Simply perfect for commuting and aesthetically stunning. I rode with a friend in a Vitpilen 401 and we catched all the attention from the pedestrians. In fact, in one of the red lights that I couldn't find neutral I went a bit berserker because I almost stalled the bike and rev'd it out and accidentally got out of there in one wheel lol. Just get the bike, dudes, it's TONS of fun! xD
I bought a 21 Svartpilen 401 after watching your video. I learned to ride putting 4k miles on it during a chilly NC winter. I ended up selling my beloved Svart 2 weeks ago and bought a brand new MT07 so I could commute better on the highways/70mph+ The Svart turned heads everywhere. Everyone said "what is that thing". I'm super glad I learned on the Svart, absolutely loved the bike!
I just bought a husqvarna 701 sm...love the brand I do have my gripes with the 373 ktm engine though in my adv390 it vibrates the hell out of the handlebars and yeah the quickshifter on both bikes can be finicky at full throttle
Was going to be riding a 401 this weekend from Twisted road (only one of 4 bikes available in this huge city), but couldn't because the boyfriend broke parts (including the headlight) while playing with it. Hopefully will try again once it's fixed.
Aloha Yammie, the Husky was one of the bikes I was considering to get back into biking until I started reading about the electrical & neutral issues. The videos I've watched were older, so I'm trying to find out if those issues/concerns have been resolved. Thanks & Take Care

Haven't been fixed. Same engine as the Duke 390, same electrical issues. Look up KTM = Keine Tausand Meters
beenneyeing this bike as well and still saving some money to get one.. but the longer it takes, the more issues ive been reading about it.. they say that the engine itself is reliable but the electronics sucks
@Scott Daunheimer idk about the dual sport version, but the dirt bike CRf450 is NOT a beginner bike. For once, it's tall as hell and not friendly to people under like, 5'10. Second, they weigh nothing but make stout torque and will pick themselves off the ground in 3rd.
I have a single carb on my 07’ Husky dual sport and have had no problems with it….Running non-ethanol in carbureted bikes seems to reduce a lot of problems.
My KTM Dealer has got the '23 model for 4500€. I'm very tempted to get one. The 2024 model is priced at 6800€. I also have the Grandgrandfather of the CRF 300L, a Honda XL250R modelyear 85. That will hopefully be roadworthy again soon. My current small bike is a CBR 300R, wich is quite rare in Germany.
Yo estoy igual . Creo que voy a comprar el nuevo . El motor está más refinado , es más grande y con pantalla tft , esto me importa menos , pero se agradece .
Ok… I’m 54 years old but I identify as a 24 year old. Needless to say I’m a Gen X-er who thinks he’s way more cool that he actually is. I’ve owned, ridden and raced a plethora of dirt bikes, dual sports and road bikes. (Disclaimer: never road raced). I’m no Valentino Rossi but im also not a “beginner.” Would I be happy with the 401 or should I look at the 701? I would be mostly riding back roads some dirt roads and occasional trips to the grocery store. Any input from anyone in a similar situation would be sweet. Thanks!

Same for me! I love the cb650r but this 401 is just perfect for me
i bought my Svart 1.5 years ago because of you Yammie i go to hard trails with him and advencher , he is my every day vehicle and im loving it!
Buying a 2019 Vitpilen 401 is the best financial decision I’ve ever made.
Did you heard about the 1301?
@@CBoss777 allegedly. But a Vitpilen based on the Super Duke would be god tier.
i did the same for svartpilen, i am afraid to change it for anythink else, its reach 175 km video in my youtube
Haha same. well said sir
Same here friend
Love it ! Bought my svartpilen as a first bike thanks to you a year ago. Now I have a deposit on KTM 690 enduro r. Can't wait to get it. I think its a prefect step up
The fact that you posted this after I binged your other videos on the same bike, just increased the odds of me going broke by 100%
Your channel is LITERALLY the only reason I knew Husqvarna made anything other than chainsaws. I love the look of that bike
As someone who purchased a Svart because of you guys I was nervous before watching, but validated after.
Bought this bike last week for my birthday. All thanks to you guys, thank you!
I got myself the vitpilen 401 this year and i am more then happy with, i just love how it feels while riding
Sounds like a piece of crap.
Can confirm, Husky owes Yammie a commission :D Got mine based off of their recommendation.
More svart content! Do a whole series for all of the people that bought one thanks to your video
Local dealer has last year's model for $3999. Sign me up
God, I've become a Yammie Noob-addict. Can't stop watching these videos. Helps me a ton picking my FIRST mc :D
Tie!!!
After a lot of research, and likely also watching that same 600k video, I ended up with a Vitpilen myself, and couldn't be happier with it.
Considering you can actually hit trails as well
iv never owned a bike before, im picking up a brand new 401 in 1 week thanks to your videos
I own a Rebel 1100 and I want my next bike to be the Husqvarna Svartpillen 401. It's such a striking bike
Depends what you're looking for in a motorcycle. I would pick a dual sport because I like to camp and it can do that great.
Kind of uncomfortable for the passenger but a ton of fun for me
I just got my svart 2020 last week. And yeah your video played a part in my decision. I love it as my first bike
Got my Svart as first bike in december..couldn’t de happier. Thanks for the recommendation
Mark my words papa yam, I will buy this as my first bike and it’s because of your vids on it, that’s when I fist saw this beautiful motorcycle
@@aqwsantv Too bad no one has answered you. I am 186cm and I have same dilema.
