  • The idea if your olympus om1 get stuck shutter release is to reposition the idle gear, lift it up and put it again in the right position, hope this can be useful, happy watching 🌝

    This is definitely a chronic problem of OM-1
    Thanks for showing how to fix this

    One of the problems with that OM-1 is that it has a "soft release button". Using that causes bent levers in the bottom of the camera. The spring that sits under the gear has to be hooked INSIDE the gear, held in place with tweezers as you drop it back on the post. Servicing OM for 45 years. This mostly happens in 2S and up. With the used market being what it is (renamed "Tampered market" ) most of the OM-1s I see with bad gears are caused by tampering (people buying screwdrivers thinking that makes them a tech.).

    Just got a OM1 in pretty bad cosmetic shape in an auction. Shutter was firing, but when I tried the self timer, the shutter would not fire and film advance was stuck. This video saved me ! And a lot of frustration ! Thanks a ton !

    Helpful video. One thing to mention is that the spring catches in a little hole underneath the cog/gear. When you put the cog/gear back onto the camera, you need to turn it to tension the spring before engaging it with the other cogs/gears in its final position..

      Thank God I decided to read the comments. Been trying to figure out why the issue kept repeating. Turns out, I need to adjust the spring to catch the tiny latch on that cog/gear. Thanks so much! Big help. ❤️

      Keeps repeating for me as well on my OM-2 spot/program. I will try taking it apart and tensioning the spring. For the fourth time.

    Good Job! Not many people do this on very old camera. Looks you are old camera enthusiats. Many antiques in the table. Keep up the good work, looking for your other video :)

    You need to put more tension on the spring that sits inside the wheel you removed. If you don't do this, the shutter will taper at 1/1000 and maybe 1/500 as well. The mirror loading lever return spring looked bent too.

      Hi Ian, I am trying to fix this exact problem now and finding the same thing. Can you describe/link how to do this?

    • @ianhand5006
      @ianhand5006 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kazaroth Hi, fit the spring to the wheel, locate the spring and wheel assembly into the camera , lift the wheel enough to unmesh it with the other wheels and then rotate it clockwise and lower it when it is in the correct position. You should feel the spring tension increasing as you rotate the wheel.

      @@ianhand5006 will try that, thank you! So about half to one turn is the right amount?

    Thank you for the video! Can you do this with film still in the camera?

      your welcome, yes you can but i think its better when theres no film inside because you have to wind the lever to make sure the camera work again

      If you do, any film outside the cassette will be light struck.

    To all Olympus OM users; please do not use a soft release button on these cameras. They don't need them and they do more ha6ghan good!

      Es ist nicht richtig montiert, das Zahnrad soll sofort zurückdrehen ,beim Aufzug, nicht erst nach der Auslösung, das ist falsch !!
