    To make sure this works remember to connect the spring to the the underside of the idler gear first and then connect the long hook part as shown in the video. That tension is key to fixing the shutter issue.

    Thank you, this was incredibly helpful! I managed to get my Olympus working even though I wasn’t able to take out the remove the screw from idler gear. I just popped the bottom open and perhaps I loosened the screw on the idler gear just enough to get it working again!

    I’m brand new to cameras n the Olympus om1 is the first camera I’ve ever bought. My problem I’m having is that it will advance but it doesn’t actually advance the film. Therefore the film isn’t being loaded into the camera

    • @pablodiazphotography
      @pablodiazphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CD Kickz Hi CD, welcome to FILM cameras! I’m not a service professional on film cameras but love trying to find solutions to problems with film cameras. Question, without any film in the camera and the back door open to the OM1, when you move the advance lever, does the film spool on the right of the camera turn at all?

  • @papaya1251

    This is so great, thanks for posting! What if i'm having an issue where every couple of photos, I take a photo and the shutter stays open, despite the shutter speed being not set to "B" or long exposure? This happened to me with a shot i took at 1/125 shutter speed and 8 aperture. Why would the camera override and do this, unless something was sticking mechanically? I also just discovered that there is already a roll of film inside the camera so I might waste another couple of analog shots before I go in there and tinker when the camera is empty. Unless, do you have a fix maybe on the outside of the camera, maybe I'm using the levers/knobs in the wrong way? I don't know what some of these knobs actually do.

    • @pablodiazphotography

      I wish I had a fix for you. I have not encountered this problem after i tinkered with the bottom of the camera but these old cameras can be finicky. This video might help. It’s not my video but worth a look: th-cam.com/video/ScX8Q4cJxg4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eUTbIm7MTKaGvTVu

    Great video. I have an OM1 that when I advance the film and let go of the level it doesn’t return to it’s starting / original position . It tries to creeps to it’s original position. It kind of feels like there’s gunk…. Any idea ?

    • @pablodiazphotography
      @pablodiazphotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a great question. Most film cameras are old and like you said, it may need some cleaning and some lubricant oil to keep all the gears functioning properly. I would seek out some cleaning videos on how to apply such a lubricant or send it to a professional for a tune-up. I’m certainly not a pro on fixing film cameras and would be very careful and diligent if you do it yourself. Good luck my friend, I hope it all works out!

      Hi Oscar, I have never really used the light meter in camera because the battery has died so quick on me, so I just use external methods to gauge the right settings for the shot. You may have to send the camera to a specialist. Sorry I don’t have a specific and helpful answer for you.

    Darn! I popped off the ilder gear, but the lever is still stuck.. It looks like it's coming from the lever with the two notches. Any chance you know how to fix that?

    • @pablodiazphotography
      @pablodiazphotography  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So sorry to hear that it’s still not working, perhaps you might want to use some type of lubrication on some of the pieces down near the gear area and gently move and/or rotate the pieces to see if it unlocks them a bit. If you do use some type of lubrication, I would, what would be appropriate for a film camera of this type. I wish you lots of luck and hope you get working.

    How about any other reason that the Lever is still blocked?
    I checked the Spring, it is in good shape but still cannot unblock the Lever.
    From what I heard, the person armed the Lever of a OM-2, press the Shutter Release but kept the Lever in "armed position", the result is that the Lever is blocked.
    It's there a way to fix it?

    • @pablodiazphotography
      @pablodiazphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing I can think of if the spring is good, that one or all of the gears are locked up and may need to be removed, cleaned up and replaced and/or put a light (tiny) bit of grease/oil to loosen up the gears. Please do some research on the proper type of oil. Hope this helps.

    • @pablodiazphotography
      @pablodiazphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniel, remove the lens and ensure the shutter curtain is positioned properly, they tend to malfunction once in a while. Also you may want to remove all the gears and levers on the bottom and grease it up (please research what grease/oil works best). I have not taking the top assembly apart so I’m not sure if that would be of any help to you. Hope you get it worked out and if all else fails you can always send it in to get fixed, which is a little pricey but worth fixing this camera if it’s in good shape.