Just bought a 2022 Svartpilen because of you yam!
I honestly would like to see a KTM 390 Adventure in a comparison like this as an almost middle ground between these two.
true, the main down side in my opinion is the price jump with KTM vs the Husky
They need to build a dual sport frame around that 401 engine and destroy the dual sport market competition
I waited for a long time for the 401 but ended up getting the 250 in india
It's less powerful (30bhp) but for a broke new doctor the extra milage is much appreciated 😂
Got a SC project slip on and a bunch on mods with the money i saved
it's comming, but only after 4th generation ktm took over the market
Which 250?
@@kleinbottled79 the Svartpilen 250 , it's such a nice begginer bike but i would have liked to buy the 401
Waited aslong as i could then just gave in and bought the 250
No regrets
@@suvrosarkar4419 Oh very cool. We don't get the 250 version here in the US. Ride safe!
@@silver_YTfps as they say
It's more fun to ride a small bike fast rather then a big bike slow
probably a more appropriate comparison would be the CRF with the 390 adventure
a bit longer suspension and with the 19" at the front is more close to the CRF, but still the type "decent at everything, good at nothing"
My girlfriend bought a Husky this past fall, because of you guys 🤙
Picked up a Vitpilen 401 at the end of April. Best decision I've ever made.
I bought a 2021 Svartpipen because of you so I hope so! (Commented prior to watching video).
PS I love mine, thanks so much for the recommendation 😊
Picked mine up last November, thanks entirely to this channel and your reviews. It's no turbo 'busa, but it'll do...
Just got my 401 because of you guys
I actually bought this bike last year bc of your video I never knew it existed till then
I also bought the husky because of that video .. got it last month and it’s amazing
I bought the Svarty because of that video. I love it.
@@TheEthanofnazareth He's spewing shit outta his ass.
Yeah what about the longer term reliability and maintenance costs for both bikes? I imagine the Honda is the best choice there.
Lol I bought this bike bcuz of that video. It’s my first bike and it really is something special. Thanks for feeding us baby squids with so much info Yammie
I have a husqy 401 and it's the best commuter bike ever!!! Super comfortable
Been looking into getting a Svart here in Illinois. Kinda hard to find them around here. The ones I found are getting taxed! Priced at $6k
Gotta say yammie is linus of motorcycle 🤣
I bought the vitpilen401 three days ago because of your video
Dude I’ve been watching you for a year or so now and it never hit me until now that you’re on lime creek 😂😂, can’t wait to run into you there!
I just bought a husqvarna 701 sm...love the brand
I do have my gripes with the 373 ktm engine though in my adv390 it vibrates the hell out of the handlebars and yeah the quickshifter on both bikes can be finicky at full throttle
Was going to be riding a 401 this weekend from Twisted road (only one of 4 bikes available in this huge city), but couldn't because the boyfriend broke parts (including the headlight) while playing with it. Hopefully will try again once it's fixed.
Hard to beat it. I don't like the ergonomics but that's an easy enough fix, everything else is pretty solid for a bike that size!
I bought a vitpilen recently and I love it so much ,
That husqvarna looks sooo good.... i prefer the older tank that didnt say 401, and had “husqvarna” there, but still, so sick looking.
Not a newbie. I look at it like a slightly larger Grom. Just seems like a pile of fun.
owner of a 401 also because of you ❤
Aloha Yammie, the Husky was one of the bikes I was considering to get back into biking until I started reading about the electrical & neutral issues. The videos I've watched were older, so I'm trying to find out if those issues/concerns have been resolved. Thanks & Take Care
Haven't been fixed. Same engine as the Duke 390, same electrical issues. Look up KTM = Keine Tausand Meters
@ Thanks so much for the feedback. Not what I wanted to hear but needed to know! Take Care 🤙🏾
not reliable
beenneyeing this bike as well and still saving some money to get one.. but the longer it takes, the more issues ive been reading about it.. they say that the engine itself is reliable but the electronics sucks
I like this bike was looking at them but managed to pick up a 2011 moto guzzi v7 classic for my first bike and I'm in love
I have a single carb on my 07’ Husky dual sport and have had no problems with it….Running non-ethanol in carbureted bikes seems to reduce a lot of problems.
I didn't buy one because of your videos but it did help justify my decision
My KTM Dealer has got the '23 model for 4500€. I'm very tempted to get one. The 2024 model is priced at 6800€. I also have the Grandgrandfather of the CRF 300L, a Honda XL250R modelyear 85. That will hopefully be roadworthy again soon. My current small bike is a CBR 300R, wich is quite rare in Germany.
Yo estoy igual . Creo que voy a comprar el nuevo . El motor está más refinado , es más grande y con pantalla tft , esto me importa menos , pero se agradece .
Awesome two of my favorite bikes together.
Thanks!
I wanted one of these so bad until I took the msf. I'm a 6'5 longboi with a 500r now ; )
I bought one last year and put a bunch of upgrades on it right after the break in period. I now have 4 bikes. And don’t ride the svartpilen anymore. Selling it in Indianapolis soon.
